The Dear Hunter is nothing if not ambitious. Although they're currently in the middle of a six-album cycle about the death of a young boy, they've taken a respite from the massive story to release nine EPs collectively called The Color Spectrum, each of which aims to sonically paint the color that it represents.

I downloaded the whole set (legally) and I have to say this was a spectacular failure of a concept project. I won't fault them for trying something different, but none of the songs are that good, especially those that stray too far from the stuff Casey usually writes, and each individual EP is a bit of a mess in and of itself. I had pretty high hopes for this and was totally disappointed. Hopefully Act IV gets these guys back on track. I dug Acts I and II a lot, but III was pretty damn boring and this glut of content just makes it really hard to feel like I should bother investigating. I don't know, guys. I just don't know. | Features
