I'm tired of writing long reviews so for your sake and mine we will keep it short this time folks. The Used is a four piece band, and this is their first full length release on the major label Reprise. They play emotional rock with some screaming added to the mix. As far as I'm concerned their trying to follow in Thursdays footsteps with driving beefy guitar hooks, and calling out vocals that are screaming "emotion." Seemingly effortless lyrics at times fail to really open my eyes, but for the most part there not all that bad. Bad example from the song "Blue and Yellow": "Well you're never gonna find it if you're looking for it won't come your way." I dunno can you say simplistic? Some songs give me an Incubus vibe. I'll let you decide if thats good. Others are reminescent of Finch, Thursday, or Taking Back Sunday. People who liked this also liked:           Please login or register to post comments. So this CD is deffinately better than the first. It's amazing so I don't understand why every one dislikes them so much. *see other album review for full-out rant on this* I avent heard dis album but The used rok!!! just sharp objects alone put them on my top 5, ITS OUR TIME TO SHINE i mean seriously have you seen the video its amazing take it aways video is absolutely CHRONIC they cant be the worst band ever cus all the dancetunes come very far below them. alot fucking worse. i like the used so i wouldnt say they're bad at all I loved it. It beats the shit out of "In Love and Death." "Buried Myself Alive is great. i like this cd, much better than their new one, and better than most of the genre: taking back sunday etc, though it was dishearting to see Bert dueting "The Taste Of Ink" with that fucktard Pierre from that fucktard band, Simple Plan. i love this cd, not only are their lyrics great, simple yes, but they strike a cord in their fans, and isnt that all that matters?? from a live standpoint they arent fantastic but when you record a song wonderfully ( the ones on the cd are what the band deemed 'the best they can do") its impossible to live up to it, i just thank god they dont lip sync, that shit is gay ( oo that was not pc, i mean shitty), they fucking rock and I would have so many of bert's babies, i should have moved to orem long ago! ~m i feel like an asshole. why because im on a site with people saying this is the best album of its genere. dont get me wrong its a good album. but best ever, i cant take this shit nomore. im not gonna list bands that have better releases then the used but come on people. im almost ashamed to even like the same music as you..... This Band really opened me up for this kind of music. There like the godfather of the Emo/screamo genre. best cd EVER. The Used. It is an AMAZING band. Theres a mix of everything in it. This album, id say the only bad song is greener with the scenery. You guys have to see the DVD. And Bert the lead vocalist has an amazing voice. For the dumbass who said that Blue and Yellow was a bad song or so called "simplistic" no maybe they just cant find the message hidden within the songs. like box full of sharp objects. do you get what they mean? ask go ahead. he has an INCREDIBLE voice. Bert... wow hes so good at what he does if your not into it thats up to you. AND IT DEFINATELY DOESNT FOLLOW THURSDAY not at alll! thursdays got the whole emo thing going on you havent heard them enough if you think theyre emo hehe, I enjoy how people classify the used as screamo. I would say they are posing as a pop punk band, who are second rate to good bands like lagwagon and yellowcard. i gave these horribly overrated assclowns a 3 because i was in a generous mood. This piece of shit below doesnt know what hes fuckin talkin about the used is the best band ever...and they suck live this cock-sucker must be retarded they're absolutley amazing live ive seen them 3 times and it just gets better everytime..so everyone ignore this piece of shit below cuz hes a dumb cock-sucker.... as for the guy below keep listening to that good charlotte buddy they're fuckin punk at its finest you dumb bastard this is a horrible band. i've seen em live before and they blow real hard. mediocre screamo band-die motherfuckers, die. stop saying anything. the used are the best band that has ever walked the face of the earth i do not recommend this record at all. horrible band with horrible music makes for a horrible waste of your money. The used is awesome, jimmy eat world=shit. they played in allentown pa when i saw them, and i couldn't stand those pop-punk wannabe's. Listen to the real shit, The distillers, the casualties, the exploited, global threat, the clash, rancid, nofx, bigwig, etc. i could go on for hours on end, but i won't. Now im not saying that j.e.w. are sellouts cause i don't believe in sellouts, they don't sellout, they just change their views of music. later Hey, Well that was pretty ignorant. Your the moron. As for these people saying Taking Back Sunday has a bad live show well I saw them in Boulder at the Purgatory show and let me tell you they were not bad. In fact the lead singer Adam swung the mic around like a fucking maniac. So much energy. So much effort. And so many stupid people that probably havent even seen them live and just say they suck to say something. Oh and for the moron below me they may be good musicians (which they arent the greatest) but ITS ALL BEEN DONE. At least TBS has some original elements added to their music. -Rock you are fucking all insane! shittiest shit that ever did shit. that is my opinion of this entire band. the singer is a fucking edgebreaker. needs his face broken. fuck all of these utah fruits. This is a mediocre album. Everyone's always comparing the Used to Thrice and