"The happiest place on earth," is where the concert was being held tonight. The House of Blues in Downtown Disney (Anaheim), was the place to catch Mests very first headling tour. Brought along for support on the tour (in order of apperance) were MadCap, Catch 22, and HomeGrown. After watching the last 2 innings of the victorious play-off game for the Angels, it ended just in time for the first band to come on.

Starting things off for the night was MadCap, a still small but never the less growing band from Pasadena, California. I remember way back before they signed to Side One Dummy they were playing this small coffee house all the time by my house, hell my band even played with them there a few times. To see them here tonight, was a great feeling, knowing how far they have come and how hard they have worked. Their music is, well hard to describe. It's got a toouch of the "oi oi" sound, along with some Rancid, and standout vocals where all three front men sing together blending the choruses together perfectly. If you have never heard of these guys, check out the songs "Bright Lights, Big City" and "Going on the Road." These guys had great stage presence, and managed to warm the crowd up nicely.

Catch 22, a band who I had only heard a few songs by. It was their early stuff, Keasbey Nights, with their old (and in my opinion better) singer. But, that is not the point of this review, the point of this review is to tell you how much they (excuse me for my language but) FUCKING SUCKED! It was beyond awful. The vocals were horrible, the horns sucked, everything about them was bad. This was ska at its absolutely lowest form. Too many things were going on at once that weren't blending together, and their music was complete and utter chaotic noise. For anyone who wants to see a band with no energy play horrible music then I suggest this ska band from New Jersey, Catch 22.

HomeGrown, ah yes, a very good band. I would be happy just to see these guys headline, and after their set that is what it felt like. Everyone was singing along to the newly signed Drive-Thru band, making them feel right at "home." The band managed to play all of their hits, including quite a few songs off of "Act Your Age," and even a surprise of an old classic, "Get a Job." The rest of the show was the new album (which I personally think sound great live) and the great renditions of "Surfer Girl" and "Barbie Girl." Johnee made some funny jokes, making fun of white people because he is Asian and he is "higher up in intelligence." Adam came back with jokes about how Johnee eats cats and dogs, and it went back in forth thru out a few songs, which was very humurous to listen to.

The highlight of the night, was, yes, you guessed it...Mest. As I said before, this is their first headlining tour (even tho I remember them playing shows with the riddlin kids opening up for them and mest headlined...maybe they meant full u.s. tour), and it turned out to be a great show. The crowd was treated to running around and jumping all over the stage, and all of the hits off of "Wasting Time" and "Destination Unkown." They did spare the crowd from "What's the Dillio" tho (haha nice rhyming I know), which is a good thing. The band had water fights, throwing their water bottles up at the balcony and the balcony thru their bottles right back down, and this lasted for a long time until all the water was used up. It seriously felt like it was raining inside the venue (and on the sound booth), water was flying everywhere. The only part of the evening that I did not enjoy was (even tho I do not have all the info on it) Tony, the lead singer for Mest, got really pissed at the guitar tech, and during one of the songs, kept pushing over his microphone stand and making the guy pick it up, making him fetch his guitar when he threw it out into the crowd (twice), and making fun of him into the microphone. It was a very sad sight seeing Tony be such a dick to the guy who you could tell was about to burst out crying. That is my only complaint of the night, and the drunk guys behind me who didn't like one of the bands the whole night, but that seems to happen at every show and I still have never figured it out. One more thing, don't ever leave the floor of the Anaheim HOB because if you go upstairs, you have to wait in a line to get back downstairs, and since only 600 people are allowed downstairs at once; you have to wait for one person to come up, and then one can go down. It is quite shitty that way.

All in all (I'm sorry this review blows, I am tired and well, nevermind. It doesn't matter what I write, none of you will read this anyway, you just clicked on here to say how much all of the bands suck) this was a wonderful show, that ended after midnight. All the bands were good except for Catch 22, who again I would like to say were terrible, but at least they seemed like nice guys up on stage.

That is all.

Mest suck balls. End of arguement.

