H2O used to rule. I remember when I got "Thicker Than Water" from Epitaph when it first came out, and I was blown away. I played that album nonstop, dubbed it for my car tape deck, saw the band live on the Warped Tour, bought their back catalog, and all was well. Then "F.T.T.W." came out, and I wasn't as much of a fan. The hardcore seemed to be on a downturn, although the album still packed one hell of a punch.

Then "Go!" came out.

"Go!" was horrible. The music went completely bland and generic, the label tried to push the hidden cover song as the single, and Toby's voice went straight to shit on the recording. I saw the band live last summer on the Warped Tour again and they still had it - even the new material sounded decent. I just chalked it up to too many A&R Reps standing over the boards telling the engineers what to do.

Now, we have the brand new "All We Want" EP.

And it's terrible.

This band has absolutely no passion or energy anymore, at least on recording. "All We Want" is an absolutely horrible mid-tempo number that reminds me too much of Pennywise's "The World" for comfort. "Static" is the best song out of the new three, sounding the most like the band's older, faster material [the production still sucks on it, though, and sucks any life that might have been there right out of the track]. The third song, "Wrong," is just as slow and boring as "All We Want." There's nothing special about the songs at all.

The band does include two live tracks on here - "Role Model" and "Memory Lane." They were the two best songs off "Go!", and they sound infinitely better live, mainly because Toby actually sounds normal in these live recordings, opposed to the "nuts-in-the-vice" voice present on "Go!". But even these recordings sound incredibly low-budget - I have bootlegs of bands that sound cleaner than this.

To add insult to injury, MCA bleeped out the swear words on the live tracks! I'm not some huge advocate for swearing or something, but c'mon, H2O - stand up for yourselves against MCA before the label completely ruins you!

Oh yeah, the video for "Role Model" is also included on the disc, and it's actually a pretty good video [I wouldn't have known, since I don't think it ever got played ever]. So all in all, you have three brand new, absolutely horrid songs [I'd say they're the worst of the band's career], two decent live tracks, and one overlooked video. Is this worth it? Not unless you really, really are a fan.

A really, really big fan.

Don't forget your roots, H2O.

What the fuck is wrong with all of you???? Just because H2O is on MCA doesn't mean they sold out. If they are sellouts for that, that means that the Sex Pistols were sellouts in '77, The Clash were sellouts and the Ramones were sellouts because they were on Sire recods which is Warner Bros. So fuck that shit.

So what their sound has changed, they are growing up as a band. I've been into H2O since Thicker Than Water came out and everything they've done has improved. The self titled record is still my favorite but F.T.T.W. Go and All We Want are all great. If you don't want to grow up that's fine but let them.

    Don't Forget Your Roots.

shit man... imagine if toby h2o sees these comments, along with other comments on other msg boards on the internet about how crappy they are now. i'm sure that guy's gonna cry a fucking river.

it'd be better if toby says sorry to the fans (even tho he don't owe shit, but it's out of respect anyways), get his major label album agreements done, go back underground, and start touring with acts like, say, hatebreed or between the buried and me, or at least shit that sounds like thrice for god fucking sake!

what the feck?!?! h2o? more like h2crapass... i saw these guys about twenty times before fttw came out and was never disappointed once. and they were good guys. i got to meet them on st. marks one day as they were out handing out their own flyers. how d.i.y. is that?!?! sure they were always a better live band then in the studio but that's not to say thier first two albums weren't good either. but go??? i mean i could care less if it was on a major label, it just plain sucked. they should go back to playing "my love is real", now that was some sick shit.

Do H20 ever headline their own tours anymore? My god, these guys had it made. Epitaph, MR.Brett perfecting the H20 sound with the production on fttw. I couldnt believe an article I read in a mag the things these idiots said. "we had some really great melodies going into the studio for fttw. Brett kept telling us to yell more. It was like we were his nyhc pet band." Oh my god, I couldnt believe what i had just read. Thank god for Brett for giving us the last taste of once a truley great band. Iam so glad that when I look at my cd tower all i see is the S/T record and fttw.

I have lost ALL of my faith in H2O. Don't get me wrong, Toby is one hell of a guy, as is Todd, Todd, Rusty and Adam. But last night I went and saw them live, for my fifth and last time. I payed 25 bucks just to see them and boy did it suck. I mean there live sound has changed ALOT. It went from fast and aggressive to happy and poppy. I guess you could liken it to an aggressive New Found Glory or something. Anyways it's too bad. Ohhh and in the song "Well behaved" instead of singin "I miss death and glory" they said "I missed new found glory" and all of the girls up front screamed there head off. I left in the middle of the set. Mark my word, The Boxcar racer/H2O tour is the WORST tour of the year. EASILY!!

