To tell you the truth I was a little skeptical to go to this show, I had seen GC at Warped this summer and I really enjoyed their show, but I was worried with their recent TRL and Billboard success that their show was not going to live up to my expectations. But this show ended up being soo much more than I expected; so I left the venue a happy camper.

First off, I don't think I had been at a sold out show at the Newport, by the time I got there the line streched around the block. Of course, the great majority of people there were middle school kids, but everyone was really nice. However, I was disturbed to see 12 year old girls wearing Unseen and Exploited shirts... but hey, what are we going to do about imitators? So they didn't bother me much.

Eventually I nestled myself into a comfortable vantage spot in the pit and prepared myself... didn't know what to expect, but the whole crowd was getting really pumped.

Simple Plan opened the night, and eventhough it was their first time playing Columbus, everyone was pretty familiar with them. I wasn't, but they put on a good show. They did a 8 song set that got the crowd nice and bouncy, and they had really good stage presence and good interaction with the crowd. I don't know what songs they did, but they were fun to watch. They did a lot of jumping around in a newfoundgloriesque style, but they still had some good material. They got everyone really pumped. One highlight in their set was that I think that either Benji or GC's guitar tech did some stage diving, so that was cool... I couldn't tell because they were both dressed alike. But if it was Benji, that was really cool of him.

The second band that night was Autopilot Off. I had seen them at Warped, but I hadn't heard much of them, and I didn't really get much into them last time I saw them. But when I saw them this friday, they absolutely blew my fucking socks off of me. They put on an awesome show, a whole lot of power, very good guitar work, and just an incredible sound all together. I think they were one of the highlites of the night. They played all of the songs off their latest e.p., and they got the pit going nicely. They gave a couple of nice speeches about how much they enjoyed doing the tour with G.C. and they were really happy that G.C. remembers their friends and takes them on tour. That's what it's all about, nothing but Music and Friends and all the other shit that goes on is peripheral and it doesn't matter. So that was cool. I really liked their set, and I talked to them after the show and they were really nice guys, and really cool to just hang out with. Autopilot Off gained one more fan with me that night.

The timing of the sets was good, and about 9:50, the lights went down and the intro song for G.C.'s "Young and the Hopeless came on"... Everyone but Joel came out and they played the intro, that was cool. I was afraid that my ear drums were going to pop with all the girls screaming when they came on, but I was enjoying myself. Good Charlotte put on an amazing show that night. They played all of the good songs off "Young and the Hopeless", and every other song they would do songs from their self titled. It was cool to hear all of their songs played. They put on an awesome show. Some of the highlites include: when they played "ohio worldwide", and they gave a motivational speech that made everone feel better about living in god forsaken ohio :). Benji was giving saying how much he liked Magnolia Thunderpussy and Stained Skin (Best record store and best tattoo place in Columbus), they had some great interaction with the crowd. They genuinely seemed happy to be playing for us, and I found that really nice. They had security turn on the lights, because this one girl hurt herself really badly, and they didn't want her to get worse, so I found that really cool. The music was incredible, everyone was singing along, and G.C. proved that they could do awesome live shows, so I really liked that. They did two songs as an encore, and their set lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes. I really liked the show, and I really liked the fact that the band seemed happy and grateful to everyone to be playing. They tried coming out to meet people, but there was a mob of girls trying to get to them, so I wasn't able to meet them or anything. Oh, another thing, the one time when GC did anything close to preaching, was when they were talking about suicide and they were giving their intro to "Hold On". It was cool that they care enough to do something like that.

It was an awesome show, I didn't even mind the junior high kids and self proclaimed screeching "riot girls", if you get a chance you should check them out when they come somewhere near you. You will be able to enjoy a good show and get to see some really good opening bands. If you can put the TRL bullshit and preconceptions, you will treat yourself to a good show.

I saw Good Charlotte before they were popular at a radio festival.

    They were really really bad.

While looking up another band for some music, I happened to run across this. Wow, I must say I have no faith in the current generation.

    'OMFG u f@g$ listen 2 G/C?' 'ROFL S/P IS TEH BEST BAND EV@4!'

Seriously, I don't care what you listen to, and having a close minded opinion on something and bashing people because of their musical preferences is about as intelligent and creative as going behind a bush to relieve yourself. Who cares what people listen to? It's far from an accurate judgement of their character.

