It's only free in california, and that's a different version of it anyways. The one that they are doing subs for, I think, is the national version that has free CD's in it and stuff, and is waaaay thicker.

That's funny. Yeah, AP sucks. They started out so cool many many years ago. I hope AMP doesn't head this direction. Doubt that would happen.I going to subscribe just to get the Give Up The Ghost CD and DVD with AFI on it. Well worth it. Oh yeah, and the mag too!

Yeah, that statement is obviously coming from somebody who has no idea about the magazine. Their ratio of major label bands to inie bands (if there are any left anymore) is about as low as you can get this side of MRR, and who reads that? And even their articles on the major bands are from the perspective that other magazines don't take. They are not just puff pieces to sell mags, they are cool interviews.

basically what everyone else has said is true, you need to go pick up the fucking magazine and read it, its a lot better than alternative press, and for fucks sake that scooter guy deserves his own magazine alone, he seems to be the only 'journalist' for a magazine who is speaking out against all the bullshit out there, ie. good charlotte....the bottom line: AMP is a great magazine, your opinion on it sucked due to the fact that you obviously seem to know nothing of the publication, so shut up and go pick up a copy of it

Damn, I just spent $28 on 2 of those records I could have got for free, and I have to subscribe anyway. AMP is amazing. I love the free CD in the magazine. Great way to find out about bands.

This is great. Ordering these things through interpunk costs like $6 each. This is way cheaper, probably faster, and I get free CD's. Hey- has anybody heard that Jawbreaker Tribute?

AMP is no Razorcake. Everyone knows that. Let's see AMP put SuperChinchillaRescueMission on the cover over the Swingin' Utters or Howard Zinn over Good Riddance. And let's see AMP get interesting columnists like the Rhythm Chicken and "admitted sexual offender"(HA!) Rich Mackin.

Yeah, I'll take amp any day over the razorcake. Give me some bands that i care about, and then turn me onto some bands that are actually good. By the way, amp ahs the best collection of columnists I have ever seen. Maybe someday they will pick up the "rhythm chicken" for you.

I know superchinchillarescuemission is long gone, but any idea what bands came from the break-up? (or bands that members of SCRM have joined?) Their end came way too early in my opinion.

This "news" sounds like a free advertisement to me. Whatever, its Aubin's site he can do as he pleases. here is my Q for the troops: Any of you kids read MRR anymore? Anyone out there remember Flipside Mag? Here is the important one: Anyone out there HAVE any old flipsides they wanna trade me? I can swap records/cd's/cash/MST3K tapes/ whatever for them. I'm only after ones that have Athena's "northern Noise" column. -Thanks, ken

Blah. The only punk zine worth reading is MaximumRockNRoll. I resent most zines because they are nothing but "advertorials." That is, magazines whose content is dictated and comprised of nothing but advertisements. For example, having a posh cover of Anti-Flag with said band's multi-page feature spread in the zine, and then seeing 4-5 Fat ads throughout the mag. By the way, I'm not bashing Fat. Although, MRR does take ads, their content is not compromised by who chooses to give them money. And you will also never see a Vagrant, Victory, or Epitaph band in MaximumRockNRoll--this is a good thing. MRR has informed columnists that write relevant stories pertaining to the current American cesspool called the Bush Administration. MRR contains more than just the "music" aspect of the punk subculture. I have not seen other zines dedicate 8-10 pages of news pertaining to domestic and w

Paul Westerberg, The Strike, Hot Water Music, All, and a few other good bands are on those three labels. I'll agree that MOST of the bands on those labels are shit but it's 100% retarded to boycott entire INDIE labels because their bands suck or whatever dumbass reason there is. I'm glad to know that I can continue to ignore MRR, though, since they concentrate on crap bands like Holding On and ignore good bands like the Strike, whose work ethic and willingness to fight for what they sing about far outweighs that of the fashion punks in MRR. Perhaps MRR has a problem with the way the label is run instead of the bands on the label. If that's the case, I could not be more upset with the magazine. That's one of those "attack the troops, not the government"

First of all- you're an idiot. The number of ads to the number of pages in content in MRR is way more grotesque than in almost all other "punk" rags. Second of all- there are 2 pages of ads in the Anti-Flag issue that are from Fat. Fat had more ads in the issue with the Distillers on the cover. Once again, you' are an idiot. It's called "a label knowing a good magazine to take out ads in", not buying the cover. As far as not seeing Vagrant and Drive Thru ads, they are not allowed to advertise because of their major label affiliations. This is part of the great hypocriciy that is MRR. They all walk around with their sex pistols and ramones shirts on, and say major labels suck. There's something brilliant about that. Not only that, there are labels that used to not be able to advertise, and there are also full page ads that used to not be allowed, which now are. Go

George Tabb's columns and Wells Anarchy are the first ones read each month. I used to take MRR to class with me and sit in the front row and read every word in the entire zine. The professors would get all pissed, but fuck it. The reviews are pretty good, I really trust Rob Coons and Mike Thorn. I miss Max Ward's reviews. Shane White's reviews crack me up. especially when he talks about eating his dad's asshole, then gives the record a good review. -Ken

I gotta say that after reading your complaints about MRR, i'm floored. how can you hate a zine that bad? I'll admit that they have draconian penalties for writing sexist shit in columns, but the product they put out each month is consistently professional. Compared to Shredding paper at least, MRR owns big time. SP is about 50% reviews of indie-pop bands, 40% ads and the small remainder is columns. MRR has a wide variety of voices represented in their column section, old punks Mykel Board and George Tabb, Young Punks like Maddy and Chris Bickel, politics from Ted Rall and Lefty Hooligan, Women like Erika Ransom and Renae Bryant, Gays, Mentally Ill, Prisioners...you name it. very cool shit. -Ken