h2o's first self-titled album on Blackout! Records was the best most ground breakin CD i had ever heard when i was 16. I listened to it everyday for over a year. Its still in my top 10 of all time list.
And when my band was just starting out, i met H20 a bunch of times and they sold my bands demo at their table and wore our Tshirts on stage for years. Ill never forget that and they will always be awsome to me for that.
As for all there other albums....no comment. But Great Guys. There demo 7" before the CD was out was fuckin awsome too. If the Mask Fits (the real version) is still my favorite H2O song.
If you like the first H2O CD, youll love the new 12cent CD. Its really in the spirit of that first album. fast, catchy, Hard and honest. With a sense of humor too. Check out the sounds at www.12cent.com.
The New CD "Bastard Music" comes out in a week, anyone who lieks the first H2O CD will definitly be into it.

i just got back from the boxcar racer/h2o/used show. my god it was pathetic. i mean, h2o is still a great live act, no doubt about it. but i'll sum up the night when toby asked the 13 year old blink-boxcar loving pre-pubescent crowd if anyone had their album fttw . . . i think i was one of the dozen or so people who raised their hands out of the crowd of 1000. toby kept having to rile up the crowd. sadly, it has come down to toby needing to constantly during their set clapping his hands vigorously to wake the crowd up. h2o needs to wake the fuck up, get off this fucking major label, and save some face as if they haven't lost a lot already. i really don't have a problem with the bands they tour with. i have more of a problem with their sound which sounds like nfg right now.

Bono is doing a lot more than you'd expect. He is more than talk. He acts on what he believes on. He's not superman, but he does what he can and he does it with heart. More than the average reader or person would do if they could, most likely.
If you want an example that may touch home, Bono payed for most (if not all) of Joey Ramone's hospital bills.

I agree, U2 are a bunch of fakes, hell, Bono is probably a fucking government agent. If you really wanna help people, help them grow food or build them some homes, which they really need, rather then "saying" you care. Actions speak louder than words Mr. Bono. U2 sucks. If only Bono were serious about helping people, rather than a fake, who goes to Africa in his $300 clothes and poses with the locals pretending he cares, if he cared he'd live with them for a few months without his "crew" and I bet he'd change a lot, that would help a lot more than "posing". He'd probably die. Anyway, this was for the guy who said that U2 was so great. Also, H2O has gone downhill for a long time. The last thing they did that I liked was their cover of "Nazi Punks Fuck Off!", and that was way back in 1998, so they have basically become a much more talenmted version of New Found Glory, which still sucks.

H2O.... argh, I cant hate them. They were good.. amazing even. H2O was always one of those bands you'd expect to hear in a "best show ever" conversation, the type of band whose logo people would get tattoos of. NYHC means something, and they embodied it.

But... they abandoned all of that. They went and turned into fucking pussies getting assraped by the system and the only thing I can feel is sad. The only chance you get to see them live is with shitty drive thru bands, and maybe they still have some of the power that they used to, but their crowd is filled with 14 year old girls, and even if I start dancing, or if there are a few people there to have some fun, its NEVER going to be the same. H2O is dead. Its worse than breaking up because they cant just get back together and make it all better. If they're gonna regain the admiration and respect they once had, they're gonna need to start from square one and rebuild the trust of their fans.

I'm a huge Sick of it All fan and I will admit that their latest stuff is not up to par, but at least it has a little more sincerity going for it.

I have heard F.T.T.W and thicker than water also and I must say I wasn't totally impressed, but this album is shit. The song role model is bad and so is that fact that appears on the disc twice (i dont care if its a video). I'm not sure what is being accomplished here. Maybe H20 os trying to end their MCA contract by putting out shitty records.

When will H2O wise up. The new cds are to poppy for old fans, while the live show is still to heavy to win over the NFG, Boxcar Racer fans that are seeing them live. What I'm hoping is that MCA will drop them & H2O, realizing the error of their ways, would go back & put out a cd with some balls ala s/t, Thicker Than Water.

H2O... sigh... for some stupid reason I still have faith that they'll turn around and remember who they were.

Remember when they toured with bands like Sick Of It All, Madball, Agnostic Front and Rancid? Remember how Toby was such a Sick Of It All fan that he actually roadied for them for years?

Now who do they tour with? Boxcar Racer, Sum 41, New Found Glory? I hope thats working out for them.

H2O is undeniably good live and have shown they can do so much better than GO and this new EP... I know Toby took some vocal lessions but that dosent excuse the over-produced sound you get here.

    Oh well... one day...

I saw these guys at warped 01.....and they seemed like a great band painfully trying to brcome a terrible "new found glory"ish band, what a shame.

FTTW was so good, even the poppy stuff was great, but Go was horrible. They had such a huge fanbase after FTTW that just ignored go, myself included.

sadly, the last time these guys came here (pitssburgh) there was like no one there.does anyone respectthese guys anymore? i mean they rule live, but if i was ever lame enough to call a band sellouts, it think h20 would be that band.ehhh.

"Bleeped out the swear words on the live tracks??? Damn!! That sounds so lame...
Great live band, but if there is a band that truly needs to be labeled as 'sellouts' its H2O...
