How can any Punk site exist without paying tribute to the founding fathers. The pursuit of punk rock education must include this. Along side the Ramones, and a little later, Iggy and, er, what was that band called...the Sex Pistols led the way. And Jonny Rotten is still whining about it. Sid barely played in the recording of this album - some say not at all. Mr. Rotten sqealed and yelled and complained, and the result was punk ecstasy. So, those of you out there judging bands because they can't play worth shyte, well, you should know that it's all part of the tradition. Some music is good, some sucks, chances are if all you can do is play well enough to impress the trained ear that your music belongs in the latter category. Virtuosity breeds ignorance... punk and ignorance are not good bedfellows.

Wow. I don't know why i come to this site lol because every time I find a record there has to be a bunch of people shitting on it for stupid reasons and I knew that " Hey let's see if anyone shits on The Sex Pistols. They're the godfathers of punk and this site is called ' punknews.org ' and no one can shit on the pistols " but I was wrong. Absolutely NOBODY should be shitting on this album.

i know this is a bit late and all, but to the ramones fans paying out the sex pistols for being "sell outs" or poseurs, um, did you ever see that movie rock 'n' roll highschool. Hehe, ramones are a joke...granted, a good joke, they make me laugh...hard

Anonymous (November 5, 2004)

Man, along with The Clash debut, this is the best punk rock record ever. And is a pity that american critics, as self righteous as ever, consider the Ramones debut as the true landmark of punk, the first, the punkest, etc. I say that i like a lot the Ramones, and their first album is a landmark of rock music, but Never Mind The Bollocks fucking stands out. If amateurish playing and bad sound quality are punk signals, then Ramones Lp is punker than Pistols', but the truth is that songs like "Bodies", "Seventeen" or "God Save the Queen" are much more agressive, musically and lyrically than the Queens' quartet. The Ramones debut talks about pop culture, horror films, and being an adolescent, the Sex Pistols talked 'bout being fooled by the government, nihilism, being upset with the stupid monarchy and stuff.

Anonymous (October 25, 2004)

I'd just like to add that while Sid did contribute rumbling bass noise to Bodies, it was taken out in production because it didn't sound good.

Glen was the bassist on NMTB... In the end, Sid had nothing to do with it.

Potatish (October 25, 2004)

Isn't it just fantastic that so many people know so little about such an outstanding band? The main review for this album is ultimately a put-down to how great it is. And some of you fuckers below should really read up on this group... You know far to little about them.

I love the Pistols, the Ramones, and the Stooges. Yet, the Pistols were the first truly Punk Rock band. The Stooges were Glam. The Ramones were Pop without brains. The Pistols were raw energy... Powerful and confrontational.

Something extraordinary about this album is that every song means something. Holidays In The Sun is an account of a terrible vacation in Berlin. Bodies is a shock joke about a mentally ill girl from Birmingham that would wind up at Steve Jones' doorstep from time to time. No Feelings is about Teddy Boys and the lot who have just that --- No Feelings. Liar was directed at McLaren. God Save The Queen was, well, you all know that one. Same goes for Anarchy In The U.K., as well as Seventeen and Pretty Vacant. New York was a put-down of the New York scene, mostly of the Dolls and their claims of being the "originators" of Punk. EMI, well, was a message to... EMI.

It's just ludicrous to say something like "The Velvet Underground started Punk!!". Everybody knows they were Beatnicks. And everybody knows that the Stooges were an amalgam of Glam and Garage Rock. Same goes for the New York Dolls. I'm really getting fed up with these Nu-Age posers and their jealousy of the Pistols.

However, that jealousy is well-founded. The Pistols could out-play any Punk band at the time, and they can out-play just about any Rock band today (Jones and Matlock are outstanding when live). It's funny that you turds start insulting a band that died 26 years ago because they could out-play your Nu-Age shit.

Never Mind The Bollocks, This Album Gets A Ten.

all you assholes need to fucking chill. everyone from the 14 year olds wearing operation ivy t-shirts claiming the sex pistols weren't punk and were sell outs to all the bitter old english blokes who keep saying the ramones and the stooges were in no way punk. who gives a fuck who started what and when? god this argument is so petty and pointless. we're all on the same side. punk was never about devisivness and separation which is all i see today. it was about living the life your way, about not having some asshole telling you what's right and wrong. it was about having fun and taking rock music back from the disco days. it wasn't about who was more talented and who can be more technical and who can be faster or who can be more outrageous. jesus christ you people can be juvenile.

