Originally I saw no need to write a review for this album, because I never thought we'd hear from SR-71 again. I was wrong.

Recently I've been seeing the band get more attention because of the release of their sophomore album, "Tomorrow" later this month. And in a lot of this coverage, I've noticed one important thing: it all says that SR-71 is pop-punk. Now, unless this new album is a totally new sound, then this band should never be referred to as punk. Not even pop-punk. I have no idea how they even got that label. Calling this band pop-punk makes Something Corporate into From Autumn to Ashes. This is purely a pop rock band that would fall somewhere between Third Eye Blind and Eve 6.

Now, if you've heard the two singles from this CD ("Right Now" and "Politically Correct"), then you'd probably think this band has some punk influences, but those are the only ones. Every other song is terrible. "Last Man on the Moon," "Another Night Alone," and "Non-Toxic" are all very soft songs, and "Fame (What She's Wanting)" is no better than a standard Britney Spears song. Unless you're a matchbox twenty fan (and hopefully there's none here), don't pick this up.

But anyway, a good way to sum this album up is like this: If a guy like me (see my other reviews to see my status on this site) finds it offensive to call SR-71 pop-punk, then it couldn't possibly be good, right?

"Right Now" and "Politically Correct" are the only good songs. All the rest suck.

    see this

Even if the executives at MTV wanted to tailor-make a band to their target demographic, it's doubtful they could do better than SR-71, who have the looks of 'NSync and tunes of the Goo Goo Dolls. Frontman Mitch Allan certainly is a programmer's dream, delivering jaunty songs that hint at a greater picture, with ambiguous lyrics touching on everything from self-loathing to indeterminate social commentary.
The music, meanwhile, may deceive with its aggressive stabs at pop-punk and its chugging rhythms, but, at their core, such ostensibly furrow-browed anthems as "Right Now" and "The Last Man on the Moon" are pure bubble gum. It's doubtful anyone will reach for, or even remember Now You See Inside a year from now, but at the moment, it is the missing link between Matchbox Twenty and Blink-182.

Usually people take an album like this and try to explain why it IS punk, not take an album that no one cares about and reiterate that it isn't. Since apparently we're now reviewing non-punk albums in an effort to keep punks away from non-punk music, keep an eye out for my forth coming "Kenny Loggin's Greatest Hits" review.....krowdsurf

I think Cobra had a plane that looked alot similar to the SR-71. The one that had a smaller plane inside it. I think it might have been piloted by Zartan or one of his crew. I could be totally off here.

and POP-PUNK is definitely an Oxymoron. The two can't be paired, because the punk portion would rip the skin off the pop portion and there wouldn't be any pop left. punk hates pop. thats all there is to it. and music can be melodic and catchy without being pop. very easily. bad relgion and pennywise are not pop, but they're both melodic and catchy

Specifically its the SR-71 BLACKBIRD. Ever read XMEN? That jet they have is a Blackbird, except there's is silver. The real ones are dark blue/black.

This is awful, why shoudl it be reviewed. And secondly, what's with this band being a glam-metal band when they started out and a "punk" band once Blink got big.

Haha, damnit scott I wanted to be the smart one that knew what SR-71 meant... oh well. I am hesitant to ever say any band that makes it really big sucks except for a select few (Dave Matthews, Creed, Nickelback, LifeHouse, Puddle Of Mudd, and a few others). This is another band I will say sucks. Not because I dont enjoy their music (which I dont)... its because I think that they are only in it for the money. I mean come one. Their first cd was pretty poppy sounding... kinda like blink mixed with Lit. Now they are all about sounding like Linkin Park. I dont see where the hell that came from. I think they reversed their trends... pop punk is popular now and they are rap rock rap rock was popular then and they were pop punk (sorta). I will admit that i was fooled... I thought their first song (Right Now) was catchy and bought the cd. Thank god it was only $4.99 when I bought it.-BostonMusicGuy

HOLY SHIT! EDDIE , THIS IS SO COOL. I FORGOT ABOUT THIS CD TIL I SAW A REVIEW. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE SOME IDIOT trying to defend it, but thank god its not. this cd was the worst cd i ever bought. i thought 'right now' was a cool song, but it was the only one on it, and in hindsight its really not even that good of a song. the cd was like on sale for 5 bux so i bought it. and yea i rmember that 'fame' song, it was so, so , so , so , so , so , so bad. and your wrong, politcally correct is not a good song. ok bye. thaks again for reviewing this cd. that was funny comic relief

"what is pop punk~ its an oxymoron pop, meaing popular and punk meaning.. u no... theres no such thing poppunk isnt real its just shitty rock groups that think there punk and sr 71 hasta be the shittiest band ever! decent review" There are some things on this site that doesn't need to be said because they are pointed out every damn review. The comment made above contains two of them, pop punk is a oxymoron, and a certain pop punk band sucks. Another one is pointing out a bands previous cd is better. and when a band is mentioned thats not a punk group, there is no need to point out they are not punk, we already know.
