Frank Turner signs to Interscope Records

Frank Turner has joined the Interscope Records roster according to an Alternative Press report. His upcoming album, Tape Deck Heart, is set for a April 23, 2013 release in the US.

Turner's last album was 2011's England Keep My Bones .

So Interscope is still a thing? Which one of the 3 giant majors does it fall under? Either way, it'll be much better hearing this guy on the radio and at sports games than most of the shit they play now.

Much like Gaslight Anthem signing to Mercury Records, this is once again a rising in popularity act signing to a label I had no clue was still around.

Interscope is still a major major ummm label. Mercury closed in the states, and they only relaunched it with the Gaslight signing.

That's great for him. I'm not entirely sure what a major can do for him that Epitaph couldn't but I hope it does whatever that is. Turner is a damn fine musician and he's worked his ass off over the last several years. I'm really happy for him.

I'm happy for him as well. We saw him back in 2011 at a smaller venue and you could already see that he had broken out of the punk scene.

Because he was never really a punk artist (or at least as Frank Turner, not counting million dead). He used to "punk troubadour" thing as way to immediately access more people, but his intention was always to be a mainstream artist.

Eh, I'm not going to argue his intention or his use of the term "punk" or not. I've always liked his music and he's worked hard as pretty much any artists I can think of in recent years, and while his first/core audience is punk(s) he's always had appeal outside of the punk community (which is cool).

That's my point. I'm not saying "he's not punk up tha tru punxxx" or anything like that. It's been his intention to be a big folk artist sine the beginning. He was able to tap into punk because of his past, but I never thought he'd stay in that world for long, at all.

Frank himself commented on the signing on the forums to his website:

"I guess it just felt like the right move for me right now. Funnily enough Brett gurewitz agrees. It's license deal so it doesn't affect the way I go about my business but does mean I can hopefully move things up in the USA. Win win for me."

Sounds like a good deal to me - if it means that he can continue to work his ass off and produce the music that he has and get a wider distribution in the United States this would definitely be a good thing.

There isn't. Interscope has more money to dump into buying him into better locations, but that's about it. Have more stroke at radio and on tv shows and what not. Basically, interscope's going to spend a shit load of money for him to barely sell more records than he's already sold.

I loved Ruffalo, and I enjoyed Eric Bana, they just put him in an awful, awful movie.
Norton is good, and his was the best movie, but he wasn't the best Banner.

Best, technically? Maybe not, but most enjoyable out of the two. Norton's was so incredibly boring, even if he was the better Banner/Hulk. Plus, Liv Tyler irks me like nobody's business, except in That Thing You Do!.

Eric Bana was so boring in that movie. No charisma at all. Then Nolte's weird turn as the Absorbing Man? That movie was a mess.
The Norton one was better but it had problems too. A lot of comic readers, me included, feel Hulk works best as part of a team in small doses. Avengers was the best Banner/Hulk portrayal by far.

The Incredible Hulk, with Hulk's cast, would've been an excellent Marvel movie. Then again, Norton rewrote tons of the script, so who really knows.
Hulk did have a better cast though, you've got me there.
