Videos: Shook Ones: "Tired of Sex" (live at The Fest 8)
Posted by Bryne on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 9:00 PM (EST)
Tonight's Fest 8 video update stars Shook Ones, who ended The Fest for many of us on Sunday night with an insane cover of the Weezer classic, "Tired of Sex". There were technical difficulties throughout the end of the band's set and kids were going apeshit all over The Atlantic, so disregard the poor quality of the video and try to imagine being there (or reminisce, if you were there).

John K.Samson of The Weakerthans has released his debut solo EP, City Route 85. The three song EP is the first of a series of recordings based on the roadways surrounding Samson's hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and it will be available as either a vinyl 7-inch or a digital download.
City Route 85 refers to Portage Avenue, a main street in Winnipeg. The songs on the three-song EP chronicle the plights of different people on Portage Avenue, including "Cruise Night"'s tale of a young man who wants to join the age-old Winnipeg tradition of driving up and down the street on Sunday nights and "Grace General"'s story of a character preparing to lose a loved one.
Check out the EP on iTunes here . John also has some music posted on his MySpace page.

Avenged Sevenfold has posted an updated on their upcoming plans and new record:
It has been awhile since we have shed light on our current doings. We have been focused on only one thing, writing and preparing to record what to me is our most personal and epic Avenged Sevenfold album. The reason is the fact that everything happening around us in the entire world might be a once in a life time source of inspiration and direction.
We have been harnessing every aspect of what makes A7X truly unrelenting and building off of that. I don’t think we sleep too much anymore because of the excitement we feel while writing this album. We are also in the final stages of solidifying our production team, studios and engineers so that the second the axe falls and the album is written we will spend day and night in the studio until it is complete.

In Memoriam: Paul Preminger of the Smugglers (-2009)
Contributed by shindo. Posted by aubin on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 9:00 AM (EST)
Paul Preminger, founding drummer of Vancouver-punks The Smugglers, has passed away from a heart attack. Smugglers vocalist Grant Lawrence remembered Preminger to Straight.com as:
A guy that hit the drums hard, and who lived hard. He was a Joe Pesci, bulldog kind of a guy, but very smart, very funny, and very kind.…He was one of those guys who’d sit on the couch and answer every single question on Jeopardy!, and you’d be like, ‘What the fuck? How does this Bukowski-esque character know all this?’
“He was much more experienced in every facet of life. He had a hundred stories. It was like touring with a merchant sailor. And he had a lot of strange quirks. He developed a quirk where he’d puke before every show, sometimes on-stage.
Paul recorded one album with the band before leaving in 1992 to become a chef. Our condolences to his friends and family.
