Bad Religion - New Maps of Hell (Deluxe)

I did not want to go to this show, but not because I hated the bands. The weather was horrible. It was very cold and raining so bad, that I could hardly see more than 15 feet in front of my car. I slid off the road a few times, so I almost didn’t make it at all. But hey it’s Thrice and Hot Water Music, so I took one for the team. So glad I did.

I have never heard anything good or bad about Coheed & Cambria. I had no idea what kind of music they were, or what to expect. I only half paid attention but I thought they were pretty damn good. The lead singer’s voice sounded like a man-chick but hey, they can call that their signature sound. Their music was a little more intense than I am used to, but I was impressed to say the least and I would definitely go see them again.

Even though I’ve seen Hot Water Music more times than most of our local bands due to their constant touring, I was actually pretty hyped about seeing them. I expected there so be a sizeable amount of Hot Water Music fans, but there just weren’t a lot. They were here and there, but Thrice’s fans sort of took the place over. I stopped paying close attention to HWM a few shows ago, but I got re-hooked this time. I’m sure a lot of it had to do with the size of the venue. The walls contained the sound much better and the raspy vocals were much more powerful. It sounded awesome. I love the unique sound of the lead singers voice, it’s truly one of their best traits that set them aside from everyone else. They played “A Flight and a Crash” among others in a seemingly short set. If you haven’t seen these guys live yet, get on it!

Next up: Thrice. They has never rocked so hard in all the times I’ve seen them. Every time is a step above the last. These guys have captured the hearts of kids in southern California and are slowly stretching their fan-base out across the nation. I don’t know when these guys are going to finally out do themselves. Their performance was outstanding. The energy from both the band and the crowd was out of control. The amount of singing along was unbelievable and there were so many fists in the air. I’ve never seen a crowd so intense. There was one huge pit that kept bystanders on their toes.

Midway through the set they played “Pheonix Ignition” which is one of the 2 songs I wanted to hear. I needed no more because that is my ultimate Thrice favorite. I was stunned to hear the song because I just didn’t think it was a song they would play. I guess I thought wrong. They played a mix of both albums and played for a reasonable amount of time. After the band played their last song and exited the stage, the crowd chanted “One More Song”, “Thrice” and “T&C”. So of course they came back for one last song to please the fans.

I’m amazed at how far Thrice has come in the past year and a half. Not too long ago they were at the bottom of the bill at average shows, but fast as word of mouth and touring can spread the word, these guys have moved themselves up to headlining their own sold out shows. I’ll be damned if they don’t make it big in the next 2 years or so.

Well if that's your way of thinking, then that 13 year old is better suited to be talking on this site then you are, fucking morons.

    to the guy below...

I never stated that I had never heard HWM before. I admit I do not know much about them, but I did listen very closely and gave them a chance in my book.

I never once said anything like Thrice are so good HWM can't be as good, I gave them a chance and yes they weren't as good in my opinion.

Lastly, Thrice do have soe amazing guitar riffs (check out the song "to what end") and have great stage presence (every time I have seen them), but I nor anyone else do not cae if you do not like them. It means shit to me and the band, they could care less if you don't like them. I'm sure HWM are the same about me.

Just beccause I like pop punk and other "shit" like that does not make me a fag, loser, emokid, trendy, poseur, or anything else you people tend to call me. Please, grow up.

when i went to the HWM/Thrice show in toronto, there were a couple of kids behind me talking about how great Thrice was and how they had never heard HWM before but they werent even going to stay and check them out because they couldn't POSSIBLY be as good as thrice. i wanted to punch those kids in the head. i want to punch this emo kid in the head as well.

for future reference: wanky guitar solos and middle-of-the-road songwriting do not make a good band. i couldn't count how many 16 year old guitar geeks were cumming all over the place when they saw the dude from thrice's effects pedals....like whooooaa!! that's too crazy!

Now for the last time, me not liking HWM does not make me ignorant, it makes it my opinion. Not knowing the names or owning albums of HWM does not make me ignorant, it is my decision not to shell out money for it. People, learn what an opinion is, and try to understand if we all had the same beliefs, we would never get anywhere in life and their would never be any change whatsoever. stop living underneath a rock and try to realize that people tend to disagree, so just shut up and deal with it

Reading the responses to the reviews to these shows has only proven to me one thing:

The underground/punk/hardcore/etc scene is no better than any other group of people: jocks, preppy; or heck, even politicians. You have such a pathetic group of codes of conduct its truly sad that you don't see how contradictory it is to what you THINK it is.

ITS FUCKING MUSIC. IF ITS GOOD, WHO CARES WHO ELSE LISTENS TO IT? You seem to.

    There is no punk scene.
    There is no hardcore scene.
    There is no emo scene.
There is your idiot scene and there is a good music scene. I'd like say I belong to the second.

Think for yourselves and outside your apathetic little boxes for two seconds. And no, "thinking for yourself" doesn't mean liking something for aesthetic reasons or because the kid at school who wears the wrong labeled tshirt doesn't.

Hot Water Music is a really good band.
Coheed and Cambria is a really good band.
Thrice is a really good band.

    Settled.
