The Lawrence Arms working on new music

The Lawrence Arms Brendan Kelly recently revealed on his twitter that the group practiced 2 new songs for the first time in nearly 4 years.

[The Lawrence Arms] just practiced 2 new tunes for the first time in almost four years. [Chris McCaughan's song] is rockin, Neil Hennessy brings [the] thunder and my song is dumb.

The Lawrence Arms last released the live DVD An Evening of Extraordinary Circumstance in 2012.

They also demoed today, if that helps at all. Plus, we know Brendan has two songs at the very least.

It kinda does, but demos can always be shelved for a long time.

When they get into a studio and start doing proper cuts, then I'll be doing a happy dance.

I have faith that from this point on they're only going to pick up steam. Unless Brendan's kids do something to really take away even more of his time or something.

Brendan has a real "grown up" job now apparently in an office. So who knows what will happen with TLA actually picking up steam. Unless he quits, or can find time to tour, I don't see them doing getting back to doing a ton of stuff. I will be stoked on new music though.

good news. btw, an Evening of Extraordinary Circumstance may be the best music DVD I've ever seen!

Also, they'd better be playing sideshows when they're in Australia for Soundwave.

i would guess no. i think there is some sort of contractual stuff where they can only play side shows if they are put on by soundwave. and soundwave are a bunch of dicks... so... yeh... i'd say no.

I have to say that I'm more looking forward to new Sundowner material. Chris fell a little short last time in my opinion with Waves (though the first record was a hell of a thing to top), so here's hoping he steps it up a bit. I think he will.

i agree with all of this. is new sundowner music in the works? did i miss a very important update somewhere? four one five two is my favorite album in the world. the other, not so much.

generally so long as the festival is sold out in a city then the band can play their own shows in that city. fuck this band but hopefully the vandals have their own shows fingers crossed xx

I check his twitter from time to time (@sundownermusic), though I'm not on twitter myself. He is vague about when, but I think the new record is written, if not recorded already. Read that he is having a new song on a split soon too. Toby would know this stuff better.

He lives in Portland (I met him at a recent Hot Water Music show), and the person above is right--his twitter stated that a 3rd Sundowner record was in the works or recorded or planned to be released at some point.

The Lawrence Arms went silent at the absolutely most interesting point in their career. Oh Calcutta and Buttsweat and Tears were the best shit they ever did... I hate it when bands get so fucking interesting and then stop. The Loved Ones did the same thing, their first EP was as good as it got until Distractions, which I thought topped that, and then.. bleeeuughhhhh

Oh! Calcutta! and Greatest Story Ever Told might tie for me, because they're both so amazing in very, very different ways. The Chris song on Buttsweat and Tears, though. Hoo boy, it's ball-blastingly awesome.

It's better than putting out some amazing records like Oh! Calcutta! and Greatest Story (the best, in my opinion) and then releasing some lame attempt at topping either, ya know.

You're right about the loved ones, but Dave Hause did recently mention something about the band at a recent show. Who knows.. Dave's solo stuff is good but The Loved Ones are one of my favorite bands. Keep Your Heart was damn near perfect.

Greatest Story is my favorite, but with their output, there is so little distance between rankings, I can't fault you ;)

Greatest Story/Apathy/Cocktails/Oh! Calcutta!/Ghost Stories/Guided Tour - can't rank Buttsweat since I haven't heard it more than a few times. Need to fix that.

With all that said, every album is phenomenal. I just wish Guided Tour and Ghost Stories had better sound quality.