I saw the show in Hollywood, and I went mainly to see Mest, Madcap and Homegrown were just bonuses. However, once Mest took the stage, they really turned me off as a listener- I really doubt they could have passed a sobriety test- they were mean and annoying, and mumbling a bunch of mumbo jumbo about God knows what. I was a huge Mest fan before I went, and I'd even seen them before in the midwest when they played regionally on the Take Off Your Pants and Jacket tour on a small stage. I was really really really disappointed- I'm glad the show in Anaheim went better.

Of course I am going to post a lot on here...I wrote the review so I am commenting on everything. get it? good!

also..Thru is a word as you all figured out hopefully after you looked it up with my advice. Yes, I know not to use it in an essay for english or what not, but on here, it saves time and it works.

i think it's hysterical how wussemo feels like he has to respond to every comment. is this the result of insecurity or just someone who has a little too much time on his hands?

Anonymous (October 18, 2002)

I wish the Beltway Sniper was at that show.

WussEmoRock (October 18, 2002)

It can't be too much to ask, for you all to respect my tatse in music. I respect yours, so what si the problem here? If we all liked the same style of bands, their would be no diversity and nothing new would ever happen. sounds boring to me. so just because I like a pop band doesn't mean I'm a fag because you like a hardcore band, just think, if the tables were turned here and everyone on here liked pop punk, then you'd be the "new pat 41." you get my drift? NOW GROW UP!

*****Wuss-Emo-Rock*****

Anonymous (October 18, 2002)

It's sounding more and more to me like this lead singer guy isn't someone I'm liking much anymore... Blah. and... I still think Catch 22 is crappy ska... ...!

Anonymous (October 18, 2002)

first off, catch 22 were an amazing live band in the past. I think they tried to cram in too many songs so they werent tight. i didnt think they were that great on this tour either. It was interesting to see 15 year olds try to mumble the words to homegrown songs. They had alot of energy and their nfg shirts on. they just didnt know a word for the life of them. except for when the band broke into sufer girl. The wee lads didn't care too much for the amazing "she's anti" though. MEST WERE AWFUL. they should have just run a boombox through the PA. They were also filthy. I saw a 13 year old girl wearing a 'got mest' shirt with the mest guy getting head on it. That ruined me from liking a band that i've liked since 'mo money, mo' 40'z. I went home and broke their cds. They were a waste. Homegrown was the highlight. bland show. The quest in minneapolis is great though

Anonymous (October 18, 2002)

My 2 Cents:
Quit Bitching - this guy has his own opinion, and sorry to tell you, it counts just as much as the next guy's. i don't like mest, but i'm not gonna cry about it - because it's not goin to make a damn bit of difference. these comments sections are a joke and obviously prove that it's worthless to even try to state your own opinion. Many of the comments say the same shit over and over, and nothing constructive is ever said. Maybe i'm expecting too much, and i know it's been this way since i can remember. Anyways, sorry about the sadness, but just a little mutual respect would do us all a lot of good.

moldy (October 18, 2002)

Gotta agree with scott on this one but i think pat had alot better taste in music.

I really miss fathead right now.

Anonymous (October 18, 2002)

WussEmoRock. God how i wish youd shut the fuck up. You have THE worst taste in music. Catch 22 is one of the most talented bands ive ever heard in any genre. But fuck ups like you cant even comprehend their lyrics and music. Go listen to youre Mest and and youre Starting Line cds and fucking die.

P.S- I also agree with the guy that said Catch should have quite when Tomas left. But still they are amazing.

since when did this forum turn into bitches r us? let's comment on the show, not on how gay wussemo is. this lineup is utterly pathetic. you could not pay me to sit through this show and waste 3 hours of my life away. how the fuck mest ever got to headlining shows is beyond me. i saw those guys with goldfinger and reel big fish(i like rbf, so fuck you) and they were prancing and jumping in unison, all choreographed and shit. what's the dillio? the dillio is these guys need to drop dead. and catch 22 was never that great. i've seen em live. nothing special at all.

