To everyone whos interested: I just wanted to say that I don't think he is saying gook. My guess is that he is saying cook or even saying coug, as in short of Steve the cougar, but if anyone was the actual lyrics it would be interesting to know what he is really saying. Either way the album is a lot of fun and now it isn't anything new, but who should complain about that. They are having fun and not trying to change music and failing like a lot of bands out there. Who cares what they sing about? They make me people laugh and people enjoy what they are doing. I personally like the older recording of jacket and I think new wave girl is a great song on the album. Haven't heard it yet but could he be saying goof? Yo this is Josh the reviewer. You can trust me in the fact that I am one of the biggest Nerf fans out there, and while I found the album satisfying because they didn't turn to shit or anything, I wasn't over excited where as it was nothing new. What can you expect from an aging group of guys such as this though. You do have to love the cooky lyrics, and the connotations to high school on this record are far less and far more subtle than the other records. As for My EP the main reason I am not in to that album is the song "love sandwich". It's hands down the worst song they have ever recorded. If I'm not mistaken Defending the Faith is older than the HTMG demos. I could have sworn it was released on Foil Wrapped for Freshness. Regardless Nerf is still great, but repetitive. They know they're not going anywhere whereas they don't tour so they can maintain their respective day jobs. There wasn't too much to say about this record unfortunately. Great tracks include: Welcome to my world, high five anxiety, jacket(re recorded), Kashmere(re recorded), Defending the faith(re recorded), and New Jersey Girl (Nose Ring Girl Ripoff). One thing that shocked me is if you listen closely to the song high five anxiety in the breakdown parry says "just stay away you fuckin' gook". I never figured them to be in to tossing racial slurs around. Oh well. peace and thanks for reading. check my review out...without being a dickhead I can say that it's 99 times better than this one, because it gives you a hint about what this thing actually sounds like. anyway it's on http://www.punkupdates.com err I meant to say Kirby: not Rage: Rage: Gas Huffer kicks ass. how the fuck can you give it four stars you basically said it sucked? kiss ass. rage, To below: sounds just like everything else out there right now in the pop punk genre, but the new vandals album should be a revolution here "Defending The Faith" was not previously released. it was on the htmg demo, which was not released. the general public hasn't heard defnding the faith, so it doesn't really matter. and its obviously going to be different considering the shear crap recording quality of the original. It really says something (bad) about this record that at least three of the songs ("Jacket," "Cashmere," "Defending the Faith") were recorded for the *last* record but were left off because they weren't good enough. Rage, maybe you're thinking of a My Records comp? I was almost positive I had heard one of their songs on Punk O Rama 2 or 3, but I could be easily mistaken because I haven't listened to those comps in a couple of years. Two things. I really love this album. They haven't stopped progressing. Everyone who says that the music and lyrics are simple and would take no time to write, should put up a link to your band. I'd love to hear it. I'd like to see anyone who posts here consistantly write something as catchy, funny and rockin'. From all the comments on the Andrew WK review, I thought a lot more people would be down with good time music. (Not that Nerf Herder sounds anything like that stuff.) is it possible to listen to nerfherder album more than 2 times? I haven't heard it yet, mainly because I don't have the advance rip of it like you guys do. If someone has it and can send it to me, please let me know. Thanks. The first three tracks and last three tracks are definately the strongest on this album, with 'Jenna Bush Army' being the weakest and most repetitive. Overall, I really enjoyed the album having not been familiar with their earlier works other than what was on epitaph comps. I will agree that the lyrics are childish, however I have to disagree with the reviewer, they still write about highschool. Maybe you only listened to the first track which talks about alcohol (which high school kids have NOTHING to do with), but check New Jersey Girl, Jacket, Rock City News, Cashmere. kind of a weak review - no offense, but does punknews just post everything that is submitted, or are there some reviews weaker than this? i'll be in their new video for mr. spock, i think is the name of the song. What was "Defending the Faith" previously released on? |
