The Casualties have announced a headlining tour with support from Goatwhore and Havok. It kicks off in March. They released Resistance last year.

The only thing stranger (and more likely to be poorly received) than Goatwhore and Havok opening for the Casualties is Goatwhore and Havoc (from Mobb Deep) opening for the Casualties. While I'm sure it's the former, I wish it were the latter.

Yeah, I agree that it is an incredibly generic name that sounds like the band just randomly combined two words prominent in satanic imagery. "Whores! and Goats! We'll be WhoreGoat... no, wait, GoatWhore!"

Still, perhaps I am being small minded. The name could stand up to multiple interpretations...

Is a goatwhore a goat that sells itself for sex? Perhaps the name goatwhore is a reference to baphomet saying that baphomet whores out his true beliefs just to get followers, much in the way bands whore out their own image, suggesting that heavy metal bands use satanic imagery as a marketing tool and not as a true belief. Why is there no space between "goat" and "Whore"? Are they saying that they are one in the same, so to sell yourself to the devil is the same as whoring yourself out. Is that a good or a bad thing even?

Really though, every time I hear this band's name, I imagine a goat in fishnets, a skirt, lipstick and earrings and a bunch of redneck metal dudes that are far too bored, if you catch my drift.

I think the name was chosen (after much deliberation and meticulous planning, clearly) as commentary on the way goats are treated by society. They're exploited for their dairy goods and loins before reaching an age (if they're lucky) where they are no longer profitable, and so they are discarded and cast out, much like the stereotypical image of a "whore". To that end, they are indeed one in the same, suffering the same hard luck life and unfortunate fate. Then again, maybe it's just because it's br00tal as fuck. Either way, I'm hooked.

In all honesty, I would totally get if this was a joke name. I briefly founded and played in an anti-tiny people grind metal band called Slaughterdwarf, and that was just one massive piss-take, but that's so not what Goatwhore is.

I find your interpretation to be as plausible as any other interpretation. Indeed, I have reconsidered my own treatment of goats in the wake of your reading.

Ugh. the origin of this band's name is worse than any of us could have predicted:

MettleAngel: Alright Ben, I apologize if I ask the questions which you have been asked a million times. In light of my recent tragedy, which I made privy to you previously, I'm quite ill-prepared for this once well-planned interview. So let's begin with the most commonly asked question. Goatwhore is named after a prostitute, right?

Ben: No, where did you hear that?

MettleAngel: I read it in several places, don't tell me that I'm misinformed; this is no way to begin a formal interview.

Ben: No man, just confused! Goatwhore is named after a stripper who we knew.

MettleAngel: Well, isn't that basically the same thing?
Ben: Well no, because a prostitute does it for money...Here's the deal, dude, it's twofold in it's interpretation. Aliester Crowley had this mistress whom he corrupted and whom he supposedly made have sex with goats. Then there was this stripper with a long face who did not look exactly fertile, if you know what I mean....She had pigtails and looked like a goat, man..

This is so offputting. Why does the name Goatwhore have an actual meaning, let alone two? All I can picture is a few seedy metal dudes sitting around a table stewing over how deep and emotionally resonant the term Goatwhore is.
And what is it with bands named after strippers having no spaces? Alexisonfire was confusing enough.

First it was that Toxic Holocaust tour, now this. Why are they going for a thrash audience all of a sudden?

That being said, I'd go to this for Goatwhore if it was coming here. I'm not that familiar with Havok, and The Casualties...well, I don't actually hate them, I just feel very, very indifferent.

Some choice cuts: "This is probley the dumbest review ever, if you even knew the band you would think way different, instead you just made this beucase you are jelous of them. Like it or not, the casualties are one of the main influencing punk bands of today."
