Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Post-rockers Godspeed You! Black Emperor have announced a new album, ALLELUJAH! DON'T BEND! ASCEND!, their first in a decade. The album is set to be released on October 16, 2012 via Constellation Records, though allegedly the band is currently selling copies on tour. The album contains a mere four songs, but don't let that fool you; two of the tracks clock in at 20 minutes.

I like the way their stuff was used in the soundtrack to 28 Days Later, but yes, aside from that, I would need visuals and pot to stand something for this long...

Y'all are fucking crazy! What are you, 5 years old? Give 'em another shot, you may actually find them to be a nice respite from listening to all those NOFX albums and snorting pixy stix.

I noticed a bunch of my friends having a conniption fit over this news on Facebook this morning. I had no idea this was such a huge deal. I own two of their albums and pop them on from time to time, but is the news THAT major?

The news kind of came out of nowhere since they had this album for sale at a show in Boston last night and didn't announce it at all.

I'd say it's pretty major news. They're an incredibly influential band in their respective genre, it's their first release since reforming after a 7 year hiatus, and they just up and started selling it at their merch table last night.

20 cool and good minutes are 20 cool and good minutes, no matter if it's one song or 20. Either way, GY!BE's long songs doesn't really sound like "one song", but a series of songs deftly going into each other. Stoked for this.