I've decided that Chinatown is either

a) flamebait loser

b) boy with horrible taste in music. But yeah guys, for telling everyone to "check out Dischord" (wow, novel idea!), he seems oblivious to the fact that Ian MacKaye was a Sex Pistols fan, and even covered songs thinking they were Pistols songs.

enlgish people have a hard time swallowing that theyu didnt invent punk i dont understand why its just people were on in the same no matter what REGION we are from. its all bullshit all of this mindless squabbling has to end. Complaininga nd inventuing things up in your mind cause youre angry about it isnt gonna change the truth about the ramones and s.p. Pride is irrelevant. from either side. I know an english girl and her and her friends are starting a ramones cover band in the UK just for fun..they have the right attitude about it all what about everyone else? The clash were influenced by the ramones...if you look at every punk band when it was founded it was all difefrent NOT a steriotype you know why? because punk is making it what you make of it its honest individualism NOT BITCHING!!!!

Anonymous (October 3, 2004)

LMAO ..gotta love pistols worshippers lol for opening their mouths without thinking as usual. I like the pistols i do but they didnt invent punk rock music. there was alot of sibling bs rivalry in punk which is unfortunate. Th ramones invented punk rock music/subculture...it was around before the pistols sorry guys. McCLaren saw what was going on at cbgb's and brought it over to the uk and by the way punk in the uk DIDNT AT ALL "explode" untill the ramones toured there in 76' it was starting there but when the ramones toured the facillitated the movement joey even said it himself. witha smile i might ad. all you retards who like to bark aboutw hat punk is and what it isnt are MISSING TEH WHOLE FUCKING POINT!!!! of being yourself and expressing who you are honestly. Punk is not about anything ELSE! and it certainly isnt about putting on an act to be cool just like everything else Dr sex pistol. and BTW anarchy in the UK was NOT written about anarchy it was written because they were angry about how boring it was in england!!!!!!!! and johnny didnt have anything against the queen HE SAID SO! so all of you people who live in a waythat takes this too seriously are just tools of media and MR mcCLaren!

i hate most the people on this. I stumbled upon it when looking for a sex pistols cod piece. You are all dumb fucks if you think that the stooges and the remones created punk and pistols didnt. Stooges were hardly what I would call punk man, remones either, they had that kind of feel to em but fuck all to back it up. Im from the south of England and i know what punk is. Punk isent from the usa what so ever. i faking hate how you dickweeds decide to claim everything. punk is British it started in London. Same goes for metal. Sabbath are fm Birmingham a shit hole in England. What most of you fucked up emo fags in denial think of punk is, is eather... just pinked up emo or pop rock. Little of your shitty music has next to nothing in the way punk in it. 'pop punk' is the biggest pile of shit in the world.... when did pop come into punk? How is punk about crying over your girlfriend and righting the same lame song over and over again. The funny thing is that this will not even get threw to any of you and im wasting my time. ur prolly still all gonna be singing along to story of the year and blink 182 calling your self a hard assed punk rocker. punk evolved but not into that shit that u all listen to... punk got faster and stronger (GBH, The casualties ect...) most music to come out of America is a bloody festering nightmare... for example: emo, nu-metal, 'pop' punk, country and western. The best thing to come out of America was the grunge scene and the trash metal stuff like metallica and megadeth. im not dissin america btw im just saying that most (not all) of u sad fuckers have no clue about music or categorising. To you who know about the pistols and the clash and know where punk started and know how everything came about.... you all obviously have IQs over 22. The rest of you can lick my fucking hairy ball sack.

Rant over...

Leave it to an asshole defending the Sex Pistols to call a guy a poser. Who cares about those myths. They're a shitty band. Being punk doesn't mean you're talented. Idiot.

Most of the people who bash the Pistols need to get educated before they start preaching. If it wasn't for them, punk rock as we know it wouldn't exist.

