Girls Against Boys began in Washington, DC as a side project of Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty, with Eli Janney (bass/keyboards), and Scott McCloud (vocals) who was then a member of the Dischord band Soulside. Soulside disbanded in 1990, and the Girls Against Boys project lay dormant for several years. After regrouping together in New York, the foursome decided to revive the project and record a new album entitled “Tropic of Scorpio.” The new album and the previous EP were released by the Dischord Records offshoot label Adult Swim in 1992. GVSB begain to tour in earnest and became a full time band with line up intact: Scott McCloud (vocals/guitar), Eli Janney (Bass & Keyboards), Johnny Temple (Bass) and Alexis Fliesig (drums).

As a full time band based in New York City, and with some recent touring under their belts, GVSB recorded its first Touch and Go album in 1993, entitled “Venus Luxure No. 1 Baby” and carried on through the 1990’s releasing a slew of EPs/Singles and several more albums for Touch & Go (“Cruise Yourself” in 1994, and “House of GVSB” in 1996.)

In 1998, Girls Against Boys left the Touch and Go stable for a run with major label, Geffen Records. In 2002 they returned for a last album, this time on Jade Tree Records (“You Can’t Fight What You Can’t See”). In recent years, apart from select short tours and shows in Europe, Girls Against Boys has remained on official hiatus.