However, I gain most of you are either illiterate and too stupid to comprehend what the hell I'm getting at, so both the anti and pro parties have very little ground to stand on. Another stupid thing I read in this thread was along the lines of the guys in Good Charollote dressing up like poser punks. Since when do you need to wear certain clothes to fit into a conformist sub-culture of any description? As far as I'm concerned, some ghetto rapper can dress up with long spiked hair, combat boots, and leather jackets, and a punk skater kid can dress up in baggy silk clothing by some obscure urban clothing company and still be what they call themselves. If you judge someone by appearence, you are very closed minded and arrogant and I hope that you get arrested by some under cover cop because he looked like some hard core punker.

As for you people who love the bands, good for you. However, grow up and stop responding to people who are provoking you and listen to more than one kind of music.

I myself will listen to anything from Johnny Cash to Cradle of Filth to Left Behind to the Offspring to Atreyu to Metallica to the Foo Fighters to the Arrogant Worms to Bad Religion to Evanessence to Nightwish to classical to Pink Floyd to Frank Zappa. When you all grow up, maybe you'll begin to appeciate what else is out there.

If you have nothing better to do than sit there behind your computer and talk smack about simple plan(pierre is sexy) then you need to go out and get a life. For the people that like simple plan keep wirting and ignore these losers.

    Anonymous (July 18, 2004)

The only thing i go to this concert is to throw bags of shit at them.

    Anonymous (June 26, 2004)

Well i hope you fail your 12 year old exams

    Kiwi (June 26, 2004)

Maybe they don't care what scum like you think and i hope you fail your gcse.

    Anonymous (June 26, 2004)

I'll leave them alone the day i don't have to hear idiots like you defending them for having a good work ethic or whatever, because they don't they are rip of merchants dressed as punks, and don't even get me stared on the music. Their lyrics are on the same par for poorness as mest, which is saying a lot.

    Kiwi (June 26, 2004)

They are on a majar lable because they signed them frist.Just leave them alone.

    Anonymous (June 26, 2004)

Benji can dress how ever he wants just because you losers hate them doesn't mean no one else can.

    Anonymous (June 26, 2004)

If they just wanted to make music, then why are they charging extortinate amounts of money for hoodies (£40, around $75) and are contantly plugging there pathetic clothing label. i don't know what kind of idiot would pay £40 for a on black piece of fabric, on zip and 4 fabric letters. Hmm, only idiotic 12 year old girls who think the presenters of MTV and TRL or whatever are the coolest, funniest people around. Why are they on a major, if thy were just in it for the music, they'ed have a lot more fun on drive-thru or whatever. The person below is clearly stupid and dosn't realise how complety phoney Good Charlotte are.

    Kiwi (June 26, 2004)

leave them alone they just want to make music.I think they are good.

    Anonymous (March 22, 2004)

You know what really sucks? Good Charlotte haters who can't spell properly or use correct grammar. You're only reinforcing my belief that a person needs to be intelligent to appreciate GC and their music. I love GC and I actually own a dictionary and have a firm grasp of the English language since I have been speaking it since the age of two! Get thee to a LIBRARY!

    Anonymous (September 20, 2003)

when will you kids understand that good charlotte is terrible.I dont think this gay trend will die. These posers will get booed off at the warped tour like simple plan, the used, new found glory,blink182,etc etc.JUST FUCKING DIE NOW GC.

    Anonymous (July 17, 2003)

ok i dont live in colombus i didnt attend the show but i have seen all 3 bands live and the only good one was autopilot off. good charlotte are a pussy pop piece of shit band. and simple plan is even hated in canada where they came from. do yourself a favor if you see autopilot off support them there great if you see GC or simple plan stone them to death

    Anonymous (June 1, 2003)

I haven't actually seen Good Charlotte live (so ignore my rating), so I can't defend their live performances. But to the Anonymous guy/girl who complained about Benji's clothes: he can dress however he wants. I'm sure he actually listens to all those bands he wears shirts for. That doesn't mean he's being a hypocrite or anything. Just b/c he has (or had) spikey hair and wears Exploited or Unseen shirts, doesn't mean he's saying he's in a punk band. I'm sure he's fully aware that he doesn't play punk music. He's just showing what kinds of bands he likes. Since when did "punk" music, or any music in general, become about your appearance? That's bullshit, it shouldn't matter what somebody wears.