Myths:
1. They were manufactured and put together like a boy band: This comment cracks me the fuck up. Steve Jones and Paul Cook had a band long before Malcolm came in : Remember The Swankers.
2. They were tools of McClaren to sell his t-shirts: Yes, all the clothes were from his shop, but Malcolm never controlled them, he ripped them off left to right. The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle film ring a bell.

The Sex Pistols are the godfathers of punk rock. They defined an era, and thank god they happened when they did. Sure they were only together for 2 1/2 years, but they changed the face of popular music. Never Mind the Bollocks was and still is the best punk rock album of all-time: "Anarchy in the U.K." and "God Save the Queen," are timeless punk rock anthems. So fuck all you 16-17 year old mall punks, who hate the Sex Pistols, and take your heads out of yours asses, The Sex Pistols are still the best punk rock band of all time.

Quote Liam Ghallager (spelled wrong) from Oasis: "The Sex Pistols were the boys really, compile any greatest hits albums by The Clash, and it wouldn't be worth a wank next to Never Mind the Bollocks."

The Sex Pistols fucking rock, I had the chance to see them in Boston over the summer, fucking fantastic show, and the Dropkick Murphy's, who I respect and like, fucking sucked in concert.

Other great punk rock bands: The Dead Kennedys, The Clash, The Pogues, Crass, Conflict, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Fear, Flogging Molly, G.B.H. and many more.

Anonymous (May 14, 2003)

I'm getting fucking sick and tired of reading bullshit about The Sex Pistols on the net. Like them or not, they were one of the most seminal punk bands of all time.

Myths about The Sex Pistols

1. They were manufactured and put together like a boy band: This pisses me the fuck off. The Sex Pistols were not fucking tools of Malcolm McClaren. Steve Jones and Paul Cook had a band long before McClaren came into the picture. Don't listen to that bullshit movie The Great Rock and Roll Swindle.

2. They were in just for the money and were their to promote Malcolm Sex boutique: They were fucking ripped off left and right by McClaren. Malcolm took the bands royalities to finance his stupid film. That's why they took him to court in 1986 and sued him for back royalities. The Sex Pistols were not a fucking gimmick to sell t-shirts. The Clash were also connected to SEX, they were managed by Bernie Rhodes a friend of Malcolm and SEX employee. The Clash signed to CBS, while The Sex Pistols were kicked off two record labels, who sold out first; The Clash.

3. They couldn't play their instruments: Steve Jones was a great guitarist, Paul Cook a good drummer. Anyone remember Glen Matlock; he wrote most of the band's material, with Rotten providing the lyrics.

4. Malcolm wrote all the songs: BULLSHIT!!!!! Malcolm had nothing at all to do with the music, the only time he tired to interfere was with the song "Sub-Mission," yeah Rotten really listened to his idea.

All that aside The Sex Pistols were a fucking great band. Without them the music scene would be very different, and we still be listening to prog rock. I wish people would get informed before they preach. Some of the negative reviews on this site, come from people who don't know a fucking thing about the Pistols. The 1996 reunion tour was not all about money, the Pistols reunited for some unfinished business, they never really ended properly. So, don't buy into any of McClaren's bullshit, it's all fucking lies and bullshit, but then he takes the credit for manufacturing the whole punk movement. Fucking dumbass, and fuck all you Sex Pistols haters.

Other great punk bands: The Dead Kennedys, The Clash, Crass, Conflict, The Pogues, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, The Exploited, Minor Threat, The Adicts, all bands of Oi! punk, to name a few.

Fucking Shitty Punk Bands: Every Single Punk Revival Band; Lagwagon, H2O, NOFX, Bad Religion, to name a lot more. Finally, the fucking worst punk band of all-time, the innovators of shitty pop punk, the band that turned punk into a joke; The fucking Ramones.

