Answer:
Sure; what we need is a photo in as close to a 3:2 ratio as possible. 300x200 is great, but close to that will also work. For a biography, we like to put those together ourselves or use the official biography, but generally we want something that isn't focused on a single album but talks about the band in general: the good, the bad and the ugly - the whole story. No. If we charged for band profiles, we'd end up with the unfortunate situation where only bands with big labels would be featured and all those wonderful, up and coming bands would be ignored.
To prevent that from happening and the database turning into some sort of marketing too, we don't want to charge for profiles. This keeps things fair for everyone and makes sure we feature every great band, not just those with deep pockets. That's easy enough. Any band with a profile can have music attached, we just need to get permission to stream the music. If you've got MP3 files hosted somewhere and you have the right to give us permission to stream them, that's all we need. To keep the number of bands manageable, generally we try to focus on bands that have been reviewed. That way, we create a cut-off to make this into something we can handle.
That's not say that bands that break their necks touring extensively and working hard aren't important, just that we had to draw a line somewhere or things would get crazy. We had to choose a selection of bands out of thousands of reviewed bands to focus on, so we tried to pick bands that had many releases, influential releases or have broken out recently. The result is a mix of bands from the 70s and 80s, 90s and 2000s from all styles and genres. |
