I never really liked Thursday. With all the hype surrounding them since the release of Full Collapse I figured I would pick up the aforementioned LP. I thought it blew. I still think it blows. They sound like At the Drive-In with a singer who can't stay in key.

Thursday just really seems like a one trick poney. They're the gateway drug for pop punk kids to get into hardcore. They're marijuana if Refused is opium and Dillinger Escape Plan is crack. But anyway, I'm not one of those anti-corporate guys but it just seems awfully anti-DIY to have to pay 10 bucks for 5 songs, when 4 of them are on full collapse (which is usually about 10 dollars) and there's just one new song. PLUS there is a bountiful amount of live thursday mp3s floating around the internet, AND thursday always talks about how people should burn their cds so why would you buy this?ryan (savingboyw@aol.com) what the hell is wrong with gaps in your teeth? i have one. anyway blah blah blah, blah. you guys are really beating this shit to death. the fact is, you can download the new songs or not. it depends on if you like live songs, and if you want to spend your money on them or not. suck it This is pop rock and it sounds like they went overboard with the protools. I'd be so pissed if I was Thursday and Victory put a cd of their other bands in my record. I think thats just shitty. Why waste 10 bucks on a 4 live, 1 new song EP when you can go to Mickey D's dollar menu and get like 10 things!!! Anyway, I downloaded the song and its ok but not enough to praise this band. "Jet Black New Year" is one of my favorite songs of this year. and yes, if their Island Debut sounds like that, I'il buy 2! Thursday is indeed the best live band I have seen thus far. At plea for peace (which was great, kudos to all bands), they had the most energy and got the best crowd response. geoff nearly took some heads off swinging the mic though. What losers ' Thursday sounds like At The Drive In. ' ' Thursdays an At The Drive In rip off band. ' ' I dont like Thursday cause of their hair cuts ' Cry me a fucking river you assholes. This is a REVIEW OF A CD. This isn't for what you think they sound or iif you like them or not. I know half the people that have posted and said Thursday sucks, havent heard Five Stories Falling. So please fuck off, got a problem with it? Too Bad. This is for the sick fuck who said that thursday should be shot by the sniper: Fuck you,you mindless idiot,go suck off your dad!Cumstain! Hey, I heard the new Sum-41 song. It sounds totally different from their other stuff.Faster and harder. Oh yeah, Thursday rocks. Why hasn't anyone commented on the extra disc that comes with the CD? I thought the Thursday disc, plus the video disc, was worth the $9.00. i dont like thursday.. i think its something about their hair cuts that pisses me off. Thursday are an awesome band and for what some people mistake as bad music is talent. If you don't like Thursday, don't comment and how much you don't like them and bad mouth them. Just simply say "I don't like Thursday (state your reason why you don't like them)" then say "It was a good/bad review." Don't sit here and bad mouth a great band, if you don't like them, fine. But they are great and that's all there is to it. First off I would like to say that all the people who truly hate this band because they dont like their sound then I commend you however there are way too many people on this board who say that Thursday sucks because of a little thing called popularity. now my belief is if you can make money doing what you love without changing the person you are then more power to you. If you get popular and forget youre identity and change your entire self including your attitude and more importantly the music you play then thats where it becomes a problem. Im looking in your direction Blink 182. So if you hate Thursday because they are going to Island records fine, but show me proof that they have forgotten about their fans, the way they play music, or their way of thinking. "oh yea.. thursday.. they're like this really cool band from jersey.. the next at the drive in or something. its cool- they all have great haircuts and wear blue jeans with like tight tshirts.. just keeping it real. you should check them out" michael stipe dances around weirder than Geoff does and he is considered a legend and is respected in all musical circles. what the fuck does dancing around have anything to do with their music? how would telling the kids to buy the cd at shows be redemption when he already tells the kids to download it and not bother to pay for it? ummm ok, "Geoff is only telling people to download it instead of buying it because they're not on Victory anymore - why put any more money in their pockets? " I heard Geoff say the download thing along time ago when they were still on, and happy with victory records. And thursday sounds nothing like fugazi. So that wouldn't make sense that most of you say thursday copied atdi, and atdi copied fugazi. Try it in a equation, it flat doesn't work. And probably none of what I just said makes any sense, oh well. what riffs did he "rip-off"? name one. I don't hear it. I am just posting to respond to the guy who said "why do we need to reviews for one mediocre song?" Well, naysayers be damned! For all you people out there