Thursday and Taking Back Sunday and whatnot...but they sound a lot like Finch to me, more than anything else. This cd is so fucking good. I don't know what you are talking about. This is a good band with decent songs. Reminds me of Thursday, but so does everyone these days....Taking Back Sunday fucking sucks on cd and live. Listen to Thrice if you like this harmonic hardcore. Also listen to At The Drive-In and Sparta for some real music......If you want good hardcore, the best band in the fucking world is Refused. Shape of Punk to Come is the best CD ever. well first of used sucks pretty bad. they got way to trendy for me. used was decent back when they were just used not the used. plus as they got trendy there music calmed down i got there cd at one of there earlyer shows and there songs were way more hardcore. SO FUCK THE USED I think s/he said CREAM your pants, not crap your pants. PS - The Used sucks ass I was disappointed with this cd. It starts out fucking awesome with that first song(probably the best song on the cd) then it slows down with the second, then picks up a little for a couple more, then gets slower, and on and on. I love the screaming, but I hate the slow songs. At some points this band has me all pumped and ready to run through walls, but then they get all slow and make me want to fall asleep. HAHAHAHA your a moron! Of course I am talking to the guy who says that Thrice isn't THAT talented, that they just throw guitar solos in their music and we crap our pants... HA! Once again, YOU'RE A MORON! This CD is pretty good. It reminds me more of Finch style-wise than anything else. TBS and Brand New don't sound the same and neither does TBS and the used. Obvious comparisons can be made with the screaming and shit, but to say it sounds like Thrice or whatever is a real stretch. Although most of these bands can fall into the same kind of catagory they're all still pretty original and not carbon copies of other bands. Like all the mini NFGs out there. Eat shit. I listened to this CD then I put it in the trash can. Total waste of $$$, it wasn't for me at all. Whatever. I love Thursday, Thrice, TBS and other mello-core bands. exhaustra, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. thrice makes the used look like assclowns. please, i beg you, show me a used lyric close to as good as a thrice lyric. show me a guitar line as good as a thrice guitar line. show me where the used guy can sing better than thrice. i'm not here saying thrice is better than everyone, i'm just saying that the used don't come close. Um, you have it all wrong. First off, The Used are boring, second of all, Taking Back Sunday are one of the best bands to surface lately. Third, the reason they have the same lyrics is because Brand New's song "Seventy Times 7" was written about John from TBS, so he and Adam wrote "There's no 'I' In Team" in response, and use the lyric "Best friends means friends forever" from the Brand New song. And a far as the "tell all the english boys you meet" thing, Adam just throws it in there to mess around, The did it when they played "The Ballad of Sal Villinueva" live in oklahoma city recently. Despite all the things that happened, TBS and Brand New are still really good friends, obviously. Oh, and Brand New aren' ex-TBS. If anything, TBS is ex-Movielife, well, just one member. Actually i think Brand New and TBS sound somewhat alike. They use each other's lyrics... in There's no I in team, you can hear in the background a lyric from Brand New's song Seventy times 7; and in a new TBS song that they play at shows, they use the "Tell all the english boys you meet" thing in that too. Its weird... but I mean, Brand new is ex-TBS so i kind of understand.. Taking Back Sunday and Brand New sound nothing alike. Whoever wrote this review must have been gravely mistaken... The new Taking Back Sunday? WTF?!!! How do the two even compare? In my honest opinion I'd rather be spending my 12 bucks on this album. Besides that if anyone is mediocre it has to be Taking Back Sunday. I mean if you took songs off the Brand New record and threw them somewhere in the Taking Back Sunday album you might not be to tell the differnce. I've seen both these bands live and The Used happens to be the more reputable band. They deserve to be on a label like Reprise. trendy trendy trendy/it just aint for me/gimme 77 punk and ill be/happy I've seen the used play countless times.. Whoever wrote this review is full of shit. listen to the record next time jackass. thrice is infinitely better than this band. I'd like to see the used even try to play a thrice song from start to finish. you are all fucking idiots. THE USED are the best new band around. fuck thrice, fuck taking back sunday, and especially fuck thursday...they are all FUCKING CLOWNS compared to these guys. good reviews are better than bad ones. Long reviews are better than short ones. Well I heard two songs by them, and i really like. Who cares if their following in the footsteps of Thursday. At least their following a good band. If it wasnt for Deftones, we wouldnt have Glassjaw. And would please stop with the Thrice everywhere! It's not the only band out there. Their pretty good but their not god. I really dislike Taking Back Sunday, really I do. I don't think they sound anything like Thrice or Thursday, just kind of a mix between BRAND NEW and RUFIO with more of an EDGE. But, in the end, I dislike them very much. there is cds out there by thrice, tbs, thursday, etc. that is better than this one. my dumb girlfriend likes the song "box of sharp objects", what a load of shit, that is a horrible song if I've ever heard one. Everyone should just listen to some Thrice and the world would be a better place. |