    Anonymous (December 10, 2002)

face it, good charlotte sux ass man! I can't stand how benji or whoever it is dresses like a real punk w/ his hair all up in huge spikes! If he wants to dress that way fine, but at least he should find a real punk band to play w/. Their song, lifestyles of the rich and the famous is like a backstreet boys song sped up only w/ a guitar and i can't stand boy bands or bands like good charlotte! Good Charlotte are MTV wannabes and they suck. Thats all i gotta say. Later

I have no respect for the Casualties, and naturally, I would never wear their t-shirts.

The same goes for the 3 reviewed jokes.

    Anonymous (November 3, 2002)

This is music for kids, it's like a toys r us soundtrack. If you like it fine, but it is what it is.

    Chelaine (November 3, 2002)

How about you people just leave them alone. Let others enjoy listenin and doing what they want. GC is my fav band and it doesnt matter wat u people think. Being original isnt worrying or complaining about other people its just being yourself.

    Anonymous (November 2, 2002)

i wouldnt be caught dead at this show... these bands make sugarcult and mest look like gods

    Anonymous (November 2, 2002)

What is with these poppy ass bands trying to portray themselves as punk? Benji needs to stop camping out at hot topic and spoon feeding poseurs the message that "it's ok to wear casualties tshirts," when most kids who do are just copying him, with little or no genuine respect for the casualties.

    evildeadalive (November 2, 2002)

I just watched Not Another Teen Movie last night, god Good Charlotte suck. Have they any integrity whatsoever? 80's covers (done terribly might I add) at a dance in a shitty teen movie? Die motherfuckers die.

I can't believe anyone actually went to this show. Dear god.

    Anonymous (November 1, 2002)

This is disposable music for a disposable world. Where's the creativity? Where's the originality? Where's the emotion and the feeling that these guys really are into what they do? This shit sounds like it should be played on Sesame Street. People need to turn off that poison to music known as "mtv" and start going to shows, people need to quit being influenced by shitty pop music and by live performers. Use TV to show genious, not to cash in.

    Anonymous (November 1, 2002)

If I had to sell my soul like these 'punk rockers' did in order to get laid, well then, I'll take a vow of celabacy. There is probably no worse group of corporate selling out in our lifetimes than the current pop-punk scene, and these clowns lead the way. Pop-punk is fine, its just the way that its watered down, presented and marketed that makes it really tender. Lets all give Good Charlotte a round of applause for lowering the bar for aspiring musicians everywhere. I'm going to go listen to their new CD right now while I stick pins in my eyeballs.

    Captain Crunch

    Anonymous (October 31, 2002)

Yeah, I'm DAMN jealous I can't get FAT 12 year old pussy.

    Anonymous (October 31, 2002)

You guys are all jealous. Plain and simple. You can't get laid, and these guys can.

    RightCliqificus (October 31, 2002)

anybody notice that good charlotte is full of shit? they're a terrible excuse for a band. and i know people that look up to them. they're tainting our society. them and all the other bands that worship mxpx and try to sound just like them.. unoriginal bands copying unoriginal bands never makes any sense.

    Anonymous (October 31, 2002)

Thi is about THE MUSIC....this "music" sucks. It's not music.....it's candy ass children's pop, sounds like the stuff 12 year olds listen to when they fist feel things for girls....disgusting.

    lalombriz (October 31, 2002)

dude... how goddamned closed minded are you? judging a band by how the look? that is truly superficial and i feel sorry for you... you are missing out on a lot of cool shit... look a little more into things, and don't just dismiss them... whatever... keep an open mind and don't discriminate!

    Anonymous (October 30, 2002)

These bands should be cut into peices. This is the kind of music that church goers listen to, die die die.

    Anonymous (October 30, 2002)

haha, my best friend's band, left behind (www.leftbehindrock.com) is sponsored by GC's clothing company. they say they're the nicest guys ever. as for GC's music, i can't say i'm a fan.

    Anonymous (October 30, 2002)

i gotta say this one more time....pierre what the fuck were you doing leaving reset for the worst fucking unoriginal piece of shit lame "pop" band ever simple plan. Good Charlotte are fucking horrible too. Reset fucking rocks!

    Silent Bob

    Anonymous (October 30, 2002)

Good charlotte is hands down just the worst band in the history of music. The singer and his brother both dress up like ghetto rap punkers well i just made that up but u know what i mean and besides that and their horible mtv show the music is as geniricly pop crap that even people who can listen to friggin nysnc cant tolerate this shit cus maby nsync can actualy like preforme and sing well or something these guys have nothing. And to the review really are you sure u werent one of those 12 year old girls wearing and unseen or exploited shirt??
APO is the only band at this show i have any respect for, and that have any decent music out. Ive seen them many times since they played in front of liek 20 poeple in my town like 2 years ago i can agree with the reviewer though that they are nices guys and their music is far and beyond that of good charlotes no contest

    carb (October 30, 2002)

    "I'm just a kid ... life is a nightmare!"

