Posted by ben on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 9:00 PM (EST)
Jeff Rosenstock and his computer started Bomb the Music Industry! after his previous outfit, the Arrogant Sons of Bitches, called it quits. Since then, BTMI has become a nationally renounced touring act, Jeff has founded the first donation-based record label in Quote Unquote Records, and the focus of that first BTMI song has retired from the White House. Gene Axton recently talked to the BTMI frontman about The Fest 8, managing a record label, and more.
Editors note: This interview was conducted well before the Fest, but fell back in the queue.

Our Fest 8 videopalooza continues tonight with an acoustic performance from Cheap Girls. The Lansing, MI outfit dropped the amplifiers and the fuzz (and the drummer, poor man) for a brief acoustic respite on Sunday night in front of a packed house at Gainesville's Civic Media Center. "Hey Hey I'm Worn Out" is from the band's recent sophomore full-length and debut for Paper and Plastick, My Roaring 20s.

Asian Man Records has announced more details on the upcoming solo album from Alkaline Trio guitarist/vocalist Matt Skiba. The album will be called Demos and is slated for a February 16, 2010 release. The label is promising to post new songs once the record is mastered and also remarked:
"The new Matt Skiba album "Demos" is getting mastered this week. 15 brand new songs. All songs were recorded over the past 10 months by Mr. Skiba in various avenues. Whether in his bedroom or while traveling, Matt recorded these songs originally as demos, but the songs are perfect as is. We couldn't ask for more. Anybody who loves the Alkaline Trio without the glossed over production will be incredibly happy with this final product. We plan on releasing various colors of vinyl and will be taking
pre-orders sometime in DECEMBER"
Skiba last released a split CD with Kevin Seconds in 2002. Meanwhile, his Trio bandmate Dan Andriano has been playing solo shows under the name The Emergency Room, and Alkaline Trio are slated to self-release their next full-length sometime in the future.

After just wrapping up a full U.S. tour, they’re already back on the road with New Found Glory for a few East Coast and Midwest gigs. Toronto's Hostage Life have announced their breakup via their blog. The band's final show will take place at Sneaky Dee's in downtown Toronto on November 20. They remarked:
"This may seem like it is coming out of left field, but one of us had some personal problems that needed to be taken care of and the rest of the band decided it would be better to break up than to continue a man short. Thanks to everyone that helped, watched, hated, loved, and listened."
The band recently released their new full-length Centre of the Universe for free via Juicebox Recording Co.
30 Seconds to Mars debuts song in "Dragon Age: Origins"
Posted by aubin on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 3:00 PM (EST)
30 Seconds To Mars is premiering their new single in Dragon Age: Origins, a dark fantasy-based tactical RPG released by Bioware, the makers of Mass Effect and Jade Empire. Despite taking place in some indeterminate past of swords and dragons, the song apparently debuts in-full in the game.
Frontman Jared Leto explained:
We always like to push the envelope in the entertainment and media space and debuting our title track in a game of this caliber is a great way to communicate our music to fans around the world. We've come a long way from having to rely solely on radio to approach and engage music fans, and Dragon Age: Origins is the perfect game to do this with.

A Los Angeles judge has blocked the use of the Sublime name by bandmembers Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh. The estate of original vocalist Bradley Nowell filed a trademaerk infringement suit on October 21, in advance of the band's performance at the Cypress Hill Smokeout Festival.
Nowell, who died of a drug overdose in 1996, had registered the 'Sublime' trademark under his own name prior to his death, according to the Nowell family. Wilson and Gaugh continued to perform after Nowell's death under the name Long Beach Dub All Stars, but had recently revived the Sublime moniker after newcomer Rome Ramirez joined the group as lead vocalist.
It's unclear what sort of bearing this ruling will have on the band's future (though a name change at the very least may be in order), but Gaugh hinted at recording and touring in a recent interview, as well as opening free recovery centers for underprivileged teens in Nowell's honor.
Several videos of the band performing at Smokeout Festival can be seen here.
"We hung out a whole bunch in Toronto for a couple days at NXNE actually" ... I was in a hotel room with him, just jamming. He was free-styling and we were hitting it off. Ever since then, we've kept in touch" ... "Basically they want me to be involved in the next record somehow. He's a big fan of the Shrines too, and he's been asking me to write some songs... I'm on tour so much, but I was able to write a few tracks at home and send them in."
The two artists are scheduled to collaborate onstage as part of Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX this weekend. You can click Read More to check out a video of the two onstage at NXNE in Toronto.

According to their MySpace, the controversial hardline group Vegan Reich are writing and rehearsing for a new record. Led by Sean Muttaqi and often credited as being the originators of the vegan straight edge movement, the group's latest offering was an EP, Jihad, released in 1999 by Uprising Records. Along with their hardline beliefs, the band gained some notoriety for the drummer on that EP, Andy Hurley of Racetraitor who went on to join Fall Out Boy.
As of yet, no release date has been given for the new record.

Norma Jean has signed to Razor & Tie Records. They are also planning a
2010 album release.
The band will headline the "Explosions 2009" US tour in late November through December. Norma Jean will play their breakthrough album Bless The Martyr and Kiss the Child in its entirety on select dates. This is the band's first headlining trek since the Fall of last year and the lineup will feature Horse The Band, The Chariot and Arsonists Get All The Girls.
Cory Brandan of Norma Jean explained the deal, which comes after a run of albums on [[Solid State Records}}:
If we didn't sign to Razor & Tie, I think we would have gone on a killing spree, with no regard for life or limb. I think for the first time in our career, upon presenting our ideas, we get to hear the word "yes" more often. It's like discovering an unknown tribe on a distant island. Except we're the tribe and we don't know your language. Plus we have spears and swords and we're cannibals. Either way, we're insanely animated about R&T showing up and want to try on their Nike Air Jordans.