Anonymous (April 8, 2003)

YOUR FUCKIN RIGHT I SAID FUCK THE RAMONES. The Ramones fucking blew donkey dicks. All their fucking songs sounded the same, no innovation or intelligence in the lyrics. The Sex Pistols were fucking for real, they sang about anarchy and dissing the queen. They were banned all over England for christ sake. Joey Ramone made a stupid comment about how they were a so called t-shirt band. The Ramones were there just to promote CBGB's, and that horrible arsty punk of the New York scene. Oh!, buts that's the thing, New York was the birthplace of punk rock, BULLSHIT!!, those motherfuckers didn't sing or have any type of messages in their songs at all. The Sex Pistols along with The Clash paved the way for countless political bands like one of my all-time favorites The Dead Kennedys. So yeah fuck the Ramones and fuck you, The Sex Pistols fucking rule, you fucking poser. This also goes out to Zak, I hope you don't think I don't know nothing about The Sex Pistols, because I know a shit more about them than you do. But, I appreciate the response, most of these fuckers on this site make of bullshit reasons for hating The Sex Pistols.

Anonymous (April 1, 2003)

Man, you said fuck the Ramones. What were you thinking? The Sex Pistols did not invent punk rock, they merely got onto a good thing at the time, and added their own angry twist to it, they didn't invent it, and sure they helped pave the way for a lot of bands, but they weren't the only one. But man, you said fuck the Ramones, and thats just wrong.

Anonymous (March 11, 2003)

The best things about the Pistols
1. Never Mind the Bollocks: possibly the best punk rock album of all-time
2. Johnny Rotten: The godfather of punk

Never Mind the Bollocks is a fucking excellent album. Back in 1977, The Sex Pistols were a threat to the very way of English life. Some record stores even refused to stock the album. Classic punk rock anthems like "Anarchy in the U.K.," "God Save The Queen," and "Bodies" still stand the test of time. Oh, but The Sex Pistols are sell-outs. BULLSHIT! They were ripped of left and right by their manager. Malcolm cheated the Pistols out of everything, that is why they took him to court in 1986. He swindled the Pistols to make his stupid film "The Great Rock N' Roll Swindle." A film about how he was responsible for the whole punk movement, and that he manufactured the Pistols. That movie is complete bullshit, why do some people think that movie, is what the Sex Pistols were about. The Filthy Lucre Live tour, was about making money, but the Sex Pistols admitted to it everytime they were asked about it. They were also fucking in their forties. They don't care what people think of them. I'm Iain, and I say FUCK ALL YOU SEX PISTOL HATERS,

"They were formed by a manager to promote his boutique. Why? Cause they looked sexy i.e. Sex Pistols."

What an uneducated comment. Have you ever seen a picture of Johnny Rotten, or any other members of the band? And you call that sexy?

And they weren't totally FORMED in the Sex Shop. Steve and Paul had a band, and Malcom said he'd get them a recirding studio if they let him manage them. Yes, they hired Rotten. But not in a "Here's a million dollars, please sing for us" manner.

SO FUCK OFF, ALL PISTOLS HATERS

Anonymous (November 27, 2002)

So its not about any type of message? You have to be an expert guitarist to be in a punk band? BS. That's what punk was all about. Very powerful punk music. Comparing them to Blink 182? Laughable! Rotten was the greatest vocalist of the punk era. The Ramones DID last longer. But did they ever have diversity? If the Pistols went on for twenty more years putting out the same old shit, they would be just as famous. But the Pistols are mostly overlooked because too many Americans think that quantity means quality and that English bands have nothing to say. The people who critisize the Sex Pistols just don't understand the poverty of the poor in England. The Pistols were the FIRST political punk rockers, and every political punk rock band after them sucked, and so did most other punk bands. Why must people act like they're choosing sides? English bands have just as much say as American ones- and often MORE to say. Whos' lyrics are better than PiLs', the Clashs', or Crass'? Certainly not the ones who made Blitzkrieg Bop.

Never Mind the Bullocks is one of the GREATEST albums of all time in any genre.

I just saw the Sex Pistols play at the Inland Invasion 2 in Los Angeles. (A little "Holiday in the Sun" if you will.) They played with the Offspring, Social Distortion, The Damned, The Buzzcocks, G.B.H., X, TSOL, and many, many more. It was the largest gathering of Punks ever!

To those that hate them, I hate to tell you this, but they blew every other band there away. They were as vibrant and vitally important as they were in 1976. They have not lost one bit of their edge.

