Piebald joins Side One Dummy

Straight from Side One Dummy is the news that Piebald has signed to the label. The band and the label have yet to make an announcement, but it should be forthcoming.

Adam was pretty happy with their last record [review] and a few of you have shared your thoughts on their recent output.

I was actually surprised to find myself enjoying their last record... it's pretty much straight up pop rock, but catchy, and I love the big guitar sound... their old stuff never did anything for me though.

the best part of "big league chew" is the fact that each different flavor had a different cartoon baseball player on the pouch, as if being the personal manifestation of the flavor. i loved the grape guy. he was pretty damn cool. and so was the flavor. i will, however, point out that i, for one, never met anyone who was able to keep a pouch for more than one day. you just rip through the chew. i challenge all punk rockers everywhere to buy some big league chew and not chew the whole package the day you open it.

Something about this just seems off, I dunno... I would've thought Piebald would have either A)gone to a major or B)signed to a label not as stereotyped as S1D. Sub Pop, Doghouse, Fueled By Ramen, even Vagrant all seem like better fits than this. -Scott

how can you say stereotyped when they have 1.Flogging Molly 2.Maxeen 3.Suicide Machines....I don't think any of these bands sound the same...I guess I just don't get the "stereotype". And who fucking knows if it'll be good/bad for the band/label. If they were trying to cash in on emo they would get a new up and coming band with really cute members like every other label does. Instead they picked a band that has been doing what they do for quite some time.

I guess I just stereotype S1D as the "Warped Tour Label." I like some of their bands, but it seems like 99% of their signings are built for the kind of attitude that Warped Tour gives off, and I just don't see Piebald on that tour at all. Conflicting fanbases, I think. -Scott

Hmmmmm. I could definetly see them on a label like sub pop or maybe even matador (pretty girls....) I like some of the bands on side one (not all of them) and now I like one more. I think that if you look at all of the bands that side one has signed this isnt really all that weird...they have put out a lot of different records over the years. they have a new band called Maxeen that is kinda like the police that really rips and I think they could play with piebald and it wouldnt be strange...

Sub Pop? I get your point, but this is a bad example. As most people probably know, Sub Pop has released records by Nirvana, Murder City Devils, Mudhoney, Reverend Horton Heat, Sebadoh, Postal Service, Shins, Sunny Day Real Estate, etc. They would never touch Piebald.

Sub Pop put out a Sloan record in the early 90s....that speaks volumes to the contrary. Although, admittedly, now it would be unlikely they would sign Piebald but it is certainly not beyond possibility (as you suggest).

Sub Pop has never released a Sloan album, I believe you are mistaken...well at least according to Sloan's discography and Sub Pop's entire catalogue of their releases. Anyways, Sloan ain't that bad being Beatlesque power-pop in comparison to the overtly dramatic emocore self-sympathy of Piebald. However, I do understand your point.

Sorry, I was under the impression that "Twice Removed" had been distributed in the US by Sub Pop, although it was in fact 'released' by their label Murderrecords. But, again, I could be incorrect.

Yes. The Casualties do blow horse dick. The Casualties and their fans remind me of dirty Las Vegas show girls.....with all the flashy bright colors, and large plumage and what have you.

By the way- Amplitude Magazine sucks. I bought it because I thought it was the free version of AMP Magazine, but it is far from it. What a piss off. That magazine licks scrotum! AMP should sue them.

Funny you should mention AMP. I just got my subscription in the mail today with my free CD's. I am stoked. I got 2 CD's that I was going to buy anyways, and another free CD in the magazine,and a year of the magazine for $20. i would have spent more than that on the 2 CD's I got for free with it. So far I have listened to the new Against Me and it's great.

Wow. Bosstones, Suicide Machines, Flogging Molly, AND Piebald. Side One is becoming a very good label, slowly but surely. This is, of course, in addition to them putting out both Smooths albums and the last Red Five release... which I cannot find ANYWHERE.