I'll say, you good-life living Montreal tard. Christ, if worrying about being alone on a Friday night is the worst of your troubles, you definately should _not_ be complaining about, especially in an annoying, whiny song I hear every hour on the radio. Maybe if these guys were from Afghanistan, then I'd listen.

    Anonymous (October 30, 2002)

im sorry GC and a simple plan are boring "pop" music. they just want to suck the big cock of the music industy and their boyish looks. and autopilot off is pretty good, i saw them with 30 people at an american hifi show, but they werent "amazing" or anything, and geez why cant their be bands that mean something today, wheres the black flags, wheres the ramones, wheres nirvana. this "pop punk" is turning into 80s cheese metal, then some "revolutionary" band like nirvana did in the early ninties but whatever go buy "ad" clothes fuck that./

    Anonymous (October 30, 2002)

Why does good charlotte throw anarchy signs around their new music video, followed by a blatent plug for their new clothing company?

    Anonymous (October 30, 2002)

Or give them a swift kick in the nuts.

    xkattx (October 30, 2002)

so many damn people have this thing against the GC boys... because this and that and this. they can come up with dozens of excuses why they aren't any good.

BUT guess what? i don't give a damn. i know better. i had awesome times when their first album came out. my friends and i totally rocked out the first time we saw them play [with mxpx]. and so... they deserve some respect.

    give 'em love.

    Anonymous (October 30, 2002)

    the show was 13 bucks!

    waste_elite (October 30, 2002)

"good charlotte and simple plan on a tour together?!?!? AWWW SHITTTT!!!!"

yeah, that's right. i can almost hear a million obese 12 year old girls squealing in ecstacy. disturbing isn't it?

christ, this is garbage. pre-packaged, plastic "pop-punk" (i use the term very loosely) for the retarded.

    Anonymous (October 30, 2002)

I guess the main point is, if these girls actually listen to bands like Exploited & the unseen, they should know better than to shell out 30 buck to see good charlotte. Those guys suck ass more than your mom.

    Fuzzy (October 30, 2002)

I got your back Lalo. I know what you're sayin. Everytime I see a band and I see a member of the headliner on stage, stage diving, or singing along with the openers, it's damn cool. I may like like the GC as much as you, but they aren't nearly as bad as all the "punk rockers" here like to think. I thought the review was damn well written. And I'm not saying that just cause you gave me a good haircut tonite. ;)

    lalombriz (October 30, 2002)

just a really quick comment... i never once called the 12 year old girls "poseurs" (god i hate that word)... i was simply disturbed by those girls, coz i heard them talking... and they were talking about trl shit in a good way... so they were just wearing the shirts because benji wears them... c'mon... that's awesome if you like unseen or exploited... just don't do shit because the band does it... and to whoever put that i sounded like a 13 year old when saying that it was cool that benji stage dove, i am saying that it was cool coz that shows that he's not a goddamned prick that thinks he's better than everyone... and it's cool, coz it also shows that he was having fun... whatever....

    Anonymous (October 29, 2002)

the 5 is for autopilot off. good band, good guys. the only real pop-punk band i like that has some balls. unlike the girls i mean guys in simple plan whose testicles haven't descended yet. and good charlotte is a terrible band

    krowdsurf (October 29, 2002)

I can't believe the nerve of this douche bag going to a show by a band we don't like and actually having a good time. Fuck him, man. Fuck him.

    Anonymous (October 29, 2002)

good charlotte and simple plan on a tour together?!?!? AWWW SHITTTT!!!!

    Anonymous (October 29, 2002)

Let's get some shit straight idiots.....Simple Plan are an unoriginal, uninspiring POP band with guys who couldn't play their instruments if it were a life & death situation. Good Charlotte are another POP band who look like they went into hot topic and bought up all the hair dye and haor color and proclaim themselves "punk" because they spike their hair. First off these bands all suck....wether they were punk or not kiddies. Never have i seen such lame excuses for music....this sounds like stuff they would play over a Toys R Us instore radio for kids, or t Disneyland or on Nickelodeon....this isn't music....it's disposable garbage. IO mean, if you guys would admit that it is just dispoasble or just fun jokey shit then I'll say ok...if you like it fine.....but don't you DARE try to sell this shit as "music", because it is NOT.