Anonymous (October 17, 2002)

ah shit. i've got personality disorder problems. its ok fellas, it really is me posting. but one day i'm a ska faggot listening to reel big fish, the next day i'm an emo faggot listening to dashboard confessional. help me!

i saw mest when they opened for goldfinger years ago. they can eat the dick and die. they are fucking cocky ass holes who need to get a clue and show some respect for the audience. they remind me of a poppy clit 45 or a osker. their whole purpose is to fuck with the crowd. fuck these guys.

Anonymous (October 17, 2002)

Ok so you're the same age as me, sorry for pissing you off.. I like mest myself or just what I've heard about them, but catch 22 totally blows them away in my opinion

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

Mest sucks. Save your money and go see a good show like Hank III or the Revereand Horton Heat! They are alot better and far more punk than Mest. And just in-case you didn't remember....MEST SUCKS!!!

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

i'll take blink 182 over mest. that's how much these guys suck.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

in chicago awhile ago, their were free Mest tickets everywhere in huge piles at every record store, comic book shop, and no one ever took one, they just piled up. They couldnt give away tickets. Thats the only contact with mest ive had and it did it for me.

i have to hand it to wussemo-he may like a band that i hate with every cell in my body. but he admits it and takes a lot of shit for it. wussemo-you're not a wuss. you're brave! you're my hero! got a number or email where i can reach you? my loins feel warm everytime i read your posts. ummmmm............. excuse me, i just finished and need to wash myself off . . . . . although i do dream sometimes of wussemo doing the washing for me.

the sick fuck

WussEmoRock (October 16, 2002)

thanks scott...the only difference is, I admit to liking all of the bands I like (rbf, simple plan, mest, the list goes on)...don't get me wrong tho, I am only naming the bands that all of you hate, I do like some you all enjoy.

*****Wuss-Emo-Rock*****

maverick (October 16, 2002)

I think WussEmoRock is the new Pat41.

Scary.

Anyway, all four of these bands suck.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

horrible horrible horrible lineup. i would rather go to a slayer show and die in the mosh pit than stand through 4 of the shittiest bands in the "punk" scene. first, you got madcap, who everyone who has seen them tells me they suck. then catch 22, one of the shittiest ska-punk bands to ever grace this earth. bosstones, ltj, op ivy-yes. catch 22-umm, fuck no. then homegrown-they just suck, no explanation needed. then the almighty mest-someone on another thread said the d.c. sniper should take down chris from dashboard. the sniper should also take down the braindead idiots that make up mest. jesus, what a way to waste $15.

WussEmoRock (October 16, 2002)

funny dick, you haven't met me. for the record, even tho it shouldn't matter on here what anyones age is, it is all about what music you like, I am 18. big fucking woop. and to the guy below, you only wish you could meet me, haha. just kidding. people, open your horizons, seriously. stop living in a I'm too punk for you world

*****Wuss-Emo-Rock*****

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

I've met WussEmo and he is 12 years old.. but that doesn't stop him from giving great head huh? HUH?? Well I've seen catch 22 before and they were great, you cant really trust them to have a decent review by a guy with a name like that

WussEmoRock (October 16, 2002)

I am not 12, and just because I don't like a band you enjoy does not mean I have shitty taste. If anyone else was at this show, speak up now, because you can second me on how bad catch 22 really were. fuck, they made my head hurt they were so bad. they played way too fast and then couldn't even keep up with it, and the vocals sounded like a guy speed talking, it was just plain bad.

*****Wuss-Emo-Rock*****

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

hahahahahahaha You look forward to Mest and then criticise Catch 22.

Pull your ears outta your 12 year old pimply ass and get some taste.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

MEST models for hot topic as well. how fucking sad is that? punk my ass.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

And if we didn't bitch about him, you wouldn't be able to bitch about us. Maybe you should take some of your own advice and think next time before responding.