The playing of Steve Jones(guitar), Paul Cook(drums) and Glen Matlock(original bassist) has never sounded better. Johnny Rotten seems to get angrier every year, and who could blame him...The current state of "Punk" is for the most part a huge fucking joke. Ant the worst part is that most of the shit bands involved don't even realize that they are jokes!!! HA HA HA It really isn't funny!

With a few exceptions, most of the modern bands that call themselves "Punk" have no clue as to what it means. They are projecting an image that was already established long ago. These little "Trust Fund Punks" are not going against the system, and are complacent to sit back and collect the corporate label's fat paychecks. They are wearing Abercrombie & Fitch clothes on STAGE!!!! (Fucking Lame!)

The most angst they ever felt in their life was the fact that "Mummy & Daddy" wouldn't get them a BMW at graduation or they got punch on their tux at prom.
These new guys have no idea what it feels like to be broke, homeless, hungry, and put down. They grew up in a world where people already accepted the idea that we were here to stay and that we were not gonna go away.

True, the Pistols took huge amounts from labels, but only to exploit the labels that had no clue what to do with them. They used it for their own (or at least Malcolm's) purposes.

Bands like Blink-182, (Who by the way, SUCKED at the Inland Invasion 2), New Found Glory, and Green Day would have "No Future."

My prescription for all those that disagree: Take your heads out of your asses, get a clue and shut the fuck up!

Bodies is the best song on that album and Sid DID contribute to Bollocks, but it was only on Bodies.

The Sex Pistols DID invent punk because they couldn't fucking play, it was their thing. The Ramones were a good rock band.

Myths about The Sex Pistols that are totally untrue.

1. They couldn't play their intruments: With the exception of Sid, who at first made a valiant effort to learn the bass, everyone in the band could play. Steve Jones was a great guitarist, and Paul Cook was pretty decent drummer. Anyone remember Glen Matlock, he was the original bassist; and you can bet your ass he knew how to play.

2. They were products of Malcolm and sell-outs. BULLSHIT!, The whole reason why they reunited in 1996 was to obtain the money that Malcolm cheated them out of to finance his movie "The Great Rock N' Roll Swindle." Malcolm used the Pistols to exploit them, he never realized what a great band that they were. By the way The Clash songs can be heard on Levi's and car commercials today.

3. They didn't write one of their own songs: Well then who the fuck did. Johnny Rotten wrote almost every song that the Pistols recorded during their 2 and half years together. He was a gifted songwriter. Malcolm wanted them to compete with the Bay City Rollers, while Rotten wrote about anarchy, abortion, violence, and rebelling against the Queen.

4. They invented punk: Regardless what John Lydon says the Pistols did not invent punk. The Velvet Underground, New York Dolls, The Stooges, and The Ramones came before the Pistols, however they revolutionarized a whole punk movement in Europe at the time.

5. They are overrated: BULLSHIT!!! The Pistols have inspired many bands to this day. Their back to basics music influences many of your garbage punk bands of today. Overrated my ass. Their one album is still considered to be one of, if not the best album of punk rock.

Never Mind the Bollocks is an excellent album. It is filled with so much anger and raw energy. This album was never praised for it musical talent, it was the energy of the songs that makes it a masterpiece of the genre. The Sex Pistols are punk rock and singles like Anarchy in the U.K. and God Save the Queen are classic punk rock anthems. What is your problem with old Sid Vicious; it was all about the image, I'll bet that Sid wasn't as bad of a bass player as a lot of people thinks he is. His girlfriend Nancy turned him into a junkie and fucked him up. To all you Sex Pistol haters out there I would love to meet you, and I bet the reasons you give me for not liking them are totally false. Never Mind the Bollocks is and always be one of the best rock and roll albums of all-time, and a true masterpiece of the genre.

