The Forgotten have always been on of "my" bands. Their last full
length for TKO, "Keep The Corpses Quiet," became my soundtrack for an
entire summer and I still love that album dearly. "Corpses" blazed
along, taking typical street punk tunes and thrashing them out like speedy
hardcore. With "Control Me," the band's BYO debut, the Forgotten sound
far more subdued. The shift in style between "Corpses" and
"Control" left me somewhat disappointed on first listen, but the
record revealed its charms when I put my expectations aside.

If you get the cance pick it up. Everyone I know (myself included) liked VVV better. Haven't heard this one yet, but I certainly look forward to it. I honestly havent heard too much of Veni Vidi Vici so I can't really answer that. I know "Corpses" was a bit speedier than VVV, so the tempo on their first album is probably closer to that of "Control Me." The band has quite grown as songwriters though... so this is definitely worth a listen. What did you think of their first album Adam? Would you compare this one more to that one? I've never really considered the Forgotten "hardcore" really, but their previous album played street-punk with the speed and energy of hardcore. Thats what made it cool to me. good review. it actually makes me want to get this album. I'm not the biggest fan of hardcore (i like some of it, but not most), so this sounds like a good disc for me. besides, i'm a fan of rancid, DM, and Social Distortion. fancy that. Ok… to clarify for your conclusion jumping ass… i'll have to check this one out, i'm a sucker for good Oi Cool review, but patriots piss me off. For those of you who are interested, I reviewed "Keep The Corpses Quiet" a few years ago. I think If I write at about a level 4 on the "crappy rambling" scale now, it's a 6. Adjust your scales accordingly... |
