Roger Miret is one of the largest figures in Hardcore, known for his commanding delivery and incendiary sociopolitical vocals, AF was able to make the entire scene sit up and take notice of NYHC scene. Well Roger is now back again this time with a new band that shows Roger again taking punk in a new direction, only instead of the hardcore his known for, this new band shows him playing with more of a street punk/Oi sound that reminded me a lot of early groups like the Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, Cocksparrer and newer groups like Swinging Utters and Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards. The lyrics on this album range from drinking and partying, to how much work sucks, the life of a punk, and even a love song. The whole album is filled with catchy as hell guitar hooks, sing-along after one listen choruses, and attitude that only a veteran from the mean pits of New York could bring. The album closes with a great cover of Cocksparrer’s classic “England Belongs To Me”, only changed to “New York Belongs To Me” which is my favorite on this disc and worth the price of the cd alone. 3 words :OiOiOi Roger Miret does not suck. Agnostic Front is a fucking classic band with a classic sound. To anyone getting offended by militant agnostic, I think your confused about the definition of agnostic. He isn't a militant "atheist", which would imply that he is positive there is no God. he/she is a milliant AGNOSTIC, meaning not sure what there is. There could be God there could be nothing. Usually people who are agnostic really truly hope there is a God, or at least something. So to be a millitant agnostic is kind of a clever way of saying "Man, I REALLY dont know." So learn what words mean before you attack someone, k? Great Review it has everything a review should have. i'm agnostic too. but the use of militant in the phrase, "militant agnostic" harkens to labels like "militant vegan." and everyone loves a militant vegan. to the person who is "confused by your seeming contradiction" i think what he means is the band is trying to redirect punk back to where it came from instead of the poppy shit were fed everyday. whoops wrong cd. what does this have to do with Roger Miret's cd? To sokk: to the confused reader; i was talking about a new direction for roger, not a new direction in music as a whole. hey mister militant agnostic, spreading your views to willing listeners is okay, but when you choose the militant standpoint, you're no better than any of the other religious fundies. people like that give the other atheists and agnostics a bad name. like how militant vegans make all other vegans seem like assholes by association Very solid album. Best songs are: N.Y. belongs to me, Give em the Boot, Punch the Clock, Screw You, Just us. After a few listens, you'll be singing along. Play it loud! This album is pretty good. I bought it yesterday...definately nothing brand new, but it's good Punk Rock, something that's actually sort of hard to come across these days. To the guy below: I'm confused by your seeming contradiction: he's "taking punk in a new direction", yet it reminds you of "early groups like the Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, (and) Cocksparrer"? You follow this up by saying: "This album is nothing groundbreaking or new, but when you can play punk as good as this why bother." oy vey Hell yeah... Yeah this stuff is pretty damn cool. I am not the biggest fan of oi but I liked this. I guess I am a little prejudice because the guitarist is from my hometown and things like that dont happen very often for people from my neck of the woods. I'm not really into Agnostic Front either but I really like this stuff. It's got variety too, something which Agnostic Front have been lacking recently. |
