This cd begins similarly to their last full-length, not with music, but with a conversation between two people. As the song continues the conversation fades and Conor and his acoustic guitar enter. This intro song is about eight minutes long and features just vocals and acoustic guitar. It’s a pretty decent song to start of this cd.

I'm not surprised to see negative reviews of this album, given it's a punk website. But this album is just amazing, especially considering Conor's age. But it's definitely folk rock...AP magazine said it best- Gen. Y, you have found your Bob Dylan. "Don't know when But a Day's Gonna Come" has floored everyone I've played it for, male or female. Don't be afraid to admit you have emotions, guys. bright eyes is amazing and if you cant accept his art for what it is - something beautiful and unbelievable - then i think you should listen to it again. i dont want everyone to love bright eyes and rant and rave about how great conor is [although that would be nice] cuz not everyone has to like the same thing, but if you can accept that it is good and that conor is talented i think i can be satisfyed. conor oberst is an awesome and insightful songwriter who isn't afraid to pour himself on the line. Half of the shit you guys listens to is trivial bullshit. This guy is the real deal. If you like conor, then listen to desaparecidos. They are just as fuckin good. Nice post 3 times in a row. It was too obivious that the 3 post below me by Anonymous are by the same person. Fucking pathetic loser. You guys are nothing but a group of girls yes. the dude below me is right. Blah fucking blah. Just listen to elliot smith. the 2 people that have a conversation at the beginning are Jenny Lewis & Blake Sennett of Rilo kiley. . the newest band to sign to saddle creek [ and the only one out of omaha i think.. they're from los angeles. ] No one (besides the guy below me) said Neil Young didn't write good lyrics. However, if we are to praise him for his lyrical abilities, should we not also praise Conor Oberst for his? There are many good lyricists, and just because one is better than another, in the opinion of one person, it does not mean that we should say that one is unworthy of praise because another is deemed to be better. I saw Bright Eyes live last night, and I have to say it was the most amazing show I've ever seen. Conner had a 15 piece band behind him, and it was simply incredible. Baritone, french horn, trumpet, violin, cello, slide guitar, xylophone, keyboard, and 3 drummers. If you have a chance to see him live, do by all means or you will definately regret it. They played mostly songs off this CD, and I hadn't even heard it yet, but it was the most incredible thing I'd ever heard. to the anonymous posted 2 below... neil young is probably better than everything that has ever been reviewed on this site... Dont worry everyone mine will be here soon James Taylor, maybe. But Neil Young? You need to leave now.. The stuttered vocal delivery, the uncomfortably disturbing lyrical content (i.e. "Like when I fell under the weight of a school boy crush / started carrying her books and doing lots of drugs..." creepy), the four step country, the chamber pop fantasy swirling! come on, havent you people heard james taylor? or neil young? this shit is awful compared to that. vox arent bad, and conors a nice dude and all, but come on, people should not worship this. The EP that came out before this is also worth picking up for the songs not on here. I can't believe "We are free men" didn't make the album. This album was OK... I mean, some songs are great (You will, Let's Not Shit Ourselves), but Fevers and Mirrors blows it AWAY, totally... |
