i love Jet Black New Year. its an awesome song. one of the best.

Thursday just really seems like a one trick poney. They're the gateway drug for pop punk kids to get into hardcore. They're marijuana if Refused is opium and Dillinger Escape Plan is crack. But anyway, I'm not one of those anti-corporate guys but it just seems awfully anti-DIY to have to pay 10 bucks for 5 songs, when 4 of them are on full collapse (which is usually about 10 dollars) and there's just one new song. PLUS there is a bountiful amount of live thursday mp3s floating around the internet, AND thursday always talks about how people should burn their cds so why would you buy this?ryan (savingboyw@aol.com)

Why waste 10 bucks on a 4 live, 1 new song EP when you can go to Mickey D's dollar menu and get like 10 things!!! Anyway, I downloaded the song and its ok but not enough to praise this band.

"Jet Black New Year" is one of my favorite songs of this year. and yes, if their Island Debut sounds like that, I'il buy 2! Thursday is indeed the best live band I have seen thus far. At plea for peace (which was great, kudos to all bands), they had the most energy and got the best crowd response. geoff nearly took some heads off swinging the mic though.

Anyways This was a good cd. Though it only had 5 songs, the 5 songs are well played live and Jet Black New Year is a huge progression for Thursday. The Bonus disc is pretty cool too. It was well worth 10$.

Thursday are an awesome band and for what some people mistake as bad music is talent. If you don't like Thursday, don't comment and how much you don't like them and bad mouth them. Just simply say "I don't like Thursday (state your reason why you don't like them)" then say "It was a good/bad review." Don't sit here and bad mouth a great band, if you don't like them, fine. But they are great and that's all there is to it.

First off I would like to say that all the people who truly hate this band because they dont like their sound then I commend you however there are way too many people on this board who say that Thursday sucks because of a little thing called popularity. now my belief is if you can make money doing what you love without changing the person you are then more power to you. If you get popular and forget youre identity and change your entire self including your attitude and more importantly the music you play then thats where it becomes a problem. Im looking in your direction Blink 182. So if you hate Thursday because they are going to Island records fine, but show me proof that they have forgotten about their fans, the way they play music, or their way of thinking.

Second thing on the list: Thursday for the last time does not sound like ATDI. No one that displays a post on this board regaurding this comment has made a valid point. None. Prove me wrong people. Yes they have certain elements they feed off of eachother. Very few though and not distinct.

I'll be the first to admit i'm a cynical asshole, so on and so forth but no one can ignore the obvious.
Thursday as a band should be contractually allowed to set the prices for their records. Especially one such as this. The Clash did it for years as did Minor Threat to name a few. I hope Geoff tells everyone not to buy the thing at shows because that would be working towards redemption in these eyes.
As for the live antics of the member with the best haircut, I've seen them four times now and everytime it looks more and more ridiculous. Maybe the kid likes to prance around on stage in such an emotional way, if so more power to him but when he starts doing sign language and other gestures to make the girls (s)cream than of course you have to drop the NKOTB reference. Bravo for Geoff for doing his research and fiding the proven way to make kids spend 10 dollars.
This may seem like complete bullshit to everyone else but it just seems like so many bands like this come and go and all these super fans just don't seem to see what I see. well fuck me than i say. glad to see i brought about a little more hate on this thing since it was the last thing i really wanted to do.

Honestly, we don't. I wrote this review the day the ep came out, and it didn't get put up until well afterward.

Anyhoo, THURSDAY DOES SOUND LIKE AT THE DRIVE-IN! Their guitarist ripped alot of the spacey riffs on Full Collapse off of At the Drive-In's In/Casino/Out.

Yes, they are way crappier, and they change it up, but in my opinion thats the sound they are going for.

Of course no one can touch ATDI, don't be stupid... I wasn't saying that.

Well, naysayers be damned! For all you people out there saying the "live tracks suck" on this EP, Geoff apparently agrees. Last night at the show, a great one by the way, he said that most so-called "live" albums are really just taped to sound live in the studio, whereas their's is actually live. In any case, what these tracks do succeed in is conveying the intensity and heart of these guys live.

Furthermore, they played a killer set, as per usual, and peformed "Jet Black New Year," a song that you could tell left the crowd in awe. Let me just say if you think it sounds amazing on the EP, you gotta hear it live!

As a comment to the guy/girl below who complained about Thursday making us all pay $10 for only one new song...remember that it's Victory who put this out. If your band was signed to a major, would you want to let your former label have distribution rights to your new material? This was smart on Thursday's part. If you're really that pissed about it, wait for the full length.

I thought this EP was pretty good. Jet Black New Year is a good song, and all the other songs have more energy then they did on the album.
Also will you people stop saying that Thursday sounds like atdi? You all sound pretty lame repeating eachother, making unessesary comments about Thursday. And Geoffs voice maybe different but he sings alot better then alot of singers ive heard... Geddy Lee, Tom Delong, Dani Filth ect...

ok first of all how exactly is it that you know that this is all a show, that its not real emotion but just a rehearsed act live?
second theyre not just releasing this ep to make money. i doubt they will even make much money off it. much more money comes from touring and merch sales than from cds. i am actually happy that they released something before the new album. if u read in the booklet one of the stories talks about the troubles they have had writing new material and the conflict between the group. thats why there isnt that much new stuff. and whats so bad about the live tracks, i like them. if u dont want to spend the money then dont buy it. or burn it, ive seen the band endorse that kinfd of thing.

