Pitchfork Media is reporting that Kirsten "Lady K" Malone of The Faux has died due to injuries after being struck by a car, she was 29. The website reports that Malone passed away on early Tuesday morning, having been struck by a car while riding her bike in Allston, MA a few days prior on Saturday, June 12th.
Kirsten was a founding member of The Statue Factor, who played between `98 and 2000, and formed The Faux with Statue Factor singer Joseph Coelho in 2001. The Faux released their debut EP last year on Tarantulas Records [review]. Services for Kirsten will be held at St. Luke's Church in Westport, CT on Saturday, June 19th, at 10:00am. Friends and fans in Boston are staging a DIY get-together at that time. It takes place where the footbridge meets Cambridge Street in Allston, which is where the accident occured. I have never listened to the Faux but it is still a shame to hear about anyone passing on at such a young age. I hope for a light to shine on her friends and family and fans of the band in this dark time. Man, its only June and look how many people we have lost already. Looks like it is shaping up to be another tragic year

Wow I've seen them play once in a CMJ series with The Explosion. And while I wasn't too fond of The Faux, I admit they had a strong live presence especially Kirsten. RIP Lady K Ramo

I heard them on the Tarantulas comp that came with that explosion EP. I think I'll buy their album now. Shame

This is so fucking unbelieveable.........*cries* I sit at my computer right now, and I have a The Faux sticker on my monitor. I had the pleasure of seeing these guys back in August of 03 at Bernies in Columbus, OH. I loved the fact that Lady K played a keytar and told her so after the show. She gave me a hug , we chatted about music and she told me that it was because of people like me that she does what she does. She was one of the most welcoming, friendly individuals I have ever met. God bless her. My thoughts go out to Kirstens family and friends. If anyone from The Faux gets this (because they dont have a message board). Feel free to email me, id love to shoot you guys some money via paypal to help do something nice for her family. -Tim McFarland TIM_82@yahoo.com | Features

I can't say that I ever listened to any of the music she made, but it's always a shame when anyone dies like this. RIP.