I'm still confused how you could prefer Mest over Catch 22. At least Catch 22 didn't perform on Jenny Jones

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

i went to the show in oc and it wasnt half bad. I love homegrown, they kick! This is coming from a girl, but you guys are all assholes, like Tony. Just think if this dude didnt write the review, you wouldnt be able to bitch about nothing. Nevermind, you people dont think thats the problem.
ilymayo

TheOneTrueBill (October 16, 2002)

i've said it before and i'll say it again... homegrown is so bad that i actually left before the headliner because i couldnt stand them anymore

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

Catch 22 should have broken up when Tomas Left, the new singer should die

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

to the guy below, you're most likely going to get a response like "ohh grow up you ignorant fucker" from someone.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

this coming from a simple plan fan...

WussEmoRock (October 16, 2002)

also..why wouldn't I do reviews? Because I reviewed a Mest show? and because you don't like Mest and I reviewed them I should never be allowed to do reviews again? Or is it because I said catch 22 suck. which is it?

catch 22 suck, just so you do not forget, and everyone, give Madcap a chance, they really aren't bad.

*****Wuss-Emo-Rock*****

WussEmoRock (October 16, 2002)

to the fucker below...

thru is a word...it is another way to say through. you ignorant fuck!

sickboi (October 16, 2002)

OK, I'm not the biggest Catch 22 fan, but fucking come on, Mest?

ltjskank324 (October 16, 2002)

yeah and i forgot about all the teeny bobbers thats an embarasment to see them at a punk show, oh wait! mest isnt even good enough to be considered a punk band i forgot! how they were headlining this tour, mindboggling! shouldnt they be off with the other pop jerkoffs doin some mtv trl tour?

ltjskank324 (October 16, 2002)

u most sit at home and jack off to blink 182, i went to this show in az, and mest sucked, every song sounds the same and if they play that cadillac song again im gunna do something drastic, whoever said too bad homegrown and catch 22 got stuck with a shitty band was right on!, catch22 knocked the shit outta mest, and they sound AWESOME live so fuck u!

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

madcap?......madcap?.....honestly, they are the worst band i've ever had to sit through

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

Thru isn't a word, and you shouldn't do reviews.

That is all.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

it sad to see catch 22 come down to this, should of quit after alone in a crowd--emptycauses

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

I was at this show. I like Mest but I was there to see Home Grown and Catch 22. I had never gotten the chance to Mest live so this was a first and hopefully the last. I will support them in as little way as possible you would swear they were the kings of punk rock, they were complete prima-donnas. I hope they get banned from the HOB for getting water on the sound board. They just talk forever. They could have played at least 5 more songs, this coming from a person who has seen Home Grown many many times. They play well together but I can't emphasize what assholes they are. By the way I disagree about Catch, they are a phenomenal ska band. Each member is truely good in their department. I really do not see a difference between the singing than on their "Alone in a Crowd" album. Hopefully they come back soon. Just my 4 cents.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

Fuck mest, after that review where they mocked suicide, then mocked the guitar tech!? Fuck these guys, too bad Homegrown and Catch 22 got stuck playing with such a shitty fucking band.

TJmoney (October 16, 2002)

I like Catch 22 and they rule live. Yeah they do.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

oops, didnt mean to give em 5 stars..that should be no stars

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

Fuck mest! was their name supposed to be a joke or what? like "dude, I'm so messed!" but spelled differently?? I saw them live b/c some guys I knew wanted to see them and they're a bunch of dingleberries(I went so I could see how Movielife was live b/c I like 'This Time Next Year') but Mest had like 12 and 13 yr old girls screaming for them. They try to blend rap and punk too. Don't get me wrong, I love good hip-hop but Mest sucks cock. If i was the guitar tech I would've thrown a bottle at that dickhead.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

Fuck you reviewer, if you consider Homegrown and Mest the highlight of the evening. Catch 22 are so talented at what they do, everyone in that band can play their instruments with precision i've never seen. Too bad the place was packed with fuckin teeny boppers who wouldnt know good music if it hit them across their head. I loved seeing catch 22, but I pity the shit they had to tour with.

Anonymous (October 16, 2002)

You can't blame Catch 22 because they probalby didn't want to be there in the first place.

A concert with Homegrown and Mest, how embarrassing

waste_elite (October 16, 2002)

if i was that guitar tech i would've shoved that guitar up Tony's ass sideways. what a cocksucker.

i fucking hate mest with a passion