Fuck all you haters of The Sex Pistols. How can you sit there and say that they suck. Half the punk that is out right now, bears influence from The Sex Pistols. Hey, fuckheads, Sid couldn't play the bass, that's not him on the album, it was Steve Jones and Glen Matlock. I am a die hard Sex Pistols fan, so fuck off. Stop whining about how you think they are overrated, think they really care. Never Mind the Bollocks, is one of the best rock records of all-time, and it will go down in history as one. Oh, but the Pistols are sell outs, BULLSHIT! The Flithy Lucre Live tour was to obtain the money that they were denied by their manager Malcolm. Who the fuck said Johnny Rotten didn't write those songs, well who the fuck did. All those bands today like Lagwagon, MXPX, etc. all fucking suck, they all the same, stop copying off the Ramones. What punk songs are better than Anarchy in the U.K. and God Save the Queen, stop writing bullshit about The Sex Pistols that isn't true, half the people who like American punk don't understand the Sex Pistols politcs, only The Dead Kennedys, The Clash, and Black Flag are up their with them. So if you hate The Sex Pistols, who the fuck cares, but like them or not they are one of the pioneers of punk rock, and Never Mind the Bollocks is one of the best albums of all-time. So fuck all you haters of The Pistols, listen to all the garbage punk bands of today, they all sound the same. THE SEX PISTOLS FUCKING ROCK!!!!, so fuck off.

The first punk album was "the velvet underground and nico" and the first stooges lp.

fakesmile (July 15, 2002)

and theyre both fuckin awesome

fakesmile (July 15, 2002)

The Ramones weren't along side the sex pistols. They were the first to play punkrock and they've been an influence for the sex pistols. But the Sex Pistols started the punk-revolution...

So this and the Ramones self-titled are the first punkrock records ever...

Anonymous (July 6, 2002)

You people are all confused.
The Sex Pistols were a joke. Malcolm McLaren (manager) wrote it, Johnny Rotten was the comedian, and Sid Vicious was the punchline.
Contrary to popular belief, the Sex Pistols except that moron Vicious knew how play their instruments. The original bassist, who wrte the songs, was fired and replaced by Vicious because he had that "punk" attitude. The Sex Pistols were just a glam rock band using safety pins and leather jackets instead of high heels and make-up. Listen to the New York Dolls. The Sex Pistols totally ripped off of them. They weren't serious about anarchy or anything else. The music is pretty bland and lacks energy too.
They claimed to be the middle finger to the rock and roll dinosaurs of the day (Led Zepplin, Who...). So what did they do 20 years after this album? Reunited as old dinosaurs in a hilarious attempt to get money.
Anarchy in the UK on a major label, ha. Baby, it's all about the $$$.

though my favorite punk bands consist of social distortion, rancid, falling sickness, anti-flag, green day, slaughter and the dogs, and the ramones, my favorite punk rock record is "Never Mind the Bollocks..." This is the greatest record. Every song is geniously written with true witty anarchy. I've never seen a band besides the sex pistols who have stayed true to what they believe. The Sex Pistols are the only true punk rock band, and because they only have one record, "Nevermind the Bollocks..." is the only punk rock album that matters.

another reason why punk is lame...that kid right before me..."fucking with the system". have your parents bought you that new camero you've been wanting? i know it must be hard, your girlfriend just broke up with you and your all mad. lets play a prank on the teacher, yea man fuck the system. - erik

hey dude, have you forgotten your roots. shut up. you fucking nerd. why i dont go out get a mohawk and dye my hair red. oh wait, but i thought punk was supposed to be not caring about what other people think. shit..i should go get some spikes and put them on a leather jacket. now that makes me punk, right? then im gonna go liten to some horrible ass fuck shit music like the sex pistols, my farts can play better then these guys. i like punk, but not un-talented, every song sounds the same, hey im more punk than you shit. go listen to the casuleties you fuckheads. - erik www.magnetichorn.tk

waste_elite (January 7, 2002)

what in the holy fuck is wrong with you guys? forgotten your roots? have you forgotten what punk is?

you guys seem to say that their songs are basic and boring. how stupid are you? sure they sound boring compared to new bands. these guys were around in fuckin '77, when punk was in it's infancy. this music was pretty intense back in its day. and you're bitchin about the music being poorly played and plain? this is fuckin punk rock, not a prog-rock band. punk was made to take music back to its basics, not to make epic pieces of music. as far as i'm concerned, passion is more important than technical skills. ESPECIALLY in punk. some of their live songs show 10 times the energy and passion of some of the supposed "punk" bands of today. oh yeah, and lets say the sex pistols look like crap. i never realized punk was about looking pretty. fuckin idiots. these guys were the first generation of punks, so they didn't have the "fashionable" punk look available today. o yeah, they must suck because they did herioine too. i mean, only about 1,000 great punk bands have done or are doing heroine. all the sex pistols were interested in was fun and fucking with the system. they werent concerned about exploiting punk or anything else. there wasn't even anything to fucking exploit back then. they were THE punk band. so all of you can fuck off. if it werent for the pistols, punk wouldnt be what it is today. and as far as im concerned these guys were the definition of punk. some of you seem to have forgotten what that is, apparently to you it means looking pretty, playing complicated pieces of music, and leading a nice, clean life. what is the world coming to. all the bands you love today wouldn't even be here if it weren't for these guys.

