Greyfield Soundtrack to the Summer (2003) Search and Rescue

Hmmm, where do I begin. Well the first thing that came to mind when I heard Greyfield’s CD Soundtrack To The Summer was pop-punk, incredibly pop-punk. Greyfield is a four piece band from Jacksonville Florida who has just finished their first CD. They have been together for a little over a year and are on Search and Rescue Records. I had never heard of them before, but I am sure with how the pop-punk scene is slowly taking over MTV and the radio, you may be seeing these guys in the future.

As far as the pop-punk genre goes, I would say these guys sound like a mix of The Riddlin’ Kids and Midtown. From track one, “Note To Self,” you are hit with power-chords, and they do not stop until the last track. However, as generic as the sound seems, their drums are noteworthy, standing out a little from the formulaic sound. But don’t expect to be blown away.

It is easy to tell that Greyfield is a young band. Their lyrics consist mainly of young high school relationships and situations - including lyrics about wanting to hook up with a girl at an after-party in their second track, “Party After the Show.” They have a sugary connotation, and a teenager persona.

The CD carries out an immense amount of energy from beginning, to end, until it slightly mellows with the last track “Gainesville Heartbreak.” This track talks about graduation day and losing his high school love, and she leaves, and the singer wonders will he ever love again.

I wish there was more I could tell you about the album and this band, but I think what I have written pretty much sums it up. If you are a fan of the pop-punk scene, you will love these guys. They fit the definition to at T with their lyrics and sound. Apparently they have caught on extremely well in the Jacksonville area, and have opened for bands such as Goldfinger, the Riddlin’ Kids, Taking Back Sunday, and more. However, it pop-punk is not your scene, then I would not suggest checking them out. But when you are in the mood for a light, easy listen, these guys can do the job.
