This is the third LP for Home Grown, and their first one on Drive-Thru Records. Drive-Thru has given the public really mixed blessings this year. I liked the Finch record, but I was bored to tears making my way through the Something Corporate disc. Also, with the whole Midtown dispute, it hasn’t really helped their reputation, or in fact anything at all. They however, sadly under hyped this record. For months upon months, they had nothing up on their website opening except the Finch e-card. Even about three months after it came out, it was still up. The Finch was a good cd, but the hype for it was absolutely ridiculous. Now however, they have the HG e-card up, but its only been up for a little over a week at most. Anyhow, enough about the Drive-Thru talk and back to this cd. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
this is definitely a classic. the new home grown stuff is good too. they age well, like a fine wine. Great album, I love this band and drive thru keep up the good work and let more peoples dreams come true. this band def. kicks ass, the new cd is gonna be great, but i don't know about drive thru records, because they're starting to sign some really shitty bands, like now all the bands that were on drive thru are all parting, so if anyone from drive thru ever reads this, tell whoever it is in charge of signing bands, look for talent, not for shit, home grown kicks ass, later Pretty good pop-punk CD. I almost completely agree with this assessment, though: THe song when that one guy sings, i hate this record .. the one who sings 'kiss me, diss me' or whatever. but the other guy is cool. Only three good bands on Drive-thru, Finch, Midtown, and Home Grown. This cd could have been better had Adam not singen on almost every song, though in "That's Business" (their first cd) his voice isn't nearly as annoying. back to home grown, they were better when they didn't only sing about girls and had some ska in their music. I had honestly never heard of Home Grown until I saw them on the Drive-Thru compilation CD in 2001. I wasn't really too excited about the stuff they did for it, so I kind of passed it over until I saw the CD pretty cheap and decided that I would just go ahead and buy the thing anyway. I gave it one listen and realized that while it sounds overproduced, contains some very stupid lyrics, and sounds like every other Drive-Thru band, it's an amazingly tight CD. The only thing I could ask for was that they get rid of the guy who sings vocals for "Kiss Me Diss Me" and all those other songs that follow suit - he's ridiculously untalented and should abandon all his mic duties completely. It ruins the entire album. Now I can tolerate crap like Bowling for Soup and other silly pop-punk, but shit - you couldn't pay me to sit through those songs. I have one word to say OVERPRODUCTION they were so much better back in the time of act your age and that's business. but they're on drive-thru which is all emo/screamo bands that all suck and sound the same. im a pretty big homegrown fan. i thought this cd wasnt as good as their other ones, but i still like it. i wish they didnt sign on drive thru tho. i like most drive thru bands but for gods sake how many more albums are they gonna make where every damn song is about relationships? anyway theyve always had a few songs about relationships, but they were more proportionate with songs with other topics. eh, i guess its just the dtr curse. but allister, tsl, rxbandits, and finch kick ass. and my shit also smells like shit. shit farttttttttttttsssspoooooooooooooooooppppeeeeeeeeee!!! I forgot about the extra songs those are hilarious the mock rap techno and acoustic songs. Damn those are funny! This album is good at best. This the only one of theirs that I own but it could use some work. the best is their opener. it's catchy. what worrys me is that some of their songs sound like mxpx and that's not a good thing. Fuck you guys Homegrown is awesome. Thats all i have to say ya know, i really like homegrown, i really do. i think this album is a downgrade because they can do SO much better work. there are a few catchy songs on here. i also like the opener, and cannot stop the world, but sounds change with every new album and homegrowns sound has really changed over the years. none the less, they put on a fucking awesome show. its not a horrible cd, its just not great. I've been a Home Grown fan for a really long time. Just to add, people who say Home Grown copied from others is dumb. They've been playing just as long as Blink 182 and if you've been keeping up with their old albums, their sound is one of the most original sound in the genre. I'm not saying that Home Grown is the most talented band but they