saying the "live tracks suck" on this EP, Geoff apparently agrees. Last night at the show, a great one by the way, he said that most so-called "live" albums are really just taped to sound live in the studio, whereas their's is actually live. In any case, what these tracks do succeed in is conveying the intensity and heart of these guys live. I like how we can go through the likes of Fugazi, Thursday, At the Drive In and New Kids on the Block in one review. Geoff is only telling people to download it instead of buying it because they're not on Victory anymore - why put any more money in their pockets? Great review...it took me a while to get into Jet black New Year, but it was worth it. as far as the dumbshit who says thursday is putting this out to make money.......ive seen them 6 times, and at each show since they've started having mtv play, Geoff has encouraged the crowd to download their shit rather than pay for it. now if you call that greedy, you must be pretty fucking confused. oh wait, you people actually paid for this one new song? hi, i'd like to introduce you to the INTERNET. have you met? i think you should talk. fuck the RIAA, and fuck poor releases. does this make sense to everyone else? As a comment to the guy/girl below who complained about Thursday making us all pay $10 for only one new song...remember that it's Victory who put this out. If your band was signed to a major, would you want to let your former label have distribution rights to your new material? This was smart on Thursday's part. If you're really that pissed about it, wait for the full length. I thought this EP was pretty good. Jet Black New Year is a good song, and all the other songs have more energy then they did on the album. So this site needs 2 reviews for one ok song? 2 that say the exact same thing pretty much huh. Not complaining really... just saying its a little unneccassary.-BostonMusicGuy ok first of all how exactly is it that you know that this is all a show, that its not real emotion but just a rehearsed act live? Congratulations to the guy below me. You have no idea what your talking about. *applause* uh ok i've never posted on this before so be patient. fuck i love both of those bands. the only reason why people call thursday an at the drive-in rip off is because they like to name drop the "in" band from 2 years ago so that they sound cool. its fucking lame. both of them were/are good bands. and both are different. At The Drive In rules, but they sound nothing like Thursday....At The Drive In were intense.....Thursday tries to be intense, but ends up looking like a screaming boy band. guys, honestly, if you're a self righteous shit with nothing positive or interesting to say, don't spout idiocy. we have a large corporate owned media that has that shit on lockdown. making unsubstantiated claims about a band's style with no support is a waste of my time. if you're going to say something, say something of substance. how exactly does atdi sound so much like thursday, i love both bands but they are really not that similar. atdi's sound is a lot less conventional id say than thursday's. their singers sound completely different, atdi does not really scream all that much in their songs, their lyrics are totally different, the feel of the music is just differnt, atdi has a more "fun" sound thursday has a more sad and emotional sound, the guitar is also a lot different, theyre not really all that much alike i think thrusday sound like a really lousy version of at the drive in.. sorry if you think different. atdi were cool.. thursday should be shot. in the head. by the next sniper. thursday sucks. victory sucks. island def jam sucks. oh yea.. thursday sucks. Still, there are plenty of great bands who are Fugazi rip-offs...i.e. Cursive, ATDI, Q and not U... at the drive-in is a Fugazi rip-off so everybody who speaks of them like gods should shut the fuck up. At The Drive In and Thursday are very good in their own way. Very good. But people they sound nothing and I mean nothing alike. I wish people would get over with that stupid conversation. Aiight, I really like thursday, and especially the, er, new song, but it makes me think "tool", not ATDI or anything. I'm probably alone on this one, but it sounds like they're slowly progressing to become tool, undertow era. I'm really into Thursday, and have been into At the Drive In even longer...and where exactly are people drawing a comparison? Did not like them before, downloaded "Jet Black....whatever", still don't like em. Put down the crackpipe kids, this ain't rockin. It's been a long time for these guys hailing from New Jersey to release a record. Last year their debut full length succeeded in creating a stellar release. Its was witty and original despite the cries of a copy cat version of At the Drive In. Getting to the top ten list of several people it won its spot as a exceptional cd. Now the waiting is over as this new cd will be the last on Victory for the soon to be major labelers, but who wants a five song ep with four live tracks and one new song. One new moment to enjoy the young talented band. One song. One chance to prove Thursday is truly a machine out of control. you need to stop listening to nickelback. or earth crisis. jet black new year is the best song i've heard this decade so far. | Features
