Less Than Jake currently writing 8th full length LP

Less Than Jake have begun writing their eighth full-length. Drummer Vinnie Fiorello said this:

It's not a secret that we have been not releasing any full length records, I loved the quickness of writing and recording the EP format, you can dance around [different] styles .Anyway, being able to cut songs and recording into chunks served our band well during the last few years, allowing us to equally concentrate on our anniversary and be at home with our new expanding families. Now, we have been writing new songs for a full length, a complete thought musically and lyrically.

The prolific band just released an EP collection titled Greetings & Salutations and a remastered reissue of Borders & Boundaries; both via Fat Wreck Chords. They released their last studio album - GNV FLA - via their own Sleep It Off Records

Hello Rockview is one of my favorite albums ever and I really enjoy the rest of their catalog, but I couldn't bring myself to care about Greetings & Salutations. Feeling the same about this. Hope it pleasantly surprises me, though, as GNV FLA was killer.

Half and half for me. None of the EPs really did much for me, but I'm really optimistic about an LP, if only because they'll put a lot more effort into crafting a collection of good songs rather than just being able to hammer out some EPs for the merch booth in time.

If you mean digital merch booth, then sure. The two EPs were never released physically until Fat Wreck put them out on an LP a month ago.

More or less; all I'm saying is that I have more faith in the output from a collective songwriting session for a full-length LP than I do from the "quickness" of making an EP, as LTJ puts it.

seasons greetings (1st EP) was out on CD. I believe the second was a download code on a custom LTJ pack of rolling papers. but you could only get them at shows.

Cool.
Just don't sound like "In With The Out Crowd' (not bad, but their worst, along with) / "Losers, Kings, & Things We Don't Understand".

I actually loved "Greetings & Salutations" and "GNV FLA", so if it ends up similar to those, cool.
Biggest longshot, it would be quite swell to have something similar to "Losing Streak".

Biased, but I thought IWTOC was a great record, but just not very LTJ like. I think if it was some other band or some new band at the time it would have been appreciated more.

I pretty much like everything they have put out. Never really understood why IWTOC gets as much hate has it does. It's a great pop punk album. However, everyone stacks it up against Losing Streak and it gets trashed. They are different albums. Love Anthem as well, that one has really stood the test of time. Losing Streak will always be a classic though.

The two biggest problems with it are that it's really quite overproduced and, believe it or not, the lack of horns. I'm not typically a brass guy, but the horns really give LTJ's music its punch, especially on the rock/pop-punk songs. Just compare the two versions of "Look What Happened".

Good album, but not a great one, IMO. I could do without three or four songs here and there, but the rest is just fine.

Yes. Incredibly overproduced.

And, IMO, the songs are bland and repetitive. But I can't really judge, since I haven't been able to force myself to give it another chance after the first couple listens. Anthem was also overproduced, but the songs were good enough that it was still a fun album.

What hurts 'IWTOC' for me are the songs "Hopeless Case", "Fall Apart", "Landmines and Landslides" and - although I kind of like it - "The Rest of My Life". Those are pretty much unabashed "let's write a pop single" tracks; they just don't sound like anything that would come out of LTJ and it totally takes me out of the album. "Overrated" is a pop single, but it still sounds like LTJ. Even 'Anthem''s singles still sounded like LTJ, but those other moments on 'IWTOC' sound like a totally different band...a kind of mediocre band.

I don't even remember what any of those songs sounds like, except for "Overrated," which I seem to recall as something of a standout. I guess I'll have to hear the album again. Dammit.

Mostly the (over)production, I imagine, plus some noticeably bad lyrics and fewer horns. not a great record, but not anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

It's totally mediocre. Outside of the vocals, nothing about it sounds like LTJ. I don't fault bands for trying something different, but I also don't automatically praise them for shitting out a subpar album, let alone a terrible one. The album also reeks of label control due to the sudden shift from the Anthem/B Is For B-Sides sound to IWTOC. It's a skidmark in an otherwise damn fine discography.

Rockview and B&B were the albums that got me through high-school, but after anthem, I sort of burnt out on this band.
Don't really know what they can put out that will get me psyched again. Still enjoy it whenever Nervous in The Alley comes on my iPod though.

They are working on a cover record this year as well....and not TV theme songs. My guess is 80s tracks though.
