Go-go boots and baby dolls. Perhaps not the most obvious choice for a band which creates some of the fastest and angriest punk rock. Produced in part by Ian MacKaye, the CD Version of the First Two Records, helped bring riot grrl and Bikini Kill worldwide mainstream attention. This attention is well deserved. The album opens with "Double Dare Ya,' inviting girls to speak out and voice their opinion, then continues with "Liar" with a familiar chorus of "Liar, Liar/Pants on fire." Despite the lyrical simplicity of some songs ("Liar" and "Suck my Left One") Bikini Kill shows more depth on the bass heavy "Outta Me" and "Feels Blind," with one of the best hooks ever, "in the doorway of demise I stand/encased in the whisper you taught me." The only slow point on the album is "Thurston Hearts the Who," a live rant which helps kill the albums momentum. Also included is Bikini Kill's anthem, "Rebel Girl." While "P. Whipped" is their strongest album, this record completely rocks as well. Such an influential band, it's a shame more people don't know them. Bikini Kill could give Paris Hillton a run for her money Fuck yes this record kicks ass. excellent album - fuck, all their records are great. This album is fucking kick-ass. And while I respect everyone's opinions, I wonder how many of the people that said this album sucks are males. i havent heard the whole album but it deserves the highest score just for being Bikini Kill's. Well, at least it's better than Le Tigre. Kathleen Hanna's a fucking loser Bikini Kill is fucking hard core. A dangerous mix of feminist fury and punk power that leaves may a "punk" band in the dust. This band is as exciting as watching shit dry. Bikini Kill is a damn fine band and scores in my top 5 bands. Kathleen Hanna's screeching vocals demanding equal treatment is just what we needed to hear and no one could have provided it better (well...maybe elanore rosevelt but she's dead and i cant honestly see her her wearing a sports bra with the word "SLUT" inked onto her flesh). |
