Streams: Cheap Girls: "Find Me a Drink Home"

Quote Unquote Records

Cheap Girls Today we're happy to bring you a stream of the new album from Cheap Girls. The record is titled Find Me a Drink Home and we reviewed it earlier this year:

A guitar, bass and drum trio that mix three-chord pop songs with some bar rock riffs and solos for a sound that recalls the finer power-pop bands of the last decade. [...] Graham’s pleading, albeit reserved, vocals recall Josh Caterer of the Smoking Popes in their pleasant crooning approach. It’s this soothing delivery, coupled with often-excellent melodies that make Cheap Girls a recognizable face in the power-pop crowd.

Check out the whole album on their Punknews.org Profile.

No Trigger announce new album, show at Fest 7, members playing with Set Your Goals
Contributed by johnrambo. Posted by chris on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 3:00 PM (EDT)
Nitro Records

No TriggerNo Trigger frontman Tom Rheault dropped us a line denying recent break-up rumors, and to provide some updates on the band's recent happenings. Included are an upcoming set at this year's The Fest 7, a new record, and two band members currently playing with fellow melodic hardcore brethren Set Your Goals. Here's what Tom had to say:

So it dawned on me that there has not been any official updates from No Trigger Land recently, and today seemed like the perfect day to fill in the gaps. Today is special for a couple reasons. First of all, we would like to announce that yet again, true to all of our deep-rooted personal convictions, we will be making the pilgrimage south this fall to play THE FEST in Gainesville, Florida. This will be our next show, and its pretty spectacular because other than one show we played in Boston in May, the last show we played for you guys was last years Fest!

According to our spreadsheets, this has been the slowest touring year for No Trigger since we formed back in 2001, but there are a couple very good reasons for that. First off, Billy and Erik are also in another band called Smartbomb and they have been busy putting out a new record and touring and such, so get off our back and pick up their new CD. It's on ThinkFast. Then, Jon has been graciously tapped by our good friends in Set Your Goals to play guitar for them for this year. We are talking the UK tour, all of Warped Tour, and more... so he has been super busy preparing and touring for that little gig. And THEN, for the next week or so, if you guys check out Set Your Goals on Warped Tour, our drummer Erik is ALSO filling in. They are playing in Massachusetts today so do not miss Set Your Goals with two No Trigger dudes filling in!

Other than that, me (singing Tom) and Tom (bass Tom) have been doing other things like working, camping, and investing in property, but we have also been writing new material. Yes, new No Trigger songs. The songs are in the early stages, but its super exciting to be working on new stuff and we will be previewing some new songs at this years FEST. The plan is also to get a bunch of songs together and record sometime this winter so we can put out a new disc and come visit you guys again, where ever you live. Its probably hard to believe but yes, we plan on putting out a new CD. And touring off of it as much as we possibly can.
The band's last output was Canyoneer, released in 2006 via Nitro Records.

Mikes Ness talks about new Social D album, future projects
Contributed by alex101. Posted by chris on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 12:00 PM (EDT)
Social Distortion

Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness recently spoke with Synthesis.net about the band's future recording plans, a new solo album and a possible documentary on Social D.

We’ve got studio albums for both projects. It’s wide open. [I’m taking] the most part of this year off, and then next year it’s time to gear up and get focused, and create. I think it’s gonna be great. The time off always helps me prepare for creating subconsciously.
A follow-up to 2004's Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll has been mentioned, but delayed several times while the band had been touring constantly for the last few years. Although a title and release date for the new Social Distortion album have not yet been officially confirmed, the band plans to release it sometime in 2009 as well as an acoustic album.

A new solo record would follow Ness' last two outputs; Cheating At Solitaire, and the country music covers compilation, Under The Influences. Both records were released in 1999.

Hopeless launches "P is for Panda" imprint

Hopeless Records

Hopeless has announced the launch of a new imprint. Named P is for Panda, the label is the project of Chad Pearson who founded and ran The Militia Group for 12 years. While the company initially began as a t-shirt company, Chad is now branching out into a proper indie label. Like Hopeless' other imprint, Subcity Records, P is for Panda has a strong charitable arm, with a third of its profits going to various charities.

The first release on P Is For Panda is a compilation featuring 16 songs from eight up-and-coming groups, including Gasoline Heart, Discover America, Damion Suomi, Mike Dunn & The Kings Of New England, and more. The album will retail for $1.98 and be available digitally August 5th, with a physical street date of September 2nd. In continuing with the clothing side, P is for Panda has also unveiled a new summer line of t-shirt designs from artists Jesse LeDoux, M. Brady Clark, Brian Manley and Roy Fleeman.

To celebrate the new musical venture, a CD release show and label launch for P Is For Panda will be taking place July 25th in Atlanta at the Highland Inn Ballroom Lounge. Featuring music and artwork from the company’s collaborators, admission is two cans of food that will be donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Ten percent of all art sold will also be donated to the Valentino Achak Deng Foundation in order to help rebuild schools in southern Sudan.
