A Flock of SeagullsA Flock of Seagulls: A Flock of SeagullsA Flock of Seagulls (1982)Jive Reviewer Rating: 4 Contributed by: JohnGentileJohnGentile (others by this writer | submit your own) Today's punk rock has been broken into sub-sub-sub-genres like blackened grindcore, post-emo skramz and reverse-anarcho-alt-garage-neo-cowpunk. Each of these obscure genres place walls between themselves and everyone else. However, there was a brief moment in time (mostly) in the UK in the early '80.
Today's punk rock has been broken into sub-sub-sub-genres like blackened grindcore, post-emo skramz and reverse-anarcho-alt-garage-neo-cowpunk. Each of these obscure genres place walls between themselves and everyone else. However, there was a brief moment in time (mostly) in the UK in the early '80s, where non-pop music was simply non-pop music. It was entirely possible to hear the Smiths, Bauhaus, Gary Numan, Joy Divison, Gang of Four, Killing Joke, New Order and A Flock of Seagulls all spinning at the same club. there has to be a small time "punk" band out there with a new album that deserves a review more than a fucking flock of seagulls album from 1982. Cool to see this review. Nobody believes me that this is a solid album. listening to this now Gentile and this is not good. I listen exclusively to reverse-anarcho-alt-garage-neo-cowpunk. OMD is the shit. Although I agree this album is vastly overlooked (or at least overshadowed by Score's massive coiff), you really overanalyze and oversell a lot of its traits. This IS one of the finer synthpop albums of its era though, right up there alongside Ultravox and OMD. It's unfortunate that AFoS couldn't maintain it: their subsequent output went from bad to worse in record speed. This site has officially jumped the shark. |
