Amps Mistaken for uhm...

New issue of AMP Magazine is up. Cover story is Planes Mistaken for Stars, done by none other that Mr. No idea! (Var) himself. Other features include Alkaline Trio, One Man Army, Hot Hot Heat, Joey Cape / Tony Sly, My Chemical Romance, Redemption 87 (with pics from reunion shows), and Taking back Sunday, along with all the usuall columnists and reviews. The new retail version is now in stock at interpunk.com, but with very limited quantities. It's 250 pages, and comes with free 4 CD's and a Bad religion pin.

Amp publishes the print-edition of Punknews.Org every month and we share a number of interviews. Every time their new conent goes online we let the readers here know. It's not "breaking news" by any means. -adam

Sadly no. It's a collection of the most newsworthy stories from the month along with quick headlines and release dates. It's 3-4 pages out of every issue of AMP. adam

If posting that there is a new interview up in the interview section is news, I would suppose that posting that 18 interviews, and 100+ record reviews being posted somewhere is probably news as well. I get stoked when I see that there is a new issue posted up.

Gee, that's depressing..... Be nice if there was a bigger magazine that covered edgy music/art as well as the same old boring bullshit that every other label-suck-off-please-buy-ad-space rag is covering. Could be worse i guess...could be AP.

Wow, looking at that line up, and all the other bands they covered this month, asw ell as past months, it sounds like AMP is exactly what you are wishing existed. I think they cover apretty nice ballance of bands that you like and want to hear from, and up and coming bands that are cool to find out about. I can't tell you how many new bands AMP has turned me on to.

I already got it. That Bad Religion piece is almost as crazy as that NOFX piece last month. It's like 15 pages long or some shit. Great read.

Redemption 87 ruled. Jade from AFI looks silly with his hair in those pictures. It's cool to see pictures from the reunion shows though, as I wasn't able to make it across the country that night!!! I'm glad they covered that.

So whats the diffrence between the retail and the subscription version? thats what I hate about AP: one its not that great of a magazine, two if you subscribe you get a cd for subscribing or somthing, but you dont get the free samplers and stuff.

From what I've gathered, the retail version is the one you get in the subscription. I have a sub, and I get all the CD's every month. the one that they post online is the free version that they print up and distribute on the west coast. I don't know if they still do it, but I got to pick a couple free CD's for getting my subscription, which paid for itself right there. Great magazine. i think it's way better than AP, unless you want to know what to wear in fall for back to school.

Dude, it's less than $2, and it has like 5 free CD's in it. Just buy it. It's not even worth asking about. If it sucks, take it to Warped, have Bad Religion sign it, and ebay that shit for $50.

Yeah, I ordered one of those. I got that comp they are selling for $3.99, and the shirts were rad so I got a couple of those. It was rad- like less than $20 for a CD and a couple of shirts. I wish MRR made shirts. They used to do rad comps like the amp ones as well.

the skiba/seconds split has shitty production, but good catchy songs by both of them. and alk3/oma split is good, however I like the oma stuff a lot better (and it's my first time hearing the band).. alk3 seems too refined or something.. the first song sounds like arena rock to me or something.

How is it that someone who manages a record label can interview a band whose record his label just released for a fucking cover story and nobody bats an eyelash? Not that I think Var should be like the fucking Bob Woodward of punk rock or anything, but this whole culture of publicists and label owners -- from Jessica Hopper to John Joh to Aaron @ Law Of Inertia (ex-Triple Crown dude) -- running magazines and covering their bands and playing in those same bands and simultaneously promoting those bands, smells pretty shitty to me. You people are dupes.

yeah, imagin the nerve of AMP asking the person who has spent the last few years in close contact with the band, probably knows them better than anybody else, and who used to do their own magazine (No idea! Magazine) to do an interview. You're a fucking moron. the piece came off amazing, and that's the bottom line. Go fucking cry to MRR you scene policer.

yeah, I don't see anything wrong with people being into the music that they are working with. obviously the support the bands, and believe in the bands, but they aren't supposed to be able to do certain things because of douche's like you, and fear of what you might think? you people are fucking retarded. the var / gared / planes interview is just that. an interview where gared talks. read it for yourself. http://65.108.164.40/interview_planes%20mistaken%20for%20star s _22.html it doesnt matter who is asking the questions, and in some cases, there werent even questions being asked, it was just gared talking. this isnt 60 minutes where gared needed to be grilled about anything. the point of it was to get to know him and his band, etc. and thats what was accomplished. idiots.
