Gatsby's American Dream Recording 'Ribbons & Sugar'

Gatsby's American Dream are titling their upcoming album "Ribbons & Sugar." The title comes from a line in George Orwell's famous novel "Animal Farm." The band is in the studio for the next month with James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Further Seems Forever). Their album will tentatively be released on July 1st by RocketStar Records.

Are these guys any good? I've heard some good things about them, and they seem fairly well read (or at least are trying hard at seeming that way). Plus, The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books, so I'm curious. -El Vaquero

most of their stuff is pretty good. Pop-punk, but not as generic as most bands. Their new drummer is in waxwing, which automaticly gives them a big bonus sign for me. The one song Ive heard from their new cd isnt too impressive.

I think they're fucking awesome! They are basically a melodic punk band, but they're not the same old shit you hear over and over again. They certainly do their own thing, and mix it up a lot. With all the members having been in previously sucessful bands from the Seattle area (One Point Two, Good For Nothing, Waxwing, KthroughSix...) their talent is evident. From what I've heard so far...their new album seems as if it is going to be even more different from the main boundaries within "punk rock," with more of an emphasis on the music (the new songs seem to be very "music driven"). I love them, and if you want to check them out - you can do it on mp3.com - but I suggest just buying their CD instead.
