Frank Turner and his merry band, the Sleeping Souls, stopped by Conan last night, and performed their song "I Still Believe." The song appears on Turner's latest album, last year's England Keep My Bones .

I am aware that he is popular in England too - I suppose I just find it strange that having lived in a number of English cities for a number of years, and having seen so many people EXACTLY like this guy, same quality, that other English people wouldn't be a little "not again!" in their reaction to it. I appreciate he must be doing something that I'm missing... any other English folks feel the same?
(p.s. punk rock is a lovely, huggable community of eccentric free spirits where disagreement and dialog thrive - no need to go around calling each other "idiot" willy-nilly. Come here, have a hug. That's it. all better now).

You can have a hug from me, we're all friends here. But seriously, I would actually be quite interested if you could show me a single band "EXACTLY" like Frank. Is he doing something that your missing? I honestly think he is the greatest lyric writer if not the greatest songwriter of our time. And dammit he's got work ethic. I've searched deep into the folk punk and British folk genres and to be honest I find very few I like even a little bit. Thanks, and have a nice day.

Frank has worked extremely hard to get where he is. That said, he enjoyed contacts from his Million Dead days, hence why I heard him on Radio 1 a couple of weeks before seeing him play above a pub.

Really?....having seen Frank play solo and the show in Denver being the first time ive seen him with his full band, i can definitely say he's better as a solo artist. Don't get me wrong, on record it sounds great with the band but live it was verging on cringe-worthy. That bassit was a nob too. Just saying.

Well, not long ago many of plenty of his songs had political messaging.. despite the folk aspect, his writing is somewhat punk.. and let's be reasonable.

Despite what people like to joke (or not) about here the punk community is actually pretty open to different genres. If it weren't the whole acoustic thing wouldn't be as popular as it is.

i like defiance ohio and mischief brew. acoustic in punk has its place. i dont find this to be very 'punk' though. its not aggressive in any way. the guy reminds me of john mayer in so many different ways.

Shameless self promotion. I interviewed Frank Turner in Albuquerque earlier this year for my podcast/radio show. It was a fantastic episode and I'm pretty stoked that he has become the largest personality I have had on the show, so far. He complained of having massive Jet Lag, and I thought he was kind of a dick. I ran into him in Denver the other night and he remembered me, thanked me for the interview and bought me a shot.