and who cares if they had a reunion. yeah that was for the money, but who cares. they are old and soft now, i support the pistols of the 70s not the 90s. you cant compare the two.

Anonymous (November 21, 2001)

I cannot fucking believe you fucks coming on a punk site and bashing the Sex Pistols so hard. No matter if they were talented or not they inspired every single one of you who calls yourself a punk. Maybe it wasn't them directly but they inspired the bands who inspired you. The Ramones and Stooges were first but you little kids never would have heard of punk rock without the Sex Pistols. Fathead I almost always agree with your comments, but insulting the Sex Pistols is fucking stupid. Like em or not they changed the music world for the better.
And since when has punk been all about the music? If I'm correct it's always been about rebelling against conformity. Don't get me wrong I'm a musician too, I appreciate talented punx, but don't fucking hate those who aren't exactly Strung Out generic shit. How talented were the Ramones?

They didnt start punk, they didnt do anything new at all. They just brought it to the mainstream through publicity stunts. (Though some of the stuff they did and said is quite funny, I'll give that credit) Otherwise the Sex Pistos are one giant contradction. They were formed by a manager to promote his boutique. Why? Cause they looked sexy i.e. Sex Pistols. (Know any other bands that formed like that?) Unlike say the New York bands who formed themselves out of a disgust of mainstream music and a will to change it. Sid Vicious was a worthless junkie, that all. He shouldn't be idolized as god to anybody.
The Sex Pistols did bring punk to its peak, but they're greatly overrated.

Anonymous (October 19, 2001)

yeah, they sucked, which was why they were so good. i can't think of a more classic punk song than "anarchy in the uk." if you've never heard the sex pistols, you can't call yourself punk. they revolutionized it and kicked ass. even my father (the conservative) will agree that they've made punk better.

Anonymous (September 25, 2001)

i can't believe you people on this site that are bashing the sex pistols. they're one of the most revolutionary bands in rock and roll history. They started the punk movement. Ask any true punk fan and he'll tell you the same thing. Shut up.

Anonymous (September 2, 2001)

If were rating this for music, well it pretty much is an awful album, but I'll admit they did help thrust punk into the limelight and inspire many bands, but to say they are the best is just a joke.

Anonymous (September 1, 2001)

i reakon they are the shitest band ever

they are not even a punk band,
they are like some boring gay shit

that guy from london is a fuck head

Anonymous (August 31, 2001)

Good point you got there... They really do love those idiots' hate

Anonymous (August 29, 2001)

The Sex Pistols weren't talented or intelligent, but they made one helluva a great noise. At their worst(which is always)they are still more fucking interesting then any band since 1994. They love your hate more than anything else.

Anonymous (August 13, 2001)

Of course they weren't the only band from england, and there were bands better than them. Bands that even lasted longer and made better albums during the following years. But ask any real punkrocker of today, and no-way will he piss on the pistols the way you kids do. That would be like fucking Oasis saying the Beatles meant nothing to them. A fucking lie! Do you really think Lars Fredriksen would have sounded that great without being influenced by the Pistols? Many bands may claim not to be inspired by them at all and many of them are probably right. But that can't cover the fact that they put out one of rock-historys strongest debut-albums, even though it was to become their last one too.

Anonymous (August 12, 2001)

People act like this is the only band from England, I'd rather listen to the Damned, or the Business, or the Clash.
Good bands.

