Well, it was only a matter of time that the other 2/3s of the Alkaline Trio did split CDs, as Matt Skiba's split with Kevin Seconds came out on Asian Man a month ago. Little did anyone suspect that former Trio drummer Mike Felumlee would be doing a split *with* Trio bassist Dan Andriano - apparently the bad blood within the band is contained between Mike and Matt [so the rumor goes]. But anyways, enough drama, onto the music:

Dan im waiting to make a record with you give me a call man i need your sounds help me out give me a call at 502 543-3950 From Raymond IF YOU'RE JUST TUNING IN............ Calling people retards is real intelligent. I hope these guys are really proud of the people that follow them. I really think the whole idea of this record is silly. I do give Mike F. credit for replying in a nice way to things, but I hope he says something to his fans about using ignorance to back him up. "You guys all are retards besides mike and the guy who said you all are retards. This is a great split, Mike and Dan are both great guys. The Trio are good. Were better with Glenn and Mike and are still good Derek. I hope the people who were saying solo records are rock star bullshit, mike lives with his parents, and then themselves barely communicating in english were joking, as I think they were so yeah .. if they were serious then wow that's some stupidity at work." yea i went to the halloween show. it was pretty hard to hear dan but i thought a good show overall. especially those free 7". You guys all are retards besides mike and the guy who said you all are retards. This is a great split, Mike and Dan are both great guys. The Trio are good. Were better with Glenn and Mike and are still good Derek. I hope the people who were saying solo records are rock star bullshit, mike lives with his parents, and then themselves barely communicating in english were joking, as I think they were so yeah .. if they were serious then wow that's some stupidity at work. Just for the record, I don't live with my parents. I am a parent and have been for 5 years. Also, I wouldn't call myself a rockstar either. I do solo records because I'm not in a band. Alkaline is still better than s lot of crap out there now, but yes they're not what they used to be. Solo albums aren't for rockstars. I bet hardly anyone is going to buy this, not enough where they'll make so much money you could call it a marketing scheme. What a dickhead. alkaline blows ass now. had they not gotten huge egos and kicked out 2 drummers for no reason, then maybe they could have done something creative. but after hearing 2 cd's being combined and turned into a 3rd really pisses me off. they're one of few bands that managed to go way down hilla fter only 3 records matt skiba is a knob stroke. dan adriano got a small penis. mike felumlee still lives with his parents. these guys aren't rock stars. "SOLO ALBUMS ARE ROCK STAR BULLSHIT!" anyone hit the halloween show last night? pretty bad ass, although you could barely hear dan singing and when matt harmonized with him there was no chance. This record is complete crap and so is the whole idea of it. Get a life Mike Felumlee/Dan Andriano find another way to stroke your egos. 3 songs each and ones a Tuesday cover? Marketing at its best once again. If somebody isn’t going to do it right maybe they shouldn’t do it at all. In the case of this record there is no point to it. The Matt Skiba one was bad enough, Dan Andriano could have at least been more creative and done something different. This is the current generation of punk rock? SOLO ALBUMS ARE ROCK STAR BULLSHIT! Think of something new you dicks. lets not be too hard on skiba now. i thought his split with kevin seconds was pretty decent. after seeing dan preform his solo stuff live at the metro last month, i will deffinatley check out this new split Sorry if I don't own every album Jimi, however I do own 3 so I think I've heard more than just 2 of Dan's songs (and by I think I mean I know). I said I only own a few and made a comment based on that. If that makes me a dork then so be it, but you are twice the fucking jackass for being offended I don't own every fucking album. Eat a dick up motherfucker. I like Matt's songs better in general, except for 'You've got so far to go' and 'maybe I'll catch fire'. That song must be one of their best songs. Along with Bleeder, Radio, My little Needle, She took him to the lake, Steamer Trunk and Take lots with alcohol, Man i better stop, I'm giving myself a hard-on.... hahahahah, whoa man, what a comment!!! This guy rules!! you guys are all retards i prefer matt to dan. not to say dan's a bad songwriter, but all of my favorite trio songs are done by matt. Like it or not unless you're from Chicago and saw alkaline back in the begining before they got bigger they were much better before. Live, recorded, with glen porter they were so much better pre-from here to infirmary. There was nothing like seeing them at the fireside bowl a few years ago. Eat shit if you don't beleive me. The bottom line is, no one is trying to act cool saying glen porter is the best drummer of A3. Comming from Chicago and seeing them play back when they started and seeing their progression and listening to all their releases it's pretty easy to see they've gone downhill and that's partially cause of glen's absense. He was amazing live. once again, why did mike leave the trio? "Dan hasn't written a shitty song like Matt has" ""She took him to the lake" and "another innocent girl?" Otherwise, Dan's songs are far superior" oops do they both write the songs they sing? if not they must have taken the same creative writing seminar because they're awfully similar in structure. i dont recall ever seeing any credits and i dont have their albums at my