I just came from the record store in the mall where I noticed that their stock of this particular cd was nearly depleted; and I thought to myself, "That's great.", because this is a great album that fully deserves to be successful. Dashboard Confessional is Chris Carraba, and his acoustic guitar. A few tracks on this album add bass and drums in, but the majority of the material is just Chris and his guitar. His second album in six months (and Vagrant records debut), "The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most" is an album full of raw emotion captured in his lyrics and songs. Prior to Dashboard Confessional, Chris served as the lead singer for hardcore band Further Seems Forever (on Tooth and Nail), and currently is the much tattooed administrator of an elementary school. Interesting. He has been compared to the likes of Johnny Cash, and Jawbreaker - I'll add another name to the list and compare him to Bob Dylan. Though he lacks the displeasingly nasal Dylan voice, DBC's acoustic songwriting can be likened to that of Dylan: The elaborate storytelling, pouring his heart out to the listener, and bare bones acoustic accompaniment are all Dylan-esque. Only better. Every track on this cd is great but my favorites are "The Brilliant Dance" and "This Ruined Puzzle". Both these songs are great and I never tire of them as I've listened to the daily for over a week. Though, admittedly, the acoustic style did take me a while to get used to, once you get over it this disc gets better and better with each listen. It's an amazing powerful cd, full of raw emotion and great songwriting: rare in todays age of boy bands and fake punkers. It has hardly left my cd player in the last week and a half. Go buy it, there's only a few copies left....

    worst review ever.

you can't compare DBC to Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, or Jawbreaker...well, you can I suppose, but DBC doesn't even come close to any of them.

and calling Further Seems Forever a hardcore band is a fucking joke.

If punk isn't a sound, then Woody Guthrie invented punk way back in the late 30's. He played an acoustic and hated the government.

If it is a sound, it's harsh, loud, sloppy rock and roll. The sloppieness made infamous by bands like Flipper, the Germs, and GG Allin.

rush limbaugh is a fucking nazi. and fuck america or any other country for that matter. im concerned about the well being of everyone not just those of a specific counrty. rush limbaugh is really concerned about our country. the rich white sect of america that is. and im sorry, i've never seen punk as a conservative force. as far as im concerned, punk is the complete opposite of conservatism. so am i gonna blast someone for their conservative beliefs? yeah. im sick of people who try to twist punk into something its not. i guess i can call nsync punk because they are just havin fun and doin what they want. jesus christ, its getting ridiculous. maybe i should try and legalize slavery because it's "totally against the grain" or whatever. fuck off idiots.

"Punk rock is about entertaining and having fun your own way."

...And yet you bash him for being conservative... that's just the way he is. Just because someone's beliefs are different from yours doesn't mean they're wrong. I listen to Rush Limbaugh myself, and dammit, he's what this country needs. Eveybody's so damned politically correct nowadays that we can't see what's good for the country, rather than what can get us out of a discrimination suit.

stop posting books of stuff that nobody is reading. this album is very very dumbed down from his last one. the lyrics make me sick cause they are so juvenile. i like chris, he is a real nice guy and i think he's got a nice voice and an ok ear for music, but this album is lyrically a crime and really shouldn't have been made. on a side note, mike marsh is a really good drummer.

well said my friend. i read the comments you made about dashboard after i stated that "you're not funny", so that's why it may have sounded hypocritical. I really don't take review records very seriously. I just sit down, type it all out at once, and when I'm done I'm done. no editing, no erasing, i just type for fun. by the way, i'd love to see that video. by the way again, go read my Jets to Brazil reviews if you want some entertainment. most people found them really funny, i think. i hopei have cleared things up a little.

you must really hate afi. I've only heard a few scattered songs other than the all hallows ep, but they were pretty good. their live show sucked my ass. it sounded like shit and they tried way too hard to be scary. i hate dashboard confessional. read all my thoughts on him way below.rock on larry.- fathead

    My Score:

    Dear fathead,
I feel honored that you have acknowledged that I have made you laugh by saying this conservative idiot is indeed a conservative idiot. However, you have also said in many other reviews that I should "shut the fuck up" because I'm "not funny". At first I just shrugged it off, but then it really started to get under my skin. It's all I could think about; at work, at home, out at the shows. It got to the point where I just couldn't sleep at night. I tried everything from warm milk, reading until my eyes were so heavy that I just couldn't bare another second awake, and yes, even sleeping pills. Nothing worked. At last I finally came to terms with the fact that you are a hypocrite because there's no way I could make you laugh at one moment and then just be "not funny" the next. I did a little research and discovered that you had done an AFI review. Damn fine review too, if i do say so myself. I personally did the same thing on September 11th. Just not with AFI. The only reason I didn'[t just break down that sad day was Thursday's 'Full Collapse' (kind of an ironic name under these circumstances). It's the only thing that got me through the rest of the month, also. So, you see, we are very much alike, and as they say, "birds of a feather flock together". The only difference is that you seem to take these reviews a lot more seriously than I do. Hey, I can understand that. I have serious hobbies too, but where do you draw the line between serious and too serious? This site is not only for information but also entertainment. Punk rock has always been first and foremost about having fun your own way. The sky is the limit. So when some friends of mine and I hoisted the jolly roger up to the ceiling at my place of employment, that's kind of what I had in mind. Imagine arriving at work tomarrow to see a pirate flag hanging from the ceiling, way out of reach. They'll never be able to get it down. We came up with a system that is fool proof and leaves no ropes to lower the flag. And all the while we were dressed in pirate attire, blasting the theme to 'monkey island'. Oh, and we video taped the whole thing. That's just one example of taking something like a job, that could stand to be a little more entertaining and pushing it to its full potential. Later tonight, one of the employees got a call to say that his wife had had a miscariage. Do you see what I'm getting at? You take these reviews so damn seriously when it should mostly be entertainment. There are much more serious things going on all around you, like AFI sucking. They seriously suck and you know it. Oh well. One of these days I'll make it down to Lexington to visit. I haven't been to Kentucky in years. I almost went to Krazyfest this summer but didn't have enough cash. So expect to see me soon.

    Love,

I think the main influence for this CD was Melissa Etherage or the Indigo Girls. Oh yeah, and this album sounded like someone taught Carson Daily to play the guitar, and then pinched his nuts and told him to sing. And as long as this is considered punk, maybe some of you drones should pick a Simon Garfunkel record and hear some REAL punk rock. I'm gonna go put my pants back on.

I left with a bitter taste in my mouth.
