Doom41 writes "Check out this page kiddies,..all the news concerns apolitical commerical mainstream corporate punk rock (i.e.-rancid, unwritten law, stuff on FAT, etc). That is the only thing in "punk" this site COVERS!It makes no attempt to even mention contemporary REAL Punk bands out there keeping it real and up with the D.I.Y. spirit(which i'm sorry to say EPITAPH is far from). That is too bad because with the aparent popularity of this site it could be a real cool networking place for noting political action in the scene, REAL news of the horrors of this corporate world, and stuff on REAL punk bands, maybe this could get all these pop culture epifat kids in to the REAL scene and the REAL movement.Later (i have HOPE for you punknews.org!) " This is just a sample of the type of mail I get... you get a little traffic, and people call you a sellout. Interesting. I wish people would stop writing rants like this and write something about the "horrors of the corporate world, and stuff on REAL punk bands", it's not like I won't post it.

In case you didn't notice, PunkNews.org is like an interactive thing. Like people send in news and it gets posted. If you want "REAL" punk bands to get coverage, then do it yourself (wow, there's a "REAL" punk concept, DIY). And who are you to define "real punk" anyway? To me "real punk" starts with Warzone and Bad Brains and Agnostic Front and includes Fugazi, Beastie Boys, Snapcase, hell, even Cyndi Lauper, bands that most people wouldn't consider punk. Punk isn't a style of music, and it sure isn't being more broke, more sloppy, and on a smaller label than the next band. Punk is an attitude, and NoFX and Fat Wreck encompass that attitude. It's only punk-snobs like you that I would classify as "not real punk". So either accept the solid coverage PunkNews offers, do something about it, or get the hell out of the scene. 100% agree with you guy, that the thing that the punk labels like epitaph an fat wreck are doing, just keep punk music going on, not for money, not for fame, just for love of punk music, just to support punk bands who are really cool and want to play punk music in the best way to do it, just for love to music, to show their thinkings and their ideas, without have to be sellouts if join to the records levels like sony and many other that everyone know now. hey guys, don't fight against other punk rockers, we have to be together for this cause, punk community have to be together to can continue being an alternative to escape to the society that all of we're living in the whole world.

Epitaph is a major label! Unlike fat ,epitaph is a workplace for a lot of people.(While only about 8 people work for Fat). Epitaph is distributed by major labels, sends their promo stuff to every musci show and radio too.Epitaph airs tv ads for their bands... profit not punk.Sure some of the bands on Epitaph refuse to do that (nofx, pulley, union 13...). Epitaph only plays as a independent label because they are affraid to lose their fans. thats all
Total 13 (August 25, 2000)
This may seem a little too analytical, but it is a hell of a lot better than that piece of shit rant. The guys name is "Doom", probably from the band of the same name which leads me to believe that he might be into the whole crust thing(why though?). So, since it can be agreed for the most part that this site generally doesn't cover that stuff, Doom, why dont you go to the slap-a-ham, relapse, etc. messageboards and websites and you can get "your" news there.
Total 13 (August 25, 2000)
so you have a problem with Epitaph? Why are you gonna make the bands off there suffer by boycotting them? You probably dont boycot Epitaph though in which case, SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT!!!! If you dont like the label, dont support it. That too hard?
Shon (August 26, 2000)
Why isnt Rancid punk, because they are better than alot of the punk bands out there? because they have a message with their music, who actually knows what punk is? i mean punk to me, and punk to you could be 2 different things. Seriously who is anyone to say what punk is and isnt, i mean who died and left you with the title of supreme punk? come on people
TheWolf (August 27, 2000)
Dood...I fuckin hate people who say RaNCiD isn't punk. RaNCiD is punk as fuck- the music, the lifestyle, the politics, everything. Alot of people say RaNCiD isnt punk simply because they have a record that went gold and sold tons of copies. So FUCKING what if they have talent and people appreciate it and buy their records. That dosen't make them sell-outs. Just because they have the talent to play more than 1 chord (ie. Crass) dosen't mean they aren't punk. I mean fuck, my favorite bands are the Casualties, Anti-Flag, and yeah, Rancid. If you have ever listened to a rancid record or gone to a rancid show, you would know that they are as punk as those other two. If you had given them a chance you would know this. All other arrogant "snob punks" need not apply. The Wolf SEE YA IN THE PIT RxPxUx

fuck all of this crappy poppy, emo garbage. fuck all the fat/epitaph/hopless/fearless/nitro, etc... and other lables like them. you people miss the point the band on those labels are safe and dont stand fro anything. and no i dont like crass, the bands on those labes will not be remembered cause they are exactly whats wrong with punk. i dont even pay attention to those labes ore bands anymore. i was not going to reply to this cause this site blows. it caters to jock rock. you guys can keep going to yer wareped tour garge and then move on to yer next fade. and also anti flag blows, casualties blow(now). '77 & '82 still lives in me.
Adam (August 28, 2000)
Q: How many REAL Punk Rockers does it take to change a light bulb? A: Fucking sellout. Why do you want to change it? It's been working fine since 1984. You're out of the scene...
thoughtbeforeispoke (August 29, 2000)
yea 77 back when the sex pistols were busy being corporate stooges to malcom mclaren and the clash were on A MAJOR LABEL. get over yourself buddy. if this site blows so much, why are you here? When you say all those fat/epitaph/nitro bands dont stand for anything, have you ever listened to AFI or NOFX or read into their lyrics? Also, a lot of those bands are active with groups like food not bombs and peta... before you talk shit, make sure you have the facts to back yourself up. oh yea, learn how to spell while you are at it.
Kip (August 29, 2000)
hmmm i posted a huge reply and it is gone now. i am not typing it again. FUCKING HELL! Rancid has mohawks, they are punk! DUH!! j/k
Alxcypher (August 29, 2000)
I'm just curious at this notion of selling out. I always belived that a band was a sellout when they break from their roots and basically contradict their ethics. I think that most of the bands labelled as sellouts didn't even do this, they merely sought exposure to keep doing what they like doing, making music. If these bands seek a little money by advertising and creating enough money to do what they want all the time, I say congratulations you've probably reached the point that you always wanted. 77' and 82' are just a couple of years, not a label to say the bands were all brilliant.
Joe Shithead (August 29, 2000)
wether or not epitaph are a major label is not the reason why punk bands have gotten big. all those big punk bands that "soldout" like rancid, green day, bad religion, and bands like that. The only band i think truely sold out was the Offspring. i dont think blink 182 sold out they were always like that and play shitty music to say the lest. by the way the only bands that i like that i have mentioned so far was bad religion. and i am ashamed that epitaph have signed a lot of shitty bands and just let anyone get in there. REAL punk bands are a dieing breed. Maybe punk IS dead? | Features
