forgetters have announced east coast tour dates for January. The band recently released their self-titled full-length.

So what is the deal with this album? I couldn't make heads or tails of how it sounded from the review here and I have a loaner computer from work while mine is being updated by IT (how long does that really need to take anyway) and I can't put Spotify on this one. Is it more like Jets To Brazil or Jawbreaker? What era of said band is it more like (Blake really didn't write the same record twice)? I hope not like later day Jets.

It's a healthy mix. There's a couple songs with keyboards but the whole feel of it is if Bivouac era Jawbreaker made the first Jets record.

Does that make sense? It does to me. Minus the first track and one cringeworthy lyric, I fucking love it.

Well the first track is just a bust to me but 'Lie Artist' has "I've got 5 bucks, wait, no I don't".
Every time I hear it, my brain tries to pull the lever for the ejector seat.

Are you serious? I thought that line and definitely the delivery of it was ace.

I'm warming up to Strike, but it's not what I expected at all.. If I'm telling people to listen to this shit though, I actively tell them to skip the opener because it might put them off.

Turn Away and In America get a meh reaction from me right now - and Seconds, to a lesser extent - but aside from that I'm finding the album pretty appealing the whole way through.

Honestly, I expected you to say the cringeworthy line was "Ribbonhead.. you know you're my CHAMPION".

Bivouac meets the first Jets album is kind of a good comparison though; my brain never really made that connection, but hearing it makes perfect sense. The whole album sounds more realised and less sparse than the 45, but definitely noisier and less melodic.

Oh yeah, dead serious. I hate the line.

Ribbonhead is straight from a book about a robot. No qualms there. Love that song.

Seconds is a cover so I make no beef with that one either.

That one line aside, Ribbonhead is fucking great. Definitely one of my favourites, up there with Hoop and Swan and Lie Artist.

More importantly though.. Where can I read more about this Ribbonhead character? What book was he in? I can't figure out what to search for on Google.

Apparently a short story by Donald Barthelme. He's got a shit ton of short stories and I'm not exactly sure which it is.

My impression of it after listening was that it's kinda what Jawbreaker might sound like now if they had kept going all this time.

I guess I kind of disagree with what others have said in the sense I think it sounds like later JTB, especially Perfecting Loneliness, except actually good. It does rock a whole lot harder at spots. I think it's pretty great and I was REALLY disappointed with Perfecting Loneliness. I guess I think it is what PF could have been had it been really good instead of a mostly cringe worthy mess.

I feel your pain.

Last time they hit the UK in their 2011 tour, a buddy and I were totally geared up to travel south to see the Leeds show. Then my final year exams got scheduled at university and I got tests the day before and the day after. I'm still holding out hope they'll stick around long enough to hit the UK again after this album release.