I can't believe Thursday got away with this marketing scheme for all you scenester kids out there. They charge you 10 dollars for one new track which is pretty mediocre(i'll get to that) and a bunch of live tracks to prove to all the die hard fans how "raw" they are. No matter what your lips stay tightly wrapped around Geoff's phallus. While the rest of you clean the food between the huge gap in his teeth. Ridiculous.
This just seems like blashphemy, as if a band who honestly gives a shit about putting out good music would try this retard shit. I would figure the biggest fans would join in with the nay sayers to reject this gift wrapped peice of shit. Contractual obligation or not they could have just rereleased the first album or put out a greatest hits album at least let the good people know that your just trying to move in on to bigger and better pay checks.
I've seen the band live and all the overwhelmingly cute heart felt, hard core indie stage presence was nothing short of rehearsed. The overall sound of the band was good although they looked like the might be posing for a hot topic ad. Geoff on the other hand looked like an emo Jim Morrison with hand gestures that would make even the most flaming homosexual shriek in jealousy. I think he might have even stolen some moves from Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo. It was a show alright, a show put on not out of honest feeling an intense performance but put on two make all you kids go buy a 10 dollar e.p. with on new track.
As for this new jem. I've heard the recording and I heard it live on the Plea for Peace a few days ago. The only thing I really liked about the thing was the guitar part and they generally have good guitar parts in the songs thanks to that big fat guy who sits in the back of the stage and just plays the songs. kudos to him. You can tell he is the brains of the operation. Geoff sounds pretty flat and the screaming of Jet Black sounds like the Old Woman demon on Evil Dead 2. horrible.
I've got to say i like the cover art on the ep. It might look artsy but it shows them for who they truly are thats for sure. mannequins how perfect. pehapr you could find the same dolls in your local hot topic. They are the New Kids on The Block of the heart-core scene. I wonder if the keyboard player is more like Jordan or Donny. Oh well I could go on but i'd rather not. enjoy.

At The Drive In rules, but they sound nothing like Thursday....At The Drive In were intense.....Thursday tries to be intense, but ends up looking like a screaming boy band.

how exactly does atdi sound so much like thursday, i love both bands but they are really not that similar. atdi's sound is a lot less conventional id say than thursday's. their singers sound completely different, atdi does not really scream all that much in their songs, their lyrics are totally different, the feel of the music is just differnt, atdi has a more "fun" sound thursday has a more sad and emotional sound, the guitar is also a lot different, theyre not really all that much alike

i think thrusday sound like a really lousy version of at the drive in.. sorry if you think different. atdi were cool.. thursday should be shot. in the head. by the next sniper. thursday sucks. victory sucks. island def jam sucks. oh yea.. thursday sucks.

It's been a long time for these guys hailing from New Jersey to release a record. Last year their debut full length succeeded in creating a stellar release. Its was witty and original despite the cries of a copy cat version of At the Drive In. Getting to the top ten list of several people it won its spot as a exceptional cd. Now the waiting is over as this new cd will be the last on Victory for the soon to be major labelers, but who wants a five song ep with four live tracks and one new song. One new moment to enjoy the young talented band. One song. One chance to prove Thursday is truly a machine out of control.

As I was saying there are four live tracks consisting of your favorites: "Autobiograghy of a Nation," Understanding in a Car Crash," "Standing on the Edge of Summer," and the always intense "Paris in Flames." In whole these songs are well recorded live songs. At a few points in the disc you can't hear whats being said, but of course that is live folks take it or leave it.

Understanding in a Car Crash is sang a little faster at times then normal which gives you more of the live feel. Another point about the live songs would be an unusual part at the end of Understanding in a Car Crash where the music kind of changes and new lyircs are added. A short but excellent addition.

The moment everyone is waiting for, and the main reason people will puchase this record. The song "Jet Black New Year" just became my favorite Thursday song. Why? Because its different, innovative, moving, extremely intense, and plain fucking amazing. This song is quite possibly worth all ten dollars I dished out for this record, and if this is going to be the new Thursday then they are on their way to being a band of influence if not already. The first part of the song is a fast palm muted riff, with the drums kicking in seconds later with a swift break neck pace. It builds up into one of the sweetest intros I've ever heard. When the vocals start up they are sung loud over the music with layered guitars. The singing echos which puts you in a trance. The part that is the best about hsi song is the screaming chant of "jet black." Its quite possibly the most chilling scream I have heard.

I gave Full Collapse last year five stars and a lot of rotation. This cd exceeds my expectations for a five song ep with blasting live tracks and one new song. One new moment to enjoy the young talented band. One song. One chance to prove Thursday is truly a machine out of control. One song that blew up my world.
