I'm quite aware that this album has already been reviewed, but I was looking through the list of reviews I have written for this site, and they have all been positive. So, it is time to do a negative review, and I figured my first would be dedicated to MXPX's debut album, Pokinatcha. Please login or register to post comments. yea the recording is not that great... big deal? you have to start from somewhere and it was their first album... not to mention that they were still like 15 or 16. Besides, they got better. and they might not be the poorest band out there, but they definetly don't make "piles of money." but thats ok if they did, like the guy that posted below me said. they've worked hard enough. and anyway you look at it, they are still better off than you are now. so quit bitching. this review wouldn't have been so bad if it were unbiased. Hey if you dont like the band then just keep your opinions to yourself okay? And if your going to be trash talking on the internet then i think you have a little issue. Im sorry to say this but come on people fighting over the internet whats the use of that, to look cool? Fighting over the internet is like competing in the special olympics... Even if you win your still retarded. You truly are an idiot and an asshole. Mxpx has worken so hard to get where they are today, harder than you can ever imagine. THEY ARE NOT RICH AT ALL, like you claim (although you dont know them at all). How can a band that has only had one gold album in their 11 year career be rich? Idiot. They tour ALL THE TIME and have never gotten any breaks for anything. And by the way, they still travel in a van. You really dont know a single thing about mxpx, you're just making shit up. Well Personally I hate god. i fucking despise jesus. and i fucking despise MXPX too. and conservatives. how about that. we're getting a little trend going. who the fuck gave u 5 bux for this!!! this album is shit. i used to like mxpx too int he old days of not knowing any poppunk bands but blink and greenday. they were one of the frist i got into, and i like their later material more, but i just can't listen to it anymore. it was different in 97 though. i liked it then. fuck this shit i care I just think the comment about wearing a Bad Religion cross shirt at Cornerstone is funny because I've been there semi-regularly for 7 years now and every year I see at least one person wearing one. Nobody cares. how convienent then that mxpx plays down the similiar vein as both blink and nfg, huh? fucking little troll. yo dude: you r gay. i don't listen to much christian music but there are a few decent bands out there. Stairwell and Two thirty eight are both great bands, if you like bands like taking back sunday. See, there is alot of punk rock that sucks. It is just that since 'christian' punk rock is not as prevelant, more 'christian' bands get signed because they have the option of being on a christian label. That is why you hear so much crappy 'christian' punk rock. So it is much more accessible than your average local band that sucks. First off, I think HUEY wrote all this nonsense because HUEY wanted a big response. It makes a lonely person feel good doesn't it. Almost like someone was actually speaking to you. If MXPX says 'hey god' they become preachy christians. Does that make bands like pennywise and anti flag who say 'overthrow the government, f*** America' terrorists. That seems like quite a feasable analogy. MXPX doesnt mention God 1/4 as much as those bands mention politics and other dumb crap like that. you don't hear these bands being called terrorists. I do like pennywise though. Back to the album, it is their worst to date. And talent, Yuri is sponsered by Pork Pie, paiste and Vic firth (or a similar company). You should come back here and tell us about all the companies that sponser you because you are good. (Pentium, Lazy boy, Doritos) Oh yeah that's right. I forgot about all those great songs you've written. What record label are you on again. Fantasy records. Or is it 'Hey I'm an arrogant jerk with a bad taste in my mouth because my mommy and daddy are to conservative for me' records. The songs sound the same too. How odd to hear of that on a 'punk' record. I thought all punk bands sounded different. My bad i guess. It is good to know that the world is unfair though. You are probably going to get walked all over your whole life w/ a liberal attitude like that. Not to mention your opinions probably don't make you alot of friends or matter. Oh yeah, Star Wick from OZMA is a christian, does that make OZMA another 'hey god' band. I'm sure the song, 'if my amp had wheels' has a deeper meening. haha LONG LIVE FREE SPEECH. I think the reviewer really just wanted to start some shit on his review because basically nobody bashed his views... except me but all i said was i disagree with your standpoint on the conservatives in your town. You make it sound like all conservatives are bad and thats just not