Boy Sets Fire is one of my favorite hardcore (or whatever the hell they play...) bands. Listening to their progression, from 1996's "This Crying This Screaming My Voice is Being Born " to 2000's "After the Eulogy" is an amazing thing. They produce undeniable, bombastic, socio-political hardcore romps to lush, sereen lullaby's. When they signed to Wind-up Records, home of Creed and Drowning Pool, a huge cry of "WHAT THE FUCK?!?!" rose from the underground. With no new material since 2000, Boy Sets Fire was out to prove that they still had IT. With the release of the Live For Today EP, which featuers 4 new songs and 2 live tunes from After the Eulogy, they not only prove they still have it but the prove they are one of the greatest bands out there.

The EP kicks off with a tried and true BSF political romp, "Release the Dogs". You can hear the trademarks screams by Nathan and his trademark singing. Still to this day, nobody balances singing with rageful screaming than Nathan Grey. "Bathory's Sainthood" is another heartfelt, blast of almost metalish sonic joy. The lyrics seem fitting for the day and age in which we live in now. The lyrics make you stop and think. "Curtain Call" is next. It's a decent tune, following in the vein of many ATE songs.

Now comes the treats, the live tracks taken from a show recorded a few months ago on 07.19.02 at Club Krome in South Amboy, NJ..."After the Eulogy" kicks of the live segment and this version absolutely fucking rocks. The chants of "Rise! Rise! Rise!' blasts in to hardcore heaven...the end of the song where they break it down and have the crowd scream "where's your fucking RAAAAGE!" is sick! After that came another new song called "Handful Of Redemption" and it is another beautiful BSF masterpiece. The heart and emotion the band puts into their songs is so evident here...finally they end the EP with a live version of "Rookie", and it totally kicks ass!

Boy Sets Fire is about to take the world by storm. On April 4th 2003 they release their next full length and the evil leaders of the world best beware to feel the rage of us all. On a side note BSF is touring with Snapcase, Time in Malta, Atreyu, Autopilot off and more. Go see them, they fucking rule.

I love this album. I don't agree with all the lyrics but i still love the style.

And one thing that pisses me off is all the peole out there that say they are weak and i hate them.. good for you. go spew ur hate somewhere else. music is music if people like listening to it good for them. WHO ARE YOU TO TELL THEM WHAT TO LIKE? go get ur own talent make a band and then resist a bigger label.. when u've done that then u can come back here and talk ur ass off till then keep the hate to yourself stupid ignorant ephers... since your so much better than us why even associate yourself with us. I'll like get up kids blink nfg soco or whoever i want cause i like it not cause u think it all sounds the same and think it should burn

This band knows what they are doing..They are still independent while getting their music out to more and more people. The EP is very good too. all 4 new songs make "Tomorow come today" something to look forward to.

    My Score:

A band like this is fucked either way. Some dickhead is always there to cut them down, saying they're too political, or not political enough, or they're talking above everyone, or they're dumbing down politics.

Don't count on a band to teach you about political issues. There are plenty of books about that. They COULD give comprehensive lessons on politics in their songs, but how boring would that be to listen to? Judge this EP for what it is. A good angry album. Good screaming and good singing, as well as some nice music backing it. Nothing more, nothing less.

    My Score:

They are no socialists nor commies, they are pissed off, fed up humans, just like me. Thank god bands like them and Strike ANywhere have the 'nads to write songs about the corruption, greed and apathy of today's state. Integrity aside, the band flat out shreds. Like one of the guys here said, there is no denying they rock hard and that's a fact!

    My Score:

eh, not really a big fan of this band. still, i would much rather see these guys get popular than another faceless pop-punk act. i dig the political stance as well.

    My Score:

I agree NFG and Blink and all the other bands popping up these days may not sound exactly the same, but it's all made for the same audience of retards. They do not, however, sound anything like new or old get up kids. Anyway, BSF is ok I kinda like this EP but I just can't seem to like them much. Besides aren't they commies? Or was it socialist...

    My Score:

Very good E.P. They still have stuck to their guns it seems. To the dumbass saying anyone can pick up a soc. book and do the same you are a dumbass. First of all, what makes you a teacher on the issues to criticize? Most bands don't have the knowledge of shit and write about girls. Read the lyrics, very intelligent. That is all.

you all need to remember they have to split whatever money they have 5 ways, the net money gained is misleading.

    My Score:

Hey buddy, your an idiot if you think that get up kids sound like NFG or blink. Probably never listen to them anyway huh? Ignorant comments. Anyway I still like blink and nfg and get up kids, they just dont sound the same at all. Boy Sets Fire rule too. And i know what your thinking, oh he is so not punk, and i say... so what!?

    My Score:

Good album, Fuck Creed. I'm not saying that because I'm "punk rock", I'm saying that because they just plain fucking suck! Terribly unoriginal band with a singer that sounds like every other singer on KROQ. Default, Days Of The New, Creed, Stone Temple Pilots, and countless other bands all sound like the exact same shitty band. The same as how Blink 182, Simple Plan, New Found Glory, Sum 41, Something Corporate, and the Get Up Kids all sound the same.

    My Score:

Who cares if they're on Wind Up. I would much rather listen to them AND creed instead countless shit punk bands. And Creed isn't that good to begin with...

    My Score:

Just like to point out that these guys still have "day jobs" when their not touring. Can't be making too much off their contract, then, eh?
The EP is amazing and shows the range of the band. These songs rock live--catch them on tour.

    They're on Creed's label.

    My Score:

I think if there is an "underground" band to go big, it's these guys. Songs like "Handful Of Redemption" would do great on the radio.

    My Score:

He sounds like the guy from DBS.

    My Score:

i really, really doubt they signed a million $ contract buddy. it was probably more like $100,000 or less- which is still a lot, but not ridiculous. But it is rather hard to sound anguished when you've got that much money under the belt. Overall I liked most of this record. Release the dogs is an intense song. Let's just hope they can keep good music and try not to get consumed by MTV culture.

I thought this was ok, but I think In Chrysalis is definitely the strongest thing they've ever done overall. Also, Suckerpunch Training was definitely stronger than this, so if you're new to the band, go for one of those.

    My Score:

I used to really like this band, but then I wised up. Their political lyrics are pretty weak, and any band that signs a million dollar contract with Creed's label really has no explanation for sounding so sincere with lyrics about poverty and depravity. I might have more respect for them if they were active in some sort of cause other than reading a few sociology books to give themselves credibility. Plus, that whole "We're emo...no wait, we're hardcore...no wait, we're punk" attitude is just pandering to develop as large of a fanbase as possible. I officially welcome myself to this establishment as a voice of defiance.

This album is great. By the way, Tomorrow Come Today comes out April 1st, 2003. And the vocalist is Nathan Gray.
