I have a feeling this will get some interesting responses..
: This is not really news, I think that by now everybody has seen it by now. The new Coca-cola comercial is all "punky". There's a there's a 20cm mohawk punk in it and it has a Punk cover of a Christmas song. Despite the "Punks supporting mega-corporations stuff" I think it is pretty cool. If you find the band/song name please tell me about it.

I could be really mean and ignorant in this response, in fact, it would be easy but i'm not that type of person. how could a punky pepsi commercial ever be cool? is it cool to have pepsi USE something we cherish so dearly just to sell their exploitive pop (or soda to all you non ohio people lol, its an inside joke)? now, i think it would be acceptable, not cool, if some "alternative" pop company used a punk image, say like Jones soda. Jones soda supports bmx riders and skateboarders but sponsoring riders/skaters, competitions and places to ride/skate. this makes a tremendously positive experience in my life. what does pepsi sponsor? sweatshops to make their expense clothing that people buy to advertise pepsi for them? ok, i'm done ranting. i would love to have any comments the people who read this think. bret oi joy boy@aol.com 8+ Replies

I don't get it either.. why is it cool? Punks supporting mega-corporations isn't cool, like you said. Advertizing, supporting the capitalist system, isn't cool. Christmas music, which they play at work and drives me insane, isn't cool. TV commercials which cut into programming time, aren't cool. Pepsi, which is my least favorite soda, isn't cool. Nope, it's not cool in any way at all. I haven't seen the ad, but considering the fact that you called it a 20cm mohawk, I'm guessing you're not talking about American TV here. Or maybe you've just seen the light and you're an early adapter to the metric system in the US! Haleluja! praise units of 10 that convert easily. 5+ Replies

I think most people aren't getting to the main issue. Personnaly I ain't got notting against mega corporations just for being mega corporations, in this particular case the problem is, Coca Cola is spending tons of money in advertisement when they could/should be using it in much more noble causes. Despite all this the commercial is "cool" anyway for the music, the images, and mainly because it has a message of unity no matter the differences. Think maybe some of you have PREJUDICES that you shouldn't have.

They should have used Dangerous Darrins' song "Pepsi Cola Sucks." Now that's a REAL punk song. Anyone else think it's funny how they're selling pop (soda)--and punk music is often times anti-pop(music)? 3+ Replies

I'm surew this exactly what Coke wanted. Theyve got people that would normally not give a shit about anything or ever even consider talking about a soft drink, and made them advertisers. All of you talking/arguing/whatever about this re just giving Coke more airplay. The more times you say Coke, the more times I think im getting thirsty. In fact, since Coke is getting so much airplay here, I think I'll just go buy a Coke and drink a Coke because Coke is getting Coke's name on this page an awful lot. Maybe we should change the name to cokenews.org 1+ Reply

it seems the most popular response is: "who cares if coke has a punk commercial, it's not a big deal". well fuck that. a major corporation just exploited punk rock to sell some of their product. to me as a punk, i take that as a slap in the face. fuck coke. i'm sick of all of the "punks" who bitch about other punks that get angry over punk rock being used and exploited. it goes against what punk is all about. and the whole "mainstreaming" of punk isn't helping the scene at all, but that's another story altogether. so get a fucking clue and start giving a shit. | Features
