Good Charlotte as a band is so incredibly bad. Their lyrics are meaningless and their music is nothing more than manufactured pop. I know there's no way I can set you fans straight, but it's the truth. Nothing on this album is worth even listening to. I will admit that when this album first came out, I was a fan. That was when I was in 5th grade and didn't know any better. Now that I've discovered actual punks bands, I must say I was quite an idiot for ever believing that Good Charlotte is punk. Some people may like their music and I'm fine with that. It's that they try to pass themselves off a punk that pisses me off. Maybe someday all of you GC fans will discover real punk and realize what asses you're being. I just hope that one day you have a closet full of the Ramones, Sex Pisols, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, and NOFX. With some Rancid and Reagan Youth on the side. I hope that you can pull your heads out of your asses and realize the difference between punk and pop. I just hope.

So, I used to like Good Charlotte. In fact, I used to ADORE them. I thought that their music was awesome, and that the guys were great role models.

Next thing you know, I meet Joel and Benji at a concert. They were awesome. I freaked, had fun, blahblahblah.

Then, at Warped Tour a few months later, I met Paul Morey from The Unseen. He was on the phone with Joel from Good Charlotte.

Paul told Joel to say hi to me and my friends, and Paul put him on speakerphone. The next thing I hear come out of the phone is... "TELL THOSE POSER KIDS TO FUCK OFF."

I wanted to fucking kill Joel. He's changed. The whole band has. And now, their music sounds slightly... different to me. I can't listen to them without wanting to... SLAUGHTER someone.

First off, what are they doin on PUNKnews? Second of all, (new) blink and (all) mest are just as shitty as "sp" and "gc" as you kids refer to them nowdays. But seriously, if you're over 12 years old, and you think that this is good "punk", do me a favor and shoot yourself, or go buy "My Brain Hurts" from Screeching Weasel.

This is insulting pop punk. I think this is not even part of punk its pop. They are by far the worst band ever I rather listen to No dout and come on you all know good and well that thease guys are most likely gay. The only thing good they ever did was benji was in the Mest Video and song but that was most likely my least favorite Mest song. Blink 182 and Mest are the best bands ever. Album sucks in my opinion. Is it just me, or is the "underground music scene" becoming just as oppressive as the mainstream. You define yourself by the music you listen to, ok! you like punk rock, but don't call yourself a punk rocker, now that's just fucking lame. Hating people because they like this kind of music (i.e. Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, etc.), even though they do suck miserably, not because they're poppy, but because they suck at songwriting and musically. The "punk" movement was based on the opposition of opression by the government and it's faculties, and now "punk purists" are doing the same damn thing. Shame. Sorry for the rant.

anyhow , they changed a lot with this album . more into creating a cd that will sell . well ,thats what i got out of it .

there are some fairly decent songs on it and it does show you how they changed but it was too much for me and i was into different kinds of music with different meanings etc..

This is not a good album. It has too much softening for my taste, too much sweet and sweeter riffs, and being too lame too actually branch out from anywhere but where they are un-confortable.
However, Blink 182 and Sum 41 are not afraid to do this.
Sum 41's 2nd album is actually not bad - not good either, but definatly NOT punk-pop.
Blink 182's most recent album is again NOT punk-pop as they have BRANCHED out.

Punk-pop purists hate these albums, but us punk lovers who they are targeting just tarnish them all with the same brush

Okay, let me just make it clear here that you guys should only put down comments and reviews for this album once you have actually bought the damn thing and listened to it and evaluated how good it is. You SHOULD NOT be fucking talking about how Good Charlotte are just a bunch of gay, pussy, trendy-ass posers.

Now don't get me wrong here, I completely agree that GC pussy-footing around TRL and MTV and chillin' with Britney Spears and gettin' their "groove on" with Missy Elliot is really fucked. Also it's probably correct to say that they have turned into what is probably most hated by punks around the world-POP. But that's not what we're here to talk about. I gotta give a little opinion on this very record, don't I? Well, I gotta say that "New Beginning", the intro on this CD, is completely brilliant, and maybe one of the best ways to start an album that I've heard in a long time. The howling of a choir in the background is a little cheesy, but nevertheless, it gets you pumped up for the rest of the record and sends a couple of chills down your spine. Then there are the songs "Anthem", and the ever-so-popular "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous." In my opinion, they're both very good songs, and definitely the best on the album. After that though, we quickly plunge into a deep hole with the rest of the band as the rest of this CD starts to downright suck. "Wondering" makes me wonder if Joel actually has a penis or not. His voice goes wayyy wayyyy too high and the lyrics are extremely corny. "Story of My Old Man" has a good drum beat to begin, and slowly progresses throughout, but keeps your interest for a decent song. "Girls & Boys" contains extremely good music, and a heart-pounding chorus that is just plain clever. But the song gets ruined by Joel's lyrics once again, singing on the opinion that girls are only into boys for cars and money. Teenage angst, anyone? "A Bloody Valentine" and "Hold On" are OK, the rain drops screw it up a little, but they're still decent. Joel actually raises his voice into what some may call a "scream" at the end of Valentine, which actually redeems his vocals for the time being. "Riot Girl" is much like the fast beat and lyrics we've heard from GC so far, nothing new, nothing surprising, very boring. "Say Anything"-much like the Valentine-Hold On group from before, another non-surprising and boring song. And the lyrics here confuse me a little-"Please don't say a word/I know you feel the same/Just give me a sign/Say anything/Say anything". Er-hem, am I going deaf, because he just sang to not say a word, then said to say anything, in the same damn chorus! Once again this is proving how much the lyrics and singing fucking suck on this album. "Day I Die", not exactly an anthem but gives you a sense that is, but no matter what the song just turns out ugly. We come up to the title song now, actually something that is pretty good, a good anthem, and Joel decides to piece the lyrics together well for once. "Emotionaless", ugh, man, someone get these guys some tissues, cuz' I've heard enough of their fucking crying about their dads. We know he left you, but, Jesus, get over it, we've had enough. The CD then closes out with "Movin' On", and no matter what I just can't seem to comprehend what the fuck the purpose of the song is. But it just adds to the list to the rest of the album.

