yeah, I think it's funny that most people don't realize ska came more than fifteen years before "reggae" as we know it. and real ska sounds more like "reggae". It's a topsy turvy little sitch-y-ation

I'm ok with hyphenations. Ska-punk, Ska-core, Pop-ska.

If there's a genre that needs its own name, its the melodic hardcore of Bad Religion/NOFX of the late 80's and beyond. Somehow, hardcore got its own name but when the next generation put some melody into it, it just became "melodic hardcore" and then reverted back to just "punk". And really, NOFX has more in common musically with Iron Maiden than with the Ramones or the Sex Pistols.

scene points aside, i'd be lying if i didn't say that Less Than Jake got me into independant music when i was 14. i don't really listen to them now, but i think their impact on the genre of punk/diy music has been huge.

ska came first...reggae came along a few years later
