Last two Smoking Popes albums to finally be released

After years of waiting in one case, and what seemed like years in the other, Double Zero Records is finally putting the legend of the Smoking Popes to rest with the band's last recorded album, an all-covers disc entitled "The Party's Over," along with the much-anticipated Smoking Popes tribute album featuring the likes of Grade, Bad Astronaut, The Ataris, and more. oh what lovely news. new smoking popes. what joy. that and some new duvall coming out soon and ill be set until the weakerthans and elliott smith cds come out this summer.

What is the deal with Duvall covering a smoking popes song? Seems kind of silly. And if any one from double zero is out there Im pissed of at you large cause I ordered CDs from you in the summer and its now what? Feb 23 and I still havent gotten anything. Not to mention I emailed the people over there like 4 times about it and didnt get one reply back. IF anyone can get me there phone number or anything where i can reach them replay to this! THanks

Is it just me, or is the cast in this album NOTHING like it was hyped to be? I mean, besides the ataris cover, what is going on? Duvall, Mike Felmulee, and Tom Daily should NOT cover their own songs (for those that do not know, tom daily played some with the popes at the end of their run). When the listing first came out, there were bands such as Jets to Brazil on it doing covers. Now, we have to face an almost pure double zero lineup. The popes were great...this tribute does not look like it will be

it could have been better, I would have loved a JTB version too but oh well. Its ok. But if you're only gonna get one, get the Popes cd, not the tribute.

ha! Mike's putting out a tribute to himself - that's funny shit. and then Mike, Tom and Duvall are covering their own songs. fucking brilliant!

Jets to Brazil actually recorded a song, sent it to mike, and then asked for it back because blake wasn't completely happy with their recording. I tsucks because it would have been cool to have a cover by them.

That cover album is just horrible... Jets To Brazil was supposed to cover "You spoke to me" from what I heard, which is funny cause the song was about Blake....to bad that didn't happen.... BUT, the smoking popes covering other songs is a great idea and I have been waiting for far to long now for this one...finally Jim

NEED YOU AROUND is one helluva good song, the 'Popes' best song in my opinion. i hope its not "misrepresented" on the tribute album. on the other hand though, i guess in some strange way thats the point of a cover. eh, oh well. -MATEO D'CAY