This Good Charlotte record starts off very strong then ends up in a hole that Carson Daly won't even be able to pull them out of. Say goodbye to the punk world GC, and welcome to pop.

OK, personally, I have no idea what all you guys are fighting about. Good Charlotte is not punk, Good Charlotte never claimed to be punk, and I have no idea why they are even on this website.

BUT, they have good beats and catchy and meaningful lyrics for those who appreaciate them. I wasn't going to post here, but reading all of your comments, I thought I should.

Benji says that if he had to label their music, it would be OLD SCHOOL HIP HOP. Yeah, that's right. He didn't say punk or rock or poppy punk. He said Hip Hop. Secondly, I don't know if any of you people dissing GC like Rancid, but Lars, from Rancid has recently stated that "If you have a problem with GC, then you have to go through me first." Lars is a friend of the band and he said he doesn't have a problem with GC, why do so many other people.

Yes... as much as I want to stay away from MTV/Much Music I can't really... I've been noticing Much Music play a lot of Me first and Rancid lately. I've also seen dropkick/rancid/pennywise interviews. Infact I saw one of the vj's on Much Music (Rick) wearing a Me First t-shirt. Kind of weird, he is a big n'sync fan or something. Oh well. My point is, I like Me first and The Gimme Gimmes. I also don't mind seeing them on the tele since their a cover band and all. Erm ... well.

Good Charlotte are horrible. I get pissed off every time i see pictures of them in a mag or on TV. I got my edition of guitar magazine the other day and on the cover was the guitarist from good charlotte and it said How to play punk rock. Other bands included was the dropkicks and ramones but were they on the cover? NO! This band is taking over media and it sucks. I saw a comparison of them to the pistols and it was horrible. The pistols won thank god but just the fact that someone would think to compare the two bands is horrible. After a while tho i just stopped caring. I just stopped watching Mtv and much music. There just isnt any good music on it anymore. Maybe one day this will change, but for now that channel remains unvisited

Good Charlotte sucks so much.. i play in a band and i listened to one of there CD's on the road one time and i figured out all the guitar parts in a matter of 2 times listening to the songs and there lyrics suck they claim to be punk but yet they flaunt them selves to corporate america to try to make money and have girls like them i hate good charlotte asnd anyone that likes them

thank you for that comment, I dont' think it is just myself who thinks that "Punk" has become painfully played out, to the point of a headache. I commend GC for a good attempt to put some variety back into this crusty genre. Punk rock used to be revolutionary you know and every single band sounded completly different from one another, then somewhere along the way everyone pussed out, created the same crap with every chord muted and dared to label it punk.

also, i think "punk bands" being on a major can/and should be a good thing provided they are actually trying to communicate a message to the listeners,

the distillers are signed to a major now, are thier fans going to abandon them just because they are reaching a much bigger audience now? hopefully not.

as for the subject matter GC's lyrics. I'm pretty sure that they are about more than just the usual crap. when I listen to them, I hear a desperation and heart that just isn't in music anymore period. and the vast majority of songs have a "don't give up" and "don't let yourself head down this path" vibe which seems to be a good message to me.

It seems to me that all the lyrics on this album come straight from the heart and the music is tight and catchy, this used to be all it took to make a good album, i didn't know that there were other factors involved judging whether music is good or not,

Not many people will disagree that this album sucks. Not many people will disagree that Good Charlotte suck. Not many people will disagree that YOU suck for having nothing better to do than shit on them on message boards. They're out making money doing their thing and having fun. What the fuck is wrong with that? I don't like these guys, but I am a positive person with a positive outlook. Let them have their career, they got lucky and should be able to ride it. I'm sure they're not going to CHANGE because YOU want them to. So get over it, get over punk, get over yourself and just don't listen to them. What I find funny is that in most cases when you go to a "punk" show, you look around and see people who have spent hours doing their hair, makeup, clothing, etc, to be punk. On the other hand you look up at the stage and there's those kids' favorite band wearing t shirts and jeans. What's wrong with this picture? To sum it up, let people do their thing. Get a Life.