Anonymous (July 30, 2001)

yeah man, you may have been there in london or whatever, but you still sound like a fucking tool. here is a list of not just great, but unbelievable awesome technical punk bands of today: CHOKE,STRUNG OUT, PULLEY, GOOD RIDDANCE, NOFX, BIGWIG, LAGWAGON, RAISED FIST, ZOINKS! well that's enough for now, but bet your ass i'll be back with some more. sex pistols sucked. it's not about image or shaking up the social standards, the bottom line is it's about the music, and they sucked at it. if you can shake standards while playing even decent music, then props to you. how do you think it makes me feel, being a musician, knowing probably the best known punk band ever completely sucked at music. pissed off!-fathead

Anonymous (July 27, 2001)

Made sure this genre would surivive? The Sex Pistols sucked, no way of changing that fact, they didn't help the punk scene, they thought that punk should've died with them cause they were the end all gods of punk. It's bands like The Clash that made a punk a legitimate music style with actual talent and respect, and it was bands like the Dead Kennedys and Black Flag that preserved punk in the 80's and Bad Religion who preserved punk for the 90's. Fuck the Sex Pistols.

Anonymous (July 9, 2001)

Ahh fuck how you bore me! No, the Sex Pistols weren't a great band and they sucked like pig-shit on stage, (exept for in Trondheim, Norway july '77) But what punk rock band really was/is, techincally good even today? And yes, they were made for one purpose; MAKING MONEY! But remember this; They were there, and you fucking wankers weren't!
I like both The Sex Pistols and Rancid.
Keep in mind that The Pistols, The Clash and The Ramones built the foundations of which todays punk rock bands stand on. So you should all take a little history lesson or two and pay respect to those who made shure that this genre would survive for all those years. The album is great. The songs and the lyrics are also great. And what the fuck do all you kindergarden-fuckheads know of what was going on in London in those days? Look up your books for once, listen to the album and understand what it's about! Learn that even though they were a product of Malcom Mc Corporate Cocksucker Laren, they were for real!

Anonymous (June 28, 2001)

I dont know what is so good about this, if you really listen to it, it sucks. And dont get me wrong i dont like blink or mxpx, i hate those bands, i like real punk bands. But the sex pistols werent that great, their guitar parts were simple, sid could not play the bass at all, and they are just bad. I dont know if it is true but i have heard that they were put together by a record store owner or something, if they did that is really really lame!

Anonymous (May 27, 2001)

Hey guys, lets look like crap, be run by a publicist to exploit the punk movement and, hey! We can stop bye the pawn shop and use the money we didnt spend on heroin and write our whole album before midnight tonite! YEah! IT'll be great! We'll go down in history! You know what would be even greater? If we got a bass player who couldn't play, and he killed his girlfriend, and then himself! Yeah! I can call myself "Johnny Rotten" In the nineties we'll sell out even more for a tour, and I'll appear on MTV more times than Britney Spears, but I'll maintain street cred by saying they suck when I'm on and acting "punk".

To me, one of the Ramones were incredibly more important to punk, and as i am now seeing, the clash were even more so. I cant listen to one clash song without hearing fifteen other bands in it. genius. To me, the best and most influential punk band is bad religion. the only reason: they're still together. they're STILL influencing people. as for the Sex Pistols "Never mind The Sex Pistols-Here's some real talent!"

jockyfa (April 11, 2001)

The Stooges came first...and were broken up almost five years before the Pistols even released an album! Although, "punk" was used first to describe the clients at the London underground clubs in the newspaper... well, according to A&E anyways. Unless you were around in 77-78 for the explosion, I'm guessing you have no idea exactly what the Pistols did do, without intent, for the music scene. It's kind of like Nirvana, they weren't the first, the best, or even close... but they did turn the eyes of the world on to a whole sub-culture.

Anonymous (April 11, 2001)

the sex pistols are overall in every way you look at it a really shit band.

i mean their songs are so boring and annoying. I just don't get their look either, ( the its cool to seem unhealthy, and as if you have aids or some bad sickness look).

fuck the sex pistols they are not a punk band, their a fucking money making machine. fuck anyone who likes them.

long live the CLASH, the real heros of the time and our godfathers of punk.

Anonymous (April 11, 2001)

this cd sucks.get the ramones self titled or the clash self titled or anything by mc5 if you want the roots of punk rock. all the sex pistols did was exploit their look to gain some fame(aka blink 182).wait, i like submission, that's a decent song.