have really catchy songs, especially from Act Your Age. If you don't like Home Grown, listen to Act Your Age, and maybe you'll change your mind. my shit smells like shit, i request no one attepmts to handle my shit. My shit isn't lame. It's hip and exciting. How can you say this is one of the best cds ever? I think that statement should be reserved for bands that are groundbreaking or if a cd changes the music scene. This band is far from doing either of these, not only that they are a simple three chord pop punk band that just copied the many that came before them. this cd is straight up pop punk. unlike most of you idiots who can only poke fun at cds like this, i think this is one of the greatest fuckin cds ever. no im not 14 nor a big fan of blink 182. they should discontinue the comments section on reviews because its full of idiots TRYING to sound punk rock or whatever, those are the kids who think they have to act a certain way to be recognized. so fuck everyone because youre lame as shit o, and not a 10, a 1 Just the same shit over and over again...1. This isnt Punk2. Lyrics and music = Generic shit3. Why do people still listen to musci like this I don't like much pop punk but Homegrown deffinately put on the best live show that I've ever seen a pop punk band do. I'll be checking them out agian at this years warped tour I remember those days when Home Grown were one of the big ska-punk bands, I heard this contains no ska whatsoever. I'll still see them play at Warped LA onn Thursday at 6 pm though cause their funny guys have no fear they did get a new guitarist... if you check them out on the warped they will be playing as a four piece... album was okay and "adumb" always wrote the better songs "she said..." (off of their first album) comes to mind. Good Album Horrible live just like blink on the pop diaster tour greenday should have headlined that show! what? and now you are 15, scott? this band is utter crap. well, i'm a long time homegrown fan, but i can't say theyre one of my fav. bands or anything. this album is def. their best. i kinda miss the ska punk shit they used to do, like most ska punk outfits they abandoned it completely (suicide machines comes to mind quickly to). they are now straight up power pop punk.the lyrics arent phenomenal but their better than their old albums where the lyrics were god aweful. jonny does the funny lyrics, the other dude does the serious ones. but live they suck. they get to drunk, try to be blink and tell jokes. even blink sux when doing this.only nofx should tell jokes onstage.they need a lead guitar. they can't sing very well out of the studio eithre. this album has its few weak songs, some filler, but about 7 really strong to awesomem, especially the first 5 songs on the album, if u are a fan of pop punk ala nfg, blink(track six sounds like somehting from dude ranch) type stuff.def. their catchyest material, but haters of pop punk and drive thru should stay away, but i guarantee they'll quickly fill this board up w/ their 2 cents why poppunk and drive thru sux, like anyone interested in the new homegrown cares "homework, homework, homework. you GOTTA do your homework" homework, homework, homework. you GOTTA do your homework. Home Grown is a 3-piece band and there's not 1, but TWO vocalist, which could be a reason why you like some songs, yet hate others. Johnny (the guitarist) who sang a little graspy in their earlier material decided to sing clean in this CD and it didn't really work out for him, the songs he wrote and sang were tracks #2, 4, 7, 8, 10 & 11 (in my opinion the weakest tracks). But the other tracks (1, 3, 5, 6, 9 & 12) are a lot stronger, more thought out, and just musically stronger coming from the 'talents' of the bassist Adam. He wrote 6 tracks (the stronger tracks that are awesome) and Johnny wrote the other 6 (full of bad lyrics and bad singing). all in all, even though I'm not the reviewer I TOTALLY enjoyed this disc, though not worth the wait, it's a good buy. What they need is a new drummer and a 2nd guitarist...but hey, what I say doesn't really matter in the long run. Why do so many reviews contain the line "when I first listened to this CD I didn't know what to expect" or something to that effect... I could have sworn they were a ska/punk band at one point..... I saw homegrown when they opened for millencolin(which Thursday opened for both bands, whick should not happen) and they were horrible. They tried being funny more than they tried to play, which reminds me of an another terrible pop "punk" band, blink 182 As the pop goes on- this site should be called pop news.org I liked them when I was 14. i hate homegrown... terrible live band, terrible band... thats just my two cents |
