For lack of a better term, we are calling the buy in "buying shares". Each "shareholder" will have a say in nominating releases, voting on nominated releases, and will then get a copy of the rarest version of that release. I thought of this to get people involved in a positive project. It isn't for everyone, but for some, it will be really cool.

If you want to read more about it, stop by Vinyl Collective and / or our message board.

thanks Ben for doing this contest and for everyone's interest in the project.

    1) there is a board

    2) there is a form of dividend offered to shareholders in the form of a copy of every record pressed... which could end up being worth more or less than the initial investment.. just like anything you could buy on the stock market.

    3) this is less of a corporation, and more of a community owned and operated business. Like any other commune there is some sort of buy in required, wether that be money or sweat equity... but through that buy in, you are a part of something bigger.

    4) i thought the punx police were always up on the idea of collectively run businesses where every person involved had an equal say?

    5) this will be fun. its the punk rock equivalent of fantasy baseball or worlds of warcraft, or the stock market game. For a small amount of money you get to help run a record label, and be a part of something that has the potential to be really amazing... and worst comes to worst.. you end up with some experience, and a boxful of records.. and you can always sell your share and get out if you aren't happy... on the other hand.. you get to meet a ton of new people across the country (potentially world) and work together at something you love and are passionate about.. that you might not ever otherwise get to partake in. $60 isnt a lot of money. its a night of drinking, or dinner and a movie for 2. don't be hating because you don't comprehend it.

I think the term "shares" is being used more conceptually here rather than a strict definition. Besides, there are many definitions of a "share" and Virgil may not necessarily be using the one that you are assigning to the term in this context.
