Billboard has posted a video of The Gaslight Anthem covering "The House of the Rising Sun," made famous in 1964 by The Animals.

I like it a HELL of a lot more than their cover of "Skinny Love". Brian's voice works really well with this.

Gaslight is still great and I will defend them to the grave. It's just that this is a boring cover of a boring song that a billion other fucking bands have covered a billion times already.

Do you think Handwritten was that good? Or American Slang? I thought they were OK but not a perfect record like over at Absolute Punk. That review is an outrage.
II felt there was a backlash to Off With Their Heads and the vocals on In Desolation which I didn't get at all.

Point is the Gaslight Anthem have a lot of people championing their band. Not sure there is some huge backlash. I'm sure Handwritten will be the #1 record on the Punknews Reader poll.

I thought both, while drop-offs from the previous records, were still very solid and had some great songs.

The new E.P. though.....I don't like it at all so far. But I'm not going to just start flaming them because I don't like 3 songs, or because it's suddenly the thing to do.

I'd say Mixtapes but there are already a few very vocal commentors here that hate them.

If a punk band is widely hated around here I've come to learn that is probably a good thing. This community is whiny and fickle and overall shitty.

It said 'made famous by...' not 'original'. The Animals version is the one I hear when this song is mentioned.

original is Dave Van Ronk and he probably took it from somewhere, "made popular" by Animals for sure