    Anonymous (October 29, 2002)

pretty good review, but who are you to say those girls wearing the unseen shrits are poseurs?

to tell you the truth, the way you were talking about "if it was benji jumping into the crowd, that is nice of him," it sounds like you are 13 or something too.

simple plan are good, get a life. this tour sounds cool, I wish it came to the west coast. and for once, I agree with pat 41...the new GC album is horrible, 3 good songs, but the old one was very good

    Guy who posted below-

First off, you don't know Autopilot Off. Meeting them once at a show does not mean you know them.

Second, where are you getting any sort of information that they are now rich? There are way too many ignorant people that think a major label gives you ferraris and mansions. Just like any other job, you have to earn your money on a major. In fact, I think bands have to work harder once they're on a major.

Third, Brand New didn't play this show. Whoops.

Fourth, I agree with you that Good Charlotte is pretty wimpy. Simple Plan (not Brand New) is pretty terrible too. But Autopilot Off, above all other bands being grouped into pop-punk, is bringing an aggressiveness back to the genre. They are not wussy rock.

Last, I am right and you are wrong. Nuff said.

    Anonymous (October 29, 2002)

Ok "punkers," try to kick that brain into gear one more time, because im going to get you guys to the bottom of this. GOOD CHARLOTTE: Prime Demographic: Mtv watching, TRL voting 12 yr old girls. They dont work. But their parents do, and the parents love to share their money.
AUTOPILOT OFF: Island Records virgins. Home of Sum 41, Andrew WK, and Thursday. Just an example of what this label is capable of. (demographic: Mtv watching, TRL voting 12 yr old girls.)

Now i dont know about Brand New but something tells me its in the same vien. Now as big as these bands get, as much money as they make, as many votes they get on TRL.. All band members know one thing. One suppressed emotion that they will never admit too. That being? This music is wussy. There is not one tough gear in this entire pop machine. Point being? If your not a 12 yr old girl, your kidding yourself. Youve gone along for the ride with these bands and sold your soul to the devil. The difference is, is that theyre rich from it, and you just spent 15 dollars on a piece of trash cd. Now with that off my chest.

The review was horrible. Let me give my impression of a retard writing a GC review, with a pencil taped to its forhead. "They played all of the good songs off "Young and the Hopeless", and every other song they would do songs from their self titled."
The only reason i gave this 2 stars, is because i know the guys from APO, and as jealous as i am that they got all the money, there super nice guys.

    BostonMusicGuy (October 29, 2002)

OK, I really liked GC first album. Their wasnt a song on their that I would skip over but the new one blows. 4 good songs... if that. Simple Plan is a fucking joke. Talk about an annoying vocalist. And cheesy... my god by cheesiness. Anyway, I dont know Autopilot Off too well, but I like their old stuff (when they were cooter) and I hope they played some of that for you because its so much better than the couple of songs I heard from the Autopilot Off days. Reviews was ok... Same as everyone else's review of a concert.-BostonMusicGuy

    Anonymous (October 29, 2002)

I'll give APO credit for being on the bill of this show. I saw them with Snapcase a month ago and I was very surprised they are actually pretty decent.

Good Charlotte deserves no credit what is the big deal with this talentless band??

Anyway, good review by the writer for a well below average show.

    borntolose (October 29, 2002)

"If you can put the TRL bullshit and preconceptions, you will treat yourself to a good show."

    I can't.

That being said, damn fine review.

That being said, Simple Plan blows.

This must have been a horrible, corny ass pop music forray by these corporate boy toys who look like fashion excerpts from tenn people....how fucking lame. We live in terrible times when this shit qualifies as music.

This tour made the floor of Klub Phenomenon collapse in Freeport.

    Crazy.

My score is for Autopilot Off, they're keen.

i hate good charlotte with a passion. but the review was very well written. so i give it a 10, unlike the no use for a name show review. i like nufan, but the review was horrible so i gave it a 1.

Good Charlotte/Autopilot Off/Simple Plan... that's gotta be the shittiest line up ever. seriously, who would pay money for that garbage.

i don't understand why people say Autopilot Off put on a good live show. i had the misfortune of seeing these guys play a few months ago and it was one of the most castrated performances i've ever seen.

    yuck

Considering who you went to see I really enjoyed this review. Good work.
