Remember the first time you listened to Crass or Dead Kennedys? I sure do. I can still remember at first being terrified of the noise that was be blasted from my speakers, all at once it was loud, abrasive, shrieking, feedback, and vocalist that I could barely listen too. But while my initial reaction was to turn off the stereo and take this disc of noise out, I stopped because underneath all of that there was some being said, a message that with the music and the singing confronted the listener and challenged them to rethink their position in the world. It made you question what was happening in the world and learn more about what you are being told, and dared you to think for yourself. Well flash forward several years, now Crass and DKs are two of my favorite bands and I have trouble remembering the last time I had that same reaction to music, that was until about two months ago when Scott handed me a CD by a group called Vortis to review. “Well this should be interesting” I thought, “I’ll see what the Fellow Traveler (a 60 year old philosophy professor from Purdue) can do”. the guy who said that theres no resemblance to crass should be raped and shot liek an el savador child in the late 80's just because it's "punk" and a couple of the members have some credibility does't mean it's good. These guys suck with a capital Q This is a retarded name for an album. Can't these guys be a little more original or clever? this is bullshit. i thought this was gonna be a toto cover. Hey....again......I'd still rather listen to this over and over while being stabbed than anything by Good Charlotte, New Found Glory or Simple Plan. This mp3 is ok, it's kind of a guilty pleasure, it's got a catchy beat and is original. I dontm ind the fact that he's 60, I mean, Danzig is almost 50 and Iggy Pop must be about 60 and i still listen to them. "Good this band" was, of course, meant to read "Could this band". No excuses. I don't see how this can be compared to the Dead Kennedys or Crass at all. Crass and the Dead Kennedys had really good music. The Dead Kennedy's had superb lyrics, Crass had lots of good lyrics along with some pretty bad ones. Good this band be trying any harder to make a point? These guys lay the leftist rhetoric on thicker than Anti-Flag, and that isn't a good thing. Jello Biafra is probably more to the left than the members of this band, yet he was able to convey his thoughts without making me laugh (not at them, though often with them). making me angry by playing horrible music doesnt help his cause much if it just makes me want to shut it off. im not gunna sit thru some ear bloodying drivle just so i can "get the message." it's supposed to make you angry. im sorry, politically informed or not, this is some of the worst shit i have ever heard in all my entirety. i dont care if the guy is 16 or 60 or if he teaches in purdue or the parking lot. take this mans microphone AWAY. I always liked the way the Kennedys sounded and the lyrics just made it better, but anyway, ill have to check this out. I have seen them live and heard the cd. I just think if you have a strong opinion and a message to get accross, the music should be decent-at least listenable...The music on this cd is far from both of these things Actually scott he teaches at purdue univeristy, also to the person below, you really have to listen to these songs more than once for it to click, try listening to the mp3 a few more times and see if it gets better Just for the record, Jim DeRogeatis [or however you spell that], rock critic/author of the Lester Bangs biography [which is excellent] plays drums for Vortis. I thought your review was good so I gave the mp3 a listen...No offense, but I didnt like it...oh well, to each his own |
