Bad Brains launch hot sauce

Not content to let The Offspring's Dexter Holland dominate the punk-turned-hot-sauce-mogul market, the legendary Bad Brains have launched their own "hardcore hot sauce." They've named the sauce Fire Burn Babylon and promise:

…a punky reggae party in every bottle. Dr.Know and Darryl Jenifer have combined the perfect combination of heat and sweet that will surely start a mosh pit in your mouth, we don't call it "Hardcore for nothing", so don't be shy, give it try, it's guaranteed to Rock for Light!.

The nine-dollar sauce comes in a bottle with artwork by Shepard Fairy and you can find it here. The band just released Into the Future in 2012.

Agreed, Gringo Bandito is one of my favorite hot sauces ever. I buy several bottles at a time; I'll probably try this Bad Brains one for the hell of it.

What's up with vanity hot sauces? Nobody I know ever buys any, but then again where I'm from it might disgraceful to do so. Anybody else buy shit like this? I mean, there are so many people entering the market that it has got to be profitable. Is this white people's safe "in" into different cuisines?

People around here don't use hot sauce. They eat chiles, salsas, fresh chile peppers, dried chile peppers, fresh not pickled jalapenos, etc.

Depending on what he means by hot sauce, I can think of tons of places he might live. I've seen and experienced plenty of hate from people of heat-loving cultures for vinegar-based swill like tabasco/Cholula/sriracha/etc. And I can definitely sympathize. I have mason jars full of vinegar-free chile sauce I make in huge batches because the gringo stuff is weak and watery and flavorless. I only use "hot sauce," from ghost peppers or habanero mash, when I need a quick and easy way to add tons of long-burning heat to something.

Oh likewise, I'm not saying ALL legit places are like that like the OP is, but all the best non-fly-by-night taquerias in my experience have their own sauces and they are NOT vinegar-based.

I do agree with that. High end places, and the real hole in the wall, "gramma cooks most of the shit," spots usually have great, homemade salsas and fresh veggies, etc. I think your average spot probably goes through more tapatio than an arena goes through Bud Light after a Godsmack concert.

I have tons of them. I love hot food and I guarantee you that some of these hot sauces can get food spicier than any peppers or whatever you can get at the grocery store.

I also love cooking with peppers but if I just want to turn up the searing, painful heat on a spaghetti sauce or something then I bust out some of my weird hot sauces that I've accumulated and just start dumping them in

First ingredient is papaya...I'm not going to spend that kind of money on a hot sauce that doesn't have peppers as it's first ingredient. Too tame otherwise. Fruity hot sauces get 5-6 dollars tops.

The Wahoo's down the street from my work carries Dexter's "Gringo Bandito" hot sauce. I tried it & thought it was pretty good, though I'm no connoseur (I hardly ever use hot sauce at all).
