I'll always be partial to 'Bitter Tongues' of course, it remains one of my favorite albums of the past fifteen years, but 'Three Chord' was a wonderful album, even though I have some bad memories associated with it I can't stop listening to "Lipstick and Makeup".

Am I the only person who loves New Union Old Glory? It was the first album I bought by AB, and fell in love instantly. I feel it is more solid than To All Our Fallen Heroes. Bitter Tongues is great, but seems too long to have the right flow. Three Chord Revolution is solid song wise, but does lack a lot of the agression that I loved about AB. The only thing about New Union Old Glory that I feel kind of makes it fall short, is there seems something off about the mix. The other side of the coin is quite amazing also. All this aside I am stoked to hear Rob finally got picked up by a label again. He is one of my favorite songwriters, and I often find myself amazed at how he can stretch 3 chords into so many different variations and make it interesting. The first Foundation record moved me in a way only a few records have. There are some really powerful songs on there. I know Rob has said before he kind of set out to try and make his own Closing Time with that album, and I don't know how he feels, but in my book he surpassed it. The Fifteen cover at the end was amazing too. The demos from 05/06 are a step away from the first Foundation record (though that record is a step away from The Other Side of the Coin, so no surprise there), but the bottom line is they are still good heartfelt songs. I really think Rob has one of the best voices out there, and a certain knack for songwriting that few others these days do. Well now that I've damn near written a review, I guess the only other thing is to encourage people to check it out. |
