Southern California is renowned for continually producing some of the best punk rock and hardcore bands on the scene today. Atreyu will change your perception of the emo, hardcore and punk scenes from this area.

Atreyu is that squalid piece of yourself that you conceal, deny and cover. Hailing from Orange County California (Taken, Thrice, etc), their latest full length “Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses” pioneers new directions for the world of melodic hard rock to follow. They make metal more accessible, emo more painful and haunting; with a powerful foundation that screams “hardcore”.

"Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses" shows a true progression in not only the band’s personal taste, but their musical capabilities. Atreyu’s earlier releases were characteristically more punk hardcore than their latest efforts, having added more melodic metal qualities to their style. The drum and guitar work on the album have a clean and distinct sound without losing that rough around the edges ‘post-hardcore’ feel, which can be attributed to the album’s excellent mixing and production. The lyrics reveal the lead singer’s innermost thoughts and feelings about love, loss and everything painful.

Some excellent tracks to check out: ‘Ain’t Love Grand’, ‘Someones Standing on my Chest’ and ‘Tulips are Better’. This is a great CD, whether you prefer metal, post-hardcore or punk-hardcore, everyone will be able to appreciate this album.

    My Score:

It's an ok CD. Fun breakdowns, but not much substance.

the reason that people bash this band is the same reason people bash 18 visions cuz its shitty chugga hardcore thats all about fashion and being "deep" and writting"deep" or "meaningful lyrics" these guys may have some talent but the music they are playing just ruins it and im sorry but there are way better hardcore bands and there were these guys are a flash in the pan, cookie cutter, played out, never should have played this in the first place, hardcore. go listen to curl up and die or countervail.

I agree. If you dont like Atreyu, you can undo my pants and suck my fat cock. I dont get how people who get on here and bash the band I like think there actually doing anything. These are likely the people, tha would be sooo pissed if you even said the slightest thing wrong about their music as well. The atreyu is a super solid band. I ment them at warped tour this year, and not only is their music AMAZING, but they're outstandingly nice guys.

    My Score:

I've been in to Atreyu for well over a year now.The first time I heard Atreyu I wasn't impressed.(I was also 12)But I liked Lip Gloss & Black alright.Months later I decided to burn the cd from my brother.I never really listened to it.Then I found out about The curse.Bought it, loved it.I decided to find this album & give it a try.I loved it.The more I listened to it & read the lyrics & Alex's (the vocalist(screamer) & songwriter)interpretations of the songs the more I loved it.This cd deals with raw emotions.Hate, pain, betrayal, lonliness, desire, love,& judgement. While Alex's raw screams & Brandon's (drummer/vocalist) melodic beautiful voice blare so do amazing guitar riffs. This band is the full package.Even if you don't like their album The Curse you may still be able to fully enjoy this album. And I would encourage everyone to see them live.Great energy, emotion,& they will give you the feeling of unity. They will give words of appreciation and encouragment the whole way through.

BUY THIS CD NOW!SOME OF THE LIMITED EDITION CDS ARE STILL AROUND!GET IT WHILE YOU CAN!!!

This album overtakes any other heavy outfit trying to swirl hardcore and emotionally driven rock in the world. All that has to be said is "Ain't Love Grand"

one of the worst cds ever. i have only heard like 3 songs but i just could not take it anymore. their "screamer" is the worst screamer ever. it sounds like the man is trying to imitate a wolf or something, that or coughing up a lung. this cd makes me want to cough up a lung.

    My Score:

I LOVE THE METAL GUITAR RIFFS ON THIS CD. There two guitarists really show there talent and how the blend in well with the rest of the band. I LOVE THOSE RIFFS. At First I thought the singers voice was a bit too BLEH for my tastes but i've grown to like it. The drummer has a great melodic voice and it adds a great touch to the record. SO BUY THE CD NOW

I happen to really like this album. It flows together well and just sorta hits the spot. It's nothing revolutionary, but not everything can be.

I personally think this is one of the best albums I've heard yet. You people will probably consider that I have bad taste or whatever..like i give a fuck. I think these guys are great. The screamer is pretty bad I must say, but that's not a really big deal. if you disagree with me..then why are you reading this? So you can tell me that i'm such a dumbass and that i have no taste in music whatsoever? if so, do you honestly have nothing better to do?

    My Score:

Great CD, I think I might be the only person who thinks "Ain't Love Grand" is the worst song on the cd. "Lip Gloss & Black" & "Deanne The Arsonist" are, in my humble opinion, the best tracks on here. The guy a couple spots below me is right, any fan of PTW, FATA, or Drowningman should enjoy this cd.

The review seems a lot like the Victory bio, but I'm going to go with "inspiration" rather than "plagarism" if no one objects.

    My Score:

"Southern California is renowned for continually producing some of the best punk rock and hardcore bands on the scene today." I'm sure that, by "today," you actually meant either "fifteen years ago" or "never." It's a common mistake.

good cd, but this person did not write this review, he just took it from the victory records catalog. lol.

    My Score:

    Fantastic CD, mediocre review.

Pretty much this is melodic hardcore/metalcore with a little singing here and there. Fans of Poison the Well, From autumn to ashes, The Hope Conspiracy, and Drowningman take notice...