true... I also said to disregard my comment/opinion about the whole liberal conservative thing... but you had to make a comment anyway... nobody wants to argue with you... MXPX just isnt important enough. i'd like to go to cornerstone wearing the bad religion crossbuster shirt. christian punk is a fucking joke but mxpx has a few decent songs. They don't do anything christian anymore. Mxpx does in fact play some pretty amazing shows. Every time I see them, they just get better and more exciting to watch. Mxpx are still one of the few pop punk bands I respect from the first day I heard them 6 years ago and to today. Even though I hardly listen to them at anymore, I'd still go see them live and play those old hits that I enjoyed. They still got alot of years ahead of them. there are a couple of decent songs on this album. but nothing really any good. A ten year-old band who's debut (full-length) doesn't suck: Green Day. "1,039/Smoothed out Slappy Hours" is quite the album. Granted, it consists mainly of re-recorded tracks from their EP's, it's an amazing album. mxpx sucks dick, even for reverend rock. Thanks evildeadalive. I liked your review Huey. I think I have the right to comment about the whole religious aspect of this band since it obviously plays a large role, and besides, I was just adding my own personal commentary, as I was trying to allow you to understand what angle I was coming from with this one. The review would have been completely boring and un-entertaining if I hadn't contributed my true opinion of the band and record. So, I gave my complete two cents, and I have no regrets about it. I wasn't trying to pick an argument. However, I was expecting a semi-large backlash to this review. I never said Christians suck. Whoever accused me of that completely mis-interpreted my review. You kids just have to go and pick everything apart and dissect it to the bone. What great critics you are. There are a number of ways I could have written my review, and if you have a problem with the one I chose, then that is fine. You are entitled to that, but don't call me a "moron" or a "bigot" when you obviously had no idea what I was trying to say, or you completely misunderstood what I was attempting to write. Go outside. It's nice out. All I remember is "Responsibility.. Whats that? Responsibility not quite yet, (?????) I don't wanna think about it.." and that completely drove me away from this band. Got to agree... I dont really like MXPX all that much. I find them to bore me a lot of the time. Although their cover of "KKK took my baby away"... simply amazing. I bought life in general when it was like 4.99 at best buy and thought, ok Ill give it a try. I found about 3 songs on it I liked and the rest just had to be skipped over. Of course I dont like this album as much as I "liked" life in general. I do have to agree with our commentors about how his opinion on the religious belief of the band shouldnt have anything to do with his review of the record. Being concervative also isnt neccesarily a bad thing... I know its all punk to be a liberal but I think that there are too many of you shitting on us conservatives wrongfully. Anyway, thats just my 2 cents disregard it and keep commenting on the album.-pat41 I thought reviewers were supposed to be objective. I thought they were supposed to write reviews based on things that actually matter, which does not include the reviewers religious beliefs, musical tastes, or bad attitudes. The reviwer is a total moron. "I'm glad those days are gone, as I have been able to open myself up to more diverse and intelligent bands." i'd like to hear what you wrote at age 15-16, this album is awesome, its only 8 years old now, i guess it must have taken you a long time to write this, eh lol anyways, everyones entitled to their opinion, i like it, i'd like to hear it re recorded, but i doubt we ever see that happen, thats it i hate mxpx, but i dont agree with the "go god" statement. they got kicked off their label cuz they weren't preachy enough. no doubt about it this cd is terrible, but really complaining about how they're popular, and other hardworking bands aren't is just stupid, look at 90% of the music you hear on the radio or see on mtv and tell me they deserve to be where they are. quit crying It was thier first album, and so alot of thier song writing skills would have been worked on alot more. "Life in General" was obviously one of their best albums, and secretly one of my favorite punk albums of all time. "Shhhhhhhh........" And then you say that "ive written better songs" bah Sure mxpx arent that good but i dont think they are "making piles of money". Mxpx isnt that popular. I agree with the reviewer on this one I whole heartedly disagree. This is probably my favorite mxpx album. You gotta love time brings change. I've been a steady follower for years, and although their new stuff pretty much sucks, they've earned my respect and I'll pick up everything they put out |