disposal, so if anyone could enlighten me with something more than an opinion, it would be much obliged. tbones, you're right on...except I still think Glenn is the best damn drummer I ever saw live...but honestly, Mike was the ONLY guy to replace him at the time...anybody else, and the band might as well have called it quits...and well, they should right now if you ask me... I've got a few Alk 3 releases and I have to say, almost every Skiba song is good while almost every Andriano song is boring. Just my two cents. http://www.colossalrock.com/ As Scott has stated this split is FAR superior to the Skiba solo stuff, which as much as it hurts to admit...SUCKED HARD. The lyrics were trite and the music sounded like something on Shining Time Station (or the poppier tracks on "The Places You've come to fear the most"...don't know which one is worse) I was shocked to see how great Mike sounds behind the mike and I personally champion his side of the split. The best buy for 10 bucks going around these days. (Unless you want to count that mindfuck that is Thursday-5 stories falling....please note sarcasim) P.S. Derek just doesn't do it for me...I saw all 3 drummers play and although I'm not from Chicago so my opinion might not matter as much (rolls eyes), I personally Mike did the best job behind the kit. Not to mention the freakin guy LOOKED like a skeleton. saw this record last nigh at the alkaline show in detroit and now i kinda wish i would've picked it up... Rob has been playing with Josh and Eli in Duvall since Mike left. Before that, he played in Mike's touring band this summer during the Double Zero Records Tour. Amazing drummer and amazing vocals. i need to pick this cd up. but i was happy to hear that dan chose Rob from slapstick and tuesday to play drums on his songs. slapstick is one of my favorite cds and you may not agree, but i love rob's drumming style. Anyone know what he's been up to lately? playing in another band that i haven't heard of perhaps? i thought the Trio could do no wrong... then they released From Here to Infirmary. all the other albums are golden though. ok... so i haven't heard this split yet, but i can say that i'm excited as hell to listen to both dan and mike... i only have a couple of things to say respecting the comments i've read... how the fuck can you say that "the talent" of the trio is with dan... both he and matt are goddamned geniouses... i love every single song that they have put out... and the skiba/seconds split has incredible songs that show how good matt can be... every single album that alkaline trio has put out has been amazing and i am soo excited to hear the new one (coming out in the spring or something)... alkaline trio has not become bland or any shit like that... that's my opinion... but whatever... but for now i'll say goodbye and go underground... scott raynor.... ahh yes, the dousche bag who pulled out just a little too soon... coulda been famous buddy this reminds me how of how all the blink-182 fans think scott raynor was the best drummer. people should realize that it doesn't make you any cooler to know one of the old drummers. derek might be one of the best drummers the trio have had in a long time. he brings back some fire to the band's live set. Mike fit so well in alk3, saying he is only the drummer shows right away you dont know what you're talking about. Glenn was good, but I've always been a Felumlee fan from the Popes/trio/duvall, he is quite a talent. No one could do what glen porter did. He brought a style that fit the bands overall sound and helped make it what it was. He played a fairly complex style that wasn't as typical punk rock sounding as the second two. I do think that since his leaving, A3 hasen't been the same, but it's also because a lot of the songs have gotten more generic and lost that emotional rawness they once had. Plus matt seems to recycle his lyrics more than ever. Their best stuff is still the first 2 CDs and the self titled one. "It wasn't like he was an original member" Skiba's solo effort mediocre? Are you deaf? Matt did a great job on the split with Kevin Seconds. Those songs feel right in place with all the other songs released since Alk3's last album. This is a great split, but so are matt's songs on his split. Chicago is still better than your city. look, you say "one of chicago's best bands, tuesday." - the usage of the word best connotates your opinion, therefore it is easily discarded (especially because tuesday were boring - live and on cd). to say "two of chicago's most well known musicians" means that there is some criteria - ie FAME. just because everyone on this board knows who blake schwarzenbach is does not mean you can call him "one of america's most well-known songwriters". follow me? I can't wait to hear this split. But I just wanted to say this was a really well written review, although I disagree with your view on Matt's split with Kevin Seconds. Its incredible in my opinion. However, its my opinion not yours so I'm not saying you're wrong. Again, excellent review. Cheers! I link to mp3s if the label/band provides mp3s for download. Voice your complaint to Double Zero Records, sir/madam. Scotty used to garnish his reviews with mp3s. Nevermore? whoa, more people have heard of Billy Corgan, therefore he must be better. hey, they ARE two of chicagos most well known musicians...he didn't say they were the only one's asshole... why did mike leave the trio anyway? I need to move to Chicago, the Pittsburgh scene sucks ass. "two of Chicago's most well-known musicians" - hahahahahahahah. yeah i guess more people know of them than, say, nash kato, liz phair, billy corgan, steve albini or dozens of other chicago musicians. i liked skibas solo stuff, even though he could have added bridges to them. |
