I've never listened to this band, or followed them in any way other than reading comments on here - so why the disdain for them? Are they overly aggressive in their religious stance? Is their music really that bad? I'm just curious what drives the dislike for them.

In all honesty, I've even defended them before because they aren't the WORST band. However, their music is annoying and I won't miss them at all. Also, they look like they smell...And I know they have enough money to not look smelly. That's annoying.

Well, there's plenty of bands with awful pictures, so I wasn't trying to judge a book by it's cover. Just wanted the scoop on why they suck, and it's the hair - I got it now...

I've defended them too. Some of their material sucks, well a lot of it does. But there was a while there in their later period where they were the best band out there at doing the "heavily influenced by botch" but trying something new route. I really liked Define The Great Line, the two albums they put out after that were decent, the last one better than the one before.

Just go to the first Youtube search result for "underoath" and you'll understand. I hadn't even heard of this band until they broke up and now I know why. (The disturbing thing is that youtube video I watched has millions of views